  1. If those "ticks" really exist, they must be dubbed from the pressing I sold to a Japanese dealer for $1000.
  2. Under the current policies of the companies involved, you will not see a set mixing EMI masters (PJ) and Universal (Mercury). The best outcome would be a Mercury set.
  3. This may be delayed while I work on the 6 minute version for one of our members.
  4. Jack, it has been redone twice since then. All is finished now and going to the designer on Monday. The last piece of the puzzle was the newspaper ad for the concert. Looks like Coleman Hawkins and Slam Stewart were "no shows" for the gig. Liner notes by Ira Gitler, a note about getting the discs by Bob and a technical note from mastering engineer Ted Kendall.
  5. If you had read more than the last few posts you would have understood this is not a thread about 6 minutes.
  6. The others are sideman recordings from other Musicraft records.
  7. You should never respond to a thread without READING it.
  8. All of the 20 tracks from the Musicraft cd are included in the recent Savoy set. The Guild label was purchased by Musicraft so you have to count them as well.
  9. Are you sure this is a Metronome date? I thought they started in 1940.
  10. My current fave is by Guy Lafitte, Wild Bill Davis and Alvin Queen.
  11. Too late. No more delays, PLEASE.
  12. Go ahead and get the Sackville - fine recording. You will be attracted to the side with Holland but spend some time with the other side. Rewards are wonderful things.
  13. DUH! I will make the correction and make you look like a friggin' idiot.
  14. It is interesting to compare these dates to the Kenny Dorham sessions on Afro-Cuban.
  15. Great question. I want to direct you to a chapter/intro to a wonderful book assembled by Frank Driggs and Harris Lewine called Black Beauty White Heat. This (mostly) photo book has an early entry about collectors/fans meeting Al Lion and Frank Wolff that is worth the price you have to pay. Find the book somewhere.
  16. Some folks drive in a perpetual fog.
  17. Change of era around the late '60s and '70s. Club owners and indie label owners inspired by the "post war boom" were retiring and selling out. Think about the "street" implications of this shift. That being said, I think the newer "indies' and the cashing in by the majors more than made up for the difference. Just other people selling the records and making the money. I may elaborate later.
  18. Two discs containing 43 tracks.
  19. My name is Charles Nessa and I am a regular customer at Dusty Groove.
  20. I know this set has taken hits for sound in other threads but I think it is a "more than reasonable" representation of the recordings. I've had a few of them on 78 and the rest on lps since the late '50s. My big complaint is Keepnews' deviation from chronology so he can lead off the set with "highlights". What a bozo. Some of the later cuts are "fluff" but that is Diz with wonders and warts. The earlier stuff is essential as is the best of the live material.
  21. Those titles are no longer on the BMG site. The only difference I've seen is "newly added" titles show up on the BMG page a day or two earlier.
  22. One of my favorite Hodges records. I still have the vinyl.
  23. They recorded for DIW 1985-1990.
