  1. I didn't mean anything in particular. I think it was in reference to earlier posts seemingly being lukewarm to all the new releases. I like it as who knows how many of those artists would be getting recorded otherwise. Hope that makes sense.
  2. Just got through listening to the digital release... Very good. I hope there's another set or two in the future. I will say I enjoyed the Les McCann set much more than I expected. Sound quality on both was excellent.
  3. Hey as mainstream as it is, I appreciate him trying. I just purchased the new Jim Rotondi with Strings. Sounded very good.
  4. No renovation. It looks and feels the exact same... Really crowded. Some of the same waitresses even. But I still love the acoustics and the sight lines.
  5. This past weekend went back to the Regattabar (Cambridge MA) and saw Immanuel Wilkins and his quartet. The place reopened a few months ago. I forgot how outstanding the acoustics were there. He was outstanding. Very spiritual and understated. Highly recommended.
  6. Thanks. I don't even play CDs anymore but I like having the physical media for the most important records. I've had more than one instance of losing music that only existed in digital form. Even the best hard drives get corrupted and crash.
  7. Okay, I was fixated this weekend on these games. I was convinced it was going to be Michigan-Washington-Fla. State- Texas. I was shocked that they put Bama in. I understand the logic. I hated watching the Fla State game (so boring). I do think the Mich-Ala game will be awesome BUT I do agree that Fla State should have gotten in. I don't know how you leave an undefeated team out completely...
  8. This sounds very interesting... A sample is up on Bandcamp. I assume Gearbox is a legit company? https://abdullahibrahim.bandcamp.com/album/3 Taken from Abdullah Ibrahim’s summer 2023 sold-out headline date at London’s Barbican Centre, the new album “3” follows suit and is spread across two performances – the first is recorded without an audience ahead of the concert straight to analogue on a 1” Scully tape machine, which had previously been used by Elvis at the famous Memphis-based Sun Studios. The second recording is taken from the evening’s performance itself with Ibrahim performing in a unique trio which includes Cleave Guyton (flute, piccolo, saxophone) who has performed alongside the likes of Aretha Franklin, Dizzy Gillespie, and Joe Henderson, as well as lauded bassist and cellist Noah Jackson, both of which are members of EKAYA and featured on Ibrahim’s Top 3 Billboard Jazz album “The Balance” credits releases January 26, 2024
  9. Are the liner notes... REALLY Good??? I'm leaning toward getting the digital, especially since each disc is only about 90 minutes or so. The digital is much cheaper given that we're talking about all three sets....
  10. Listened to the first disc last week. Loved it. Art didn't do a lot of talking..
  11. I heard it on Apple Music. Artwork Records. I enjoyed it except for the last two tracks. I don't like too much self-promotion of new "geniuses." https://www.amazon.com/Solo-Game-Sullivan-Fortner/dp/B0CJK4T6Z2 I agree 100%. I can't see him live for that reason. Even when I saw Simon Phillips (who had a massive drum kit) with Hiromi's trio, he wasn't as loud as Billy Hart. It's kinda ridiculous, especially in a small club.
  12. He's just come out with a double CD solo record called "Solo Game."
  13. I've got a ticket tonight to see Brad Mehldau trio here in Boston but I don't know if I'm going to go. I'm listening again to some of his stuff to decide.
  14. Thanks. If my memory serves me correctly (and it may not be due to old age...:) A long time ago, when Mosaic used to post the discography, they also had the run time for each song, I think. That's helpful though. Thanks. Good point and idea. I tend to try to listen to box sets over a few days and don't go back to them for quite a while. The only ones I remember listening to often are Elvin Jones, Tal Farlow, and the Jazz Crusaders. Thanks for the suggestion.
  15. This is going to sound like a stupid and shallow question but.... Does anyone have a rough idea of how many/what percentage of short tunes (e.g., under 4-5 minutes) make up this set? I have a hard time with tons of three-minute songs. I much prefer sets where the musicians stretch out. I know some of this is when the records were made. Due to technical issues, songs had to be short. I just have a hard time engaging with 5-7-10 CDs of anyone where most of what I'm hearing are short three-minute tunes. I know the set is not out yet and the Mosaic discography doesn't tell me. Are we looking at 70% of the music being short three to four-minute songs or more like 20%? I'm guessing most of the tunes on likely to be short. Thanks.
  16. I was listening to one cut on the radio and there was a lot of hissing... Obviously with live recordings - it's a hit or miss, sonically.... how's the sound compared to the Mosaic set?
  17. Does anyone have the prior 2 sets? I'm debating. How does it compare with the Mosaic set? I'm annoyed that most of the music is under 80 minutes and could have been put on one disc instead of two. I haven't gotten it as I think the Mosaic is enough but.... 😕
  18. All of Michel Petrucciani's solo work... and this one
  19. So I'll go back to my original question.. is Mosaic correct that this is the only session that's been released on CD before? I don't buy vinyl and I don't think I have any Byas... so I might have to thinks about this one.
  20. Am I correct in reading that only one of these sessions has ever appeared on CD??
  21. Thanks. Am I wrong that they seem to be rechurning out a lot of stuff recently?
  22. I apologize if this already came up somewhere but what's the deal with the Craft Recordings company? Is this a legit reissue company? My instincts tells me it's not. They've been churning out a lot of stuff lately.
