  2. That looks very cool! 3 questions: which amp, which deck and which beer?

  5. Yeah, I went through a Benny Carter thing a while back and I remember wishing there was a Mosaic of the early stuff. I have some euro-compilations of Benny Carter albums, one with eight and one with 4 albums. Also some Chronologicals for the early period. There is also a 1946 Benny Carter Quintet recording on disc 9 of the Keynote Collection. It's hard to find a bad album. Carter is really a man of many parts, a multi-instrumentalist, composer and arranger too. I'm fond of the Basie album, The Legend - From the Pen of Benny Carter.
  6. This Friday night, Jackie Venson at Wilndmills in the Colony.
  7. Agreed. They did Louie, Louie around the same time the Kingsmen did, and had the stronger version (and the regional Pacific Northwest hit, IIRC), largely due to Lindsay.
  8. If their very earliest records are any indication, Mark Lindsaey had put in enough time to at least get a good centered tone, unlike Mike Love who played like ...Mike Love.

lots I like but I’m most fond of the Verve music collected on the Urbane Sessions, Cosmopolite, and 3 4 5 Small Group CDs. also have long enjoyed the Bluebird CD All Of Me with some earlier music
  10. I guess the "F" somehow fell off prior to print.
  11. that's the one I am most familiar with.

    Benny Carter

I got to hear Benny Carter in the late 1980s and he put on a great set. He is well represented in my collection.
  13. I assumed the F got dropped from Fractals, and that seems to be correct. The actual album is Saxophone Colossus. https://www.isrbx.me/3138221225-sonny-rollins-fractals-of-blue-remastered-2025-hi-res.html
  14. No idea what "ractals of blue" are supposed to be. Really odd looking stuff.
  15. Jazz in der Kammer Nr. 71 Brötzmann, Van Hove, Bennink
  16. What a poorly advertised Jazz Festival. I've never heard of this venue and I get a weekly E-mail of the area's Jazz shows from Isabelle d'Entremont and she's never mentioned this venue nor this Jazz festival. Very strange to have this sneak up like this. BTW - I see that Sullivan Fortner is playing there Sunday and I thought about going but $104 is a bit much, especially since I'm dropping a few bucks Saturday night for "date night".
  17. Yesterday
