  1. Thanks. I didn't know this but one thing I did do was distribute it to about half a dozen different libraries (like a few hundred CDs to each). Hopefully, they won't end up getting sold.
  2. I'm in my late 50s and found a solution that worked for me a few years ago. When my ex-wife wanted a divorce (and I conceded), I moved out instead of fighting about who was going to keep the house. I decided at that time to split my collection in half. Mosaics and artists I loved, I would keep the physical Cds. The rest went to numerous public libraries around me (Boston). I know no one really thinks about libraries and they are going out of existence but I felt... a) As long as public libraries exist, there will be people who use them and b) If I'm lucky.. long after I'm gone., some teenager will run across my CDs and get the jazz bug. Obviously, few of us rarely know when we are going to die, but I will probably tell my daughter to do the same when I'm gone.
  3. I'm so sorry for both of you.
  4. And of course, after I ask the question... he comes out with an excellent new record... https://intaktrec.bandcamp.com/album/francesca

    Laufey

    What's wrong with her?
  6. Yes, but my biggest question is what, if any, unreleased material is around? If there was none, I'm assuming it would only result in 4-5 CDs? Unrelated... I'm still waiting for my live, unreleased Betty Carter set...
  7. Okay, I'm chiming in on this years after the fact. I was listening to some of his Village Vanguard sets on Bandcamp and searched here to find this thread. I read through some of the posts to get the gist of what was said. I know the entire relationship between the music and the human beings who make it, is complicated. I also know the only people who know what actually transpires in a sexual relationship are those people in it. I also know that race, sexuality, access, age, power, and all that stuff are woven into Americana in dozens of ways too hard to decode or make universal statements about. I also agree that #MeToo shifted the national conversation in ways that were both overdue, helpful, and sometimes, extreme and unfair. That all being said.. I wasn't big into Coleman before and am torn as to whether or not to purchase those VV sets now that I know.
  8. Does anyone have this? Verdict? I think I'm going to grab a copy but I wanted some informed opinions. https://petererskine.com/featured-album/3-nights-in-la/
  9. So what did you think? I saw Kris Davis live for the first time a few weeks ago and was very impressed.
  10. This is going to sound like a stupid and morbid question but is there a succession plan at Mosaic? Like who's taking over?
  11. You and me both. I actually really liked the series because it was a much more affordable way to learn about a new artist
  12. I read the liner notes when the 8cd came out and totally don't remember the Blue Note 3cd release. I swear I hate getting old... Have you seen the latest with this group? For their 20th anniversary they are releasing.... wait for it... a 3LP Vinyl only release......
  13. Yes, that was what I was thinking of but I'm confused because I'm not sure what 3CD set the original poster is referring to other than the Fresh Sound release. Does that make sense? Thanks.
  14. I have both sets as well but I remember reading somewhere (maybe the liner notes of the 8cd release?) that the 3cd set was not recorded at the Lighthouse but I think another club called the And/Or (or something like that). Am I wrong about this?
  15. Pre-ordered... with a melancholy feeling.
  16. Has the entire set been released on CD? I know I have three of them (Medina, The Kicker, and Happenings) but I don't remember all of them being released on cd.
  17. Just got the email. Michael's notes made me cry. It's very likely I will get this set but I've got a technical question for you guys. How does this differ from the long out-of-print Select set? https://www.mosaicrecords.com/product/bobby-hutcherson-limited-edition-set/
  18. There's an Emily Remler live bootleg set from the Four Queens (I think) that I WOULD LOVE someone to resurrect and clean up. I can't believe there hasn't been one reissue or, "find" of her live material. I suspect she would do well commercially.
  19. I'm listening to it now. I found the section where he tells the audience to be quiet because he's about to play some solos, kind of funny.
  20. Not sure if anyone saw this bio but interesting... https://www.nytimes.com/2024/03/05/arts/music/kahil-elzabar-ethnic-heritage-ensemble-open-me.html?smid=nytcore-ios-share&referringSource=articleShare
  21. Which one is that?
  22. Thank you for validating my stubbornness staying away from this vinyl biz...
  23. I just wish that more of that moment was in the US and I agree 100% with you..... Whenever I saw them (had to be in the early 90s) it was fantastic. If I can remember a show I saw 30+ years ago... then it was either fantastic or a complete sh**show.
  24. I saw them live decades ago and was blown away. It felt very spiritual. I had kind of forgotten about them/him for a long time until recently. I've been listening a lot lately and can't understand why he doesn't get much more attention and praise. They are planning a 50th anniversary tour and I'm hoping they end up stopping here in Boston. Why don't they get the same love Charles Lloyd does, with his "spiritual jazz?" https://downbeat.com/news/detail/kahil-elzabar-celebrating-the-ethnic-heritage-ensemble-at-50
  25. https://spiritgroove.bandcamp.com/album/kahil-elzabars-spirit-groove-ft-david-murray https://ethnicheritageensemble.bandcamp.com/album/be-known-ancient-future-music I've been needing some spirituality in my heathen, atheist self... This is as close as I can get... The Chris Potter is really good...
