  1. That's about right... :) I dread what they are going to do for the 75th...
  2. So the festival is next weekend. I made a mistake getting a 3-day pass as the lineup is really terrible (in my opinion). I'll probably just go on Saturday. For those who are interested they've put the schedule grid up. https://newportjazz.org/2024-schedule I know George Wein handpicked Christian McBride to program it and I generally really like him... but this festival lineup is BLEH....
  3. Another question... Are these Jubilee sessions precursors to the JATP sets as the Storyville release says? How similar? How different?
  4. Okay, so this is interesting. Do we have any idea of the order and timing of when these sets are going to come out? Six months, two years??
  5. Okay ... can you guys dumb it down for me? We are talking about 4-5 boxed sets of material from Vanguard (a label?) and not the Village Vanguard and the V-Discs like the Ellington Treasury sets from Storyville. These would be recordings from the 40s and 50s. Is that right?
  6. Okay good to know that I'm not alone on this island. Thanks.
  7. I've finally gotten around to listening to this set and I really like it. It's presented in a way that's similar to those Black Saint/Soul Note boxes that came out a decade or so ago. It was a fantastic price with many (seemingly) unreleased takes. .
  8. I am still waiting for mine to ship. Is there any domestic folks (US) who have not gotten theirs yet?
  9. I guess they're behind. My order says it's still processing.
  10. So let me see if I basically get the summary of this thread... We're kind of screwed and there is no simple/good answer. Is that right?
  11. https://something-else.bandcamp.com/album/soul-jazz?from=discover_page Highly recommended. I got it. Played it once and then had to play it again.
  12. Thanks. I didn't know this but one thing I did do was distribute it to about half a dozen different libraries (like a few hundred CDs to each). Hopefully, they won't end up getting sold.
  13. I'm in my late 50s and found a solution that worked for me a few years ago. When my ex-wife wanted a divorce (and I conceded), I moved out instead of fighting about who was going to keep the house. I decided at that time to split my collection in half. Mosaics and artists I loved, I would keep the physical Cds. The rest went to numerous public libraries around me (Boston). I know no one really thinks about libraries and they are going out of existence but I felt... a) As long as public libraries exist, there will be people who use them and b) If I'm lucky.. long after I'm gone., some teenager will run across my CDs and get the jazz bug. Obviously, few of us rarely know when we are going to die, but I will probably tell my daughter to do the same when I'm gone.
  14. I'm so sorry for both of you.
  15. And of course, after I ask the question... he comes out with an excellent new record... https://intaktrec.bandcamp.com/album/francesca

    What's wrong with her?
  17. Yes, but my biggest question is what, if any, unreleased material is around? If there was none, I'm assuming it would only result in 4-5 CDs? Unrelated... I'm still waiting for my live, unreleased Betty Carter set...
  18. Okay, I'm chiming in on this years after the fact. I was listening to some of his Village Vanguard sets on Bandcamp and searched here to find this thread. I read through some of the posts to get the gist of what was said. I know the entire relationship between the music and the human beings who make it, is complicated. I also know the only people who know what actually transpires in a sexual relationship are those people in it. I also know that race, sexuality, access, age, power, and all that stuff are woven into Americana in dozens of ways too hard to decode or make universal statements about. I also agree that #MeToo shifted the national conversation in ways that were both overdue, helpful, and sometimes, extreme and unfair. That all being said.. I wasn't big into Coleman before and am torn as to whether or not to purchase those VV sets now that I know.
  19. Does anyone have this? Verdict? I think I'm going to grab a copy but I wanted some informed opinions. https://petererskine.com/featured-album/3-nights-in-la/
  20. So what did you think? I saw Kris Davis live for the first time a few weeks ago and was very impressed.
  21. This is going to sound like a stupid and morbid question but is there a succession plan at Mosaic? Like who's taking over?
  22. You and me both. I actually really liked the series because it was a much more affordable way to learn about a new artist
  23. I read the liner notes when the 8cd came out and totally don't remember the Blue Note 3cd release. I swear I hate getting old... Have you seen the latest with this group? For their 20th anniversary they are releasing.... wait for it... a 3LP Vinyl only release......
  24. Yes, that was what I was thinking of but I'm confused because I'm not sure what 3CD set the original poster is referring to other than the Fresh Sound release. Does that make sense? Thanks.
