  1. Speaking of Braxton... Does anyone have a copy of Tristano box set? If yes, what do you think?
  2. That's part of my confusion. They could slice it up and frame it in whichever way Mosaic wanted. Even though a lot of them are still in print so are the Joe Hendersons, Freddie Hubbard and Sonny Clarks. Horace's presence seems to kinda have disappeared a bit from public discussion. I just wish he'd get more recognition today. Maybe it's just me.
  3. What's wrong with his live recordings? I can't remember which one Filthy McNasty is on but I love that record.
  4. I was driving home listening to WRTI and Senor Blues came on. It got me thinking. Given the significant number of recordings he made, why has Mosaic never put out a Horace Silver box set? They must have a bunch of unreleased stuff in the vaults. I would guess there's some unreleased live material as I think he only had a few live sets produced... Especially given how long he recorded for them, they could organize it in several ways or eras. Does anyone know why there hasn't been one?
  5. Just wanted to say I've been missing her. I was so excited when High Note put out a couple of unreleased live performances from her. I wish there were more.
  6. Does anyone have any updates on him? I thought he was having some health issues a ways back.
  7. I don't know who this is. Does anyone have some background info? https://jackwalrath.bandcamp.com/album/live-at-smalls?from=discover_page
  8. Don't know if I'm interested yet but I thought I'd let folks know... https://newbraxtonhouse.bandcamp.com/album/10-comp-lorraine-2022-2
  9. Not going this weekend but just bought my ticket to see The Cookers at Scullers in May. Not sure how many more times we'll get to see them but I'm looking forward to it.
  10. Still waiting/rooting for my 5CD set of live unreleased Betty Carter recordings... 🙁
  11. I don't collect vinyl but ended up with WAY too many Satchmo CDs, only to realize (again) - that I'm not a fan... I was there too. I would remember anyone, who knows what your profile pic means. Same boat. Especially when Laurie started her Widow's Taste label.
  12. Good lawd... if a psychologist ever evaluated our threads.... We'd be in trouble....😕
  13. I've been going there almost as long as you have. I agree with you that the club itself is still the same. Yea, the hotel is a little better. (Still probably WAY overpriced though....) I'm just very glad it's back. Although Scullers has been consistently around with great artists, I liked the old club before the moved and remodeled it. Other than being tight, I still way prefer the Regattabar.
  14. Who the heck organized RSD anyway? Seems very odd but clearly profitable. I find the whole idea of vinyl only in 2024 truly bizarre. I mean I get offering it but vinyl ONLY? Do you want to sell the music or not?
  15. I can't find any ordering info about the Nat Cole set.
  16. George Coleman Quartet at the Regattabar in Cambridge last night. Awesome. I can't figure out which octogenarian is more impressive, Coleman, Billy Harper, or Charles McPherson... Lord just let me get to 80 well enough to do anything competently...
  17. https://dlmediamusic.com/artists/charles-mcpherson-reverence/ This is now on my to-buy list. I'm curious what the other "live" releases planned are. I can't find anything on their Bandcamp website yet. Anybody else in? And have you got any other info?
  18. I'm going this weekend to see him at the Regattabar in Cambridge MA. I'm hoping he's in as good as health as possible.
  19. I hate that series, honestly. I got out of vinyl when I was a kid. I have ZERO desire to go back. I don't like any vinyl only release programs, unless the music stinks and then I don't feel bad. 🤣
  20. Almost anything by Muriel Grossman which I discovered a few years ago... Amazing. Anytime I need spirituality or grounding that's where I go. But/And it's really nice to have such a large library to "find" artists I haven't listened to in years. (At the moment I'm getting into Bill Frissell.)
  21. On a whim, I went to see Bill Frissell's Trio in Cambridge last night. Gregory Tardy (on sax, flute and I think bass clarinet) and Rudy Royston on drums. I had low expectations as I'm generally not a Frissell fan but the band blew me away. Tardy in particular was incredible. That band understands space and not playing over each other but with one another. It was really great.
  22. Thanks. I'm hoping these RSD releases are going to start appearing with CD versions on other sties soon.
