  2. Bob Sunenblick (label owner) an MD based in Montreal is a dedicated "collector type". He has a unique knack for finding stuff, but not enough time to really run a label and sometimes an "unclear" view of ultimate value. This is a common failing of fans starting out as collectors of "rare" recordings. About 10 years ago, when he was based in the NY/NJ area and I was an Uptown distributor, he called me to say he was moving to Canada, wanted to keep the label in the US and didn't know what to do. I said I could handle his inventory and shipping so he could keep a US address. Over the years I have become a "trusted advisor" and help with the production of projects. I have had some hand in the last 17 releases. This varies from selecting material/takes, listening to masterings, suggesting changes, saying "no" to some projects, pushing others. Bob pays my real expenses and my only financial return is what I manage to sell myself. I undoubtedly lose in this deal, but I love having a chance to shape these projects. I hope this helps.
  3. Suddenly he's Mr. Zoologist. ← IIRC, an old girlfriend drove a Toyota Cervidaen! It was a cool car. Nice nipples too.
  4. I sold these in 1991 for over a thousand each - to a friggin' dealer.
  5. Geez, I thought this might be about a long awaited reissue of the Federal Smokey Smothers sides.
  6. Maybe acquiring.
  7. You "animal" fans are all alike.
  8. I was searching for GERALD WILSON.
  9. I think Concord is busy figuring out how to dub in vocals by Tony Bennett, Norah, etc. When that shit is straightened out, we will have 'em.
  10. Mike, would you have thought of George?
  11. Hey Moose - listen to the Diz/Bird - want to see those bovine (right species?) nipples stand erect.
  12. This error contains no humor. I made a leader search for Gerald Wilson on my Bruyninckx program and the result was ZIP! I could not believe he/they ignored GW so the closest I could come was Garland Wilson, so I searched for that - I thought I would scroll down and find Gerald. Nothing of the kind - seems like they think Garland Wilson made all of Gerald's records.
  13. Wasn't that the odd show where Trane played all bossa novas?
  14. Damn! I wondered what happen to that disc. Send it back asap.
  15. Chuck, Tried searching to find out if the option to purchase from you is listed anywhere on the site and I can't find the info. That being said, can I purchase directly from you, via PayPal? Thanks, Marla ← Yes, nessarecords@earthlink.net for PayPal. $15 pp in the US.
  16. Back during their "Free America" sale, after about a month waiting, one of their phone people told me "in stock" meant they could order it.
  17. Yeah, but I don't think he was one of the original beepsters like "Hen".
  18. I'm with you.
  19. Just to make sure, this is the sax guy who plays really fast, right?
  20. FWIW "You and Lee" is one of the titles available for download on the Verve site.
  21. Good to see I made a couple of folks happy.
  22. The River was a ballet written circa 1970. There is a 40+ minute band recording on one of the "Private Collection" discs. In the notes Stanley Dance writes "First, he recorded the main themes as piano solos for the guidance of choreographer Alvin Ailey".
  23. I wrote to Tom Hull after that article ran and asked why Smalls hadn't been included. From what he said, it was below the minimum number of releases in the catalog. The 'smallest' label listed had 12 according to him. We have 9 (at least til September). I was a little disappointed not to see it listed, and now that you mentioned it, the other labels that were omitted as well. Luke ← Quantity always wins over quality. How would Dial have fared in 1950?
  24. I can be there in a couple of weeks. What brand of Scotch?
