  1. Way to go jazzbo.
  2. The settings made by the guy cutting the lp laquers makes all the difference, no matter the source.
  3. Why blame the label? Threadgill has said he thinks 40 minutes is the perfect length for a musical program. I agree with this in most instances.
  4. Always outline the meatloaf (not the musician) with green magic markers. Now go play the damn records. Forget all the voodoo.
  5. I agree with MC. Sad fact these days.
  6. While working on the Uptown Mingus project, I spoke with him on the phone a couple times and he was really helpful identifying players involved - I played music (over the phone) and he gave a running commentary. I won't forget that.
  7. They are relatively "unsophisticated" recordings but much of that is 'cause many are "artist produced" sessions sent to the label. edit to say: musicians usually think of hearing the parts and not how it sounds to listeners. These can be different things.
  8. No reason not to use Teo's lp masters for cd reissue.
  9. Seems he passed Sunday night. Very nice man.
  10. Thanks again. Chris's blog is a treasure. Ignore it at your intellectual peril.
  11. I thought the season ended a couple of months ago.
  12. I must say I've known Muhal since 1966 and my respect has only grown. He is a special person.
  13. Last time I saw Duke was in 1972. I think I would have noticed an earring over the few days spent around him then.

    Moondog

Better you should try some Ornette.
  15. If I have the bucks I'll spend it elsewhere.
  16. An outside chance of maybe.
  17. Whatever, they are great pics.

    Moondog

Moondog is an interesting cultural footnote. I will live with the Prestige sessions in my collection.
  19. Weren't these up over a year ago?
  20. Duke was an amazing and elusive human. I don't blame him.
  21. Not yet - still gathering materials for the packages.
