  1. Geez Mark, how can you think this early. I only got about 4 hours sleep. T'was a fantastic time and I will post more later.
  2. I'd have been really impressed if the guy on the right was Sr. Mance.
  3. Great! I'll be the handsome one and Jim will be the 6 ft blond, right?
  4. I might have been lucky - or not. When the whole electric Miles/fusion era was happening I was too deeply involved in other musical matters and missed that whole deal. After the fact, it never interested me and it seemed so "not rock/not jazz" so I've generally ignored it. The same thing happened with the jazz neo-cons. Heard early Wyntnon, etc, thought "nuthin' happnin'" so I moved on. I guess some consider these "blind spots", but I consider it "movin' on".
  5. Uncle Skid and I are coming to the 4:00 show tomorrow. We'll be checking out the JRM before the show. Any interested parties are welcome to join us.
  6. If you haven't opened and loved Worktime, you're not worthy. Forget it.
  7. It sucks pond scum. OK? Is that clear enough?
  8. This set (and Randy himself) is a monster. I consider my experiences working with him a rare pleasure. Damn! Thanks for reminding me.
  9. Back in the '70s (yeah, dark ages) when Bill Dixon was off staff at the U of W in Madison, at an early ensemble "tryout" a bass player was flailing away at his instrument. Dixon stopped him and requested a scale. The guy went "huh" and Bill repeated the request. The guy said "I don't need to do that shit - I played with Cecil Taylor!" (he held the post before Dixon). Professor D slowly walked away and said "No...... you played at the same time as Cecil Taylor".
  10. VERY interesting package. just be warned, these are cdrs.
  11. Me too.
  12. I thought he was a utility guy for the White Sox. B-)
  13. This seems to be a fairly thorough collection (only a few alternates missing). I wonder if this is the first 3 discs from the History box.
  14. I said "paycheck band". I mean the Hutch/Land combo could get club work and record dates more easily than they could individually or by following other paths. Latter day MJQ and AEC could be labeled the same way - some money in the bank.
  15. Won't you guys ever learn - pen and paper are "so yesterday". Blogs baby, blogs. Best wishes and congrats! How many rhyme?
  16. Can we end this now? I think we have the idea.
  17. Please 'splain what the timeframe or some critic's opinion has to do with Jack's "jazz credentials". I see it as their problem, not his. AND my story was not that recent.
  18. Really don't think that had anything to do with his "jazz credentials". Lester Bowie told me about some sort of "trumpet summit" he played in Boston. Jack walked on stage (looking like 300 lbs) and said something like "Sorry I'm so G-D fat, but I've been fucking for years and finally got pregnant".
  19. I got your "warm welcome" right here.
  20. I always thought the Hutch/Land dates were the guys cruising beneath their real talents. Sorry, they just don't do much for me. Seemed like a "paycheck band".
  21. You have the set AND a cdr of one of the included lps? !!!!!! Noise in the Attic is a mofo.
  22. Been ready for this for years!
  23. 3 pieces popped in my head but none were listed. Geez!
