I came across this in my Instagram feed and wanted to run it by this group. Are the publishers being correct that this material hasn't been released previously in its entirety??? Or do I likely own it 3 times already in 3 different "never before released" sessions? https://thelostrecordings.store/en/products/miles-davis-quintet-the-complete-live-in-paris-vol-i-ii-double-uhqcd

Losing Weight - Ozempic - Diet/Exercise?
tranemonk replied to Dan Gould's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
After two of my doctors kept warning me about prediabetes, I reluctantly (very, very reluctantly) tried Zepbound. My endocrinologist thought that was the one that would work well with the least side effects. After about three or four months, I'm down from about 240 to 220 lbs. I'm taking a very skeptical approach to these injections for the long-term. I essentially am going to take it for a while (a year-ish) and see what happens. -
Hopefully, I've got a few years left at least, but I'm wondering if anyone has a plan to donate their collection to a university music department, public radio jazz station, or something like that. I've got 5000 records (downsized to probably 1000-1500 CDs, with the rest digital). I'd like to have a clean, useful way to transfer them all to a place that might use and keep them. When I got divorced, it was a fire sale... I kept all the Mosaic sets and CDs of my favorite artists, but the physical collection of CDs went from 4000, probably down to 1500. Divorce will do that to ya....

Classic V-Disc Small Group Jazz #279 – 11 CDs
tranemonk replied to Hardbopjazz's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Dumb question... but am I remembering correctly that there was supposed to be a second set of V-Disc big band stuff? If I'm right, does anyone have any details on size or release date? -
Charles Mingus, Kenny Dorham, Freddie Hubbard for RSD 2025
tranemonk replied to ghost of miles's topic in New Releases
I did and I do not recall any major sound issues with the Dorham. I would have to go back a second time and hear it again. -
That's kinda my point.

Thanks Ken... I'm glad I'm not the only one who reads it that way. I know they have to put non-jazz "big names" out there... but there are a lot of people they could have gotten that I think would have drawn a good crowd. Pat Metheny hasn't been there in years. How about Dave Holland, Benny Green, Kurt Elling, Monty Alexander, Joshua Redman, Helen Sung, Maria Schneider, Monty Alexander, Kenny Barron, etc... ?

https://newportjazz.org/lineup This is one of these moments in life, where I feel really old... since most of these artists I don't know and don't care about. I feel depressed that this is what this great festival has become.... Terrible lineup IMHO. It basically has four or five bands I'd actually pay to see.

Christopher Hollyday doesn't even ring a bell. I tend to think several of the "young lions" from the 90s have hung around and are successful. Benny Green, Carl Allen, Joshua Redman, and Branford Marsalis all come to mind. Who else are you thinking of who was hyped and then disappeared?

Art Pepper - An Afternoon In Norway: The Kongsberg Concert
tranemonk replied to mjzee's topic in New Releases
Does anyone know if Laurie Pepper is done putting out "Unreleased Art" volumes? I have all of them and they are fantastic. I know she's been putting out the chapters of the book, but the music is fantastic. -
At the end of the Apple+ TV show Severance, Season 2, during the credits they played Work Song (even if it was sung by Bobby Darin). They played several other jazz tunes in the show.

Truly bizarre reeking of desperation. I don't even know what else to say.

Is it me, or is this release deeply confusing? Is it a digital-only analogy that's going to be released eventually on single CDs? Also, how does this overlap with the Mosaic Select? I've tried reading through the thread and I'm still confused.

Kenny Burrell - On View At The Five Spot Cafe (Complete?)
tranemonk replied to Kevin Bresnahan's topic in Re-issues
I'm in on this. Does anyone have any ETA on the cd version, that's not a "Tone-Poet" rip-off price? -
It's also up on Bandcamp, if no one already posted that. https://charlesmingusmusic.bandcamp.com/album/in-argentina-the-buenos-aires-concerts

Computer Gurus: New Browser?
tranemonk replied to GA Russell's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
It's not new but I constantly come back to and use Firefox. There's just so much customization and control for me. Brave is not new but I'd say that's my second choice. Even though I'm on a Mac I hate Safari. Opera is way too cluttered. -
Jazz legends extend to non-musicians like him... I have three jazz stations programmed into my phone, WRTI, WBGO and KCSM. All mean a ton to me. RIP Mr. Perkins.

Chick Corea's record collection auction
tranemonk replied to Hardbopjazz's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Yea I won't be bidding on any of this without a clear and substantive explanation about the backstory... Doesn't quite seem legit to me. -
She's fantastic. I will watch stuff she's in, just because of her. I even tried The White Lotus but only lasted like 10 minutes.

Interesting.. Did he identify himself as Black? Mixed-race children (especially of that era) often had the crappy choice of which side of their family to publicly identify with. There's a great movie in my Netflix queue called Passing, which kinda gets to that. I'm curious if he ever talked about it.

I was looking around on Bandcamp and found this group. I listened to their most recent record and was very impressed. I'm curious what you guys think. https://charlesowens.bandcamp.com/album/the-music-tells-us
