  1. Sorry Ghost, it is a 4 disc set.
  2. Who is Virgel Pumphrey (sp)?
  3. First, brush up on your typing skills (so we do not misunderstand your posts) and then listen to someone like Albert Ayler, Roscoe Mitchell or Evan Parker. I mention these folks so you can see how far the "technique bar" has been lifted.
  4. I deleted my post. Sorry if I offended any.
  5. Met a tenor player once who could beat the shit out of any drummer or trombonist he met. Talk about talent!
  6. Hal added tenor late in his (second) life. When drummer Hal attended university he discovered they didn't give certificates/diplomas for percussion so he switched to trumpet. He loved Trane's Interstellar Space and was really impressed when I introduced him to Evan Parker (on record).
  7. It is very dangerous to get dogmatic about "legit" techniques - circumstances can easily alter "values'.
  8. That must have taken some time.
  9. This situation has existed for at least half a century, so we can't blame digital. Isolation and dead rooms are not necessarily the same thing. "Natural sound" can be many different things to different listeners in different listening situations and I don't believe it is always the best sound for a given musical presentation.
  10. Chiseling tablets again?
  11. My fault. Sorry.
  12. Don't know about that one.
  13. Yup, Tesser can be really good when he works at it. Thanks, I had not read that.
  14. Isn't this another "foreigner" trying to pass as a jazz fan? Bah!
  15. I got your "jazz organ discography" right here!
  16. Pucker up Jazzbo.
  17. No mention of Troy Robinson or Virgil Pumphrey. A big prize (smack on the cheek) for anyone knowing Virgil's second name. Some of you have cds with him.
  18. Ira Sullivan on Flying Fish and John Eardley "Hey There" with JR Monterose, George Syran, Teddy Kotick and Nick Stabulas.
  19. Just use the "program" function on your turntable.
  20. The RCA set was a "remake/expansion" of a 1957 Dot lp titled The Lion Roars.
  21. Jimmy Cheatham borrowed my lps and "forgot" to return 'em.
  22. Right click on the image of the white rectangle with the * (or the yellow rectangle with a circle?). B-) I thought I had the eye problem! B-)
  23. b3-er's been weird since he screwed up on Baby Face. We better be careful.
