  1. Yea. NPR has an agreement with some of the artists which lets you download their sets.. Day 1 highlight.. Hiromi Solo... That girl was killing it... Tremendous physicality... Randy Weston was good (not great).. He gave a LOT of space to his sidemen which meant he didn't play that much IMHO... Another highlight... Al DiMeola in a duet with Gonzalo Rubacalba..... Apparently Al's World Sinfonia band had VISA problems with the State Department and couldn't make it. The 30 minutes I caught was excellent as he was playing acoustic guitar the entire time... Looking forward to the Mingus Big Band, Charles Lloyd, Anat Cohen and maybe Joshua Redman or Hiromi again.. 70% chance of rain though.....<_<
  2. Yes I will be going to see Wynton... That was obvious. George does still do the programming although he just made the festival a non-profit. I like the lineup personally....
  3. Who's going??? I'm going to be there... I'm really looking forward to the following... Michel Camilo, Mingus Big Band, Charles Lloyd, Randy Weston and Anat Cohen...:excited: Very, very good lineup this year... Weather looks okay too... http://www.newportjazzfest.net/
  4. Woo-Hoo... is it up for sale now? Got a link? I saw this and thought it didn't come out until next month??? thanks.
  5. Toshiko Akiyoshi Select Disc 1.. and probably 2.. Don't know why this one doesn't get more love on the board......
  6. Is it me?? When I go to the popmarket site I'm not seeing ANY Woody Shaw..
  7. Ditto on the Shearing..Just got it and in great shape! Thank you Kevin and good luck with the move.
  8. Good clip though... Makes me very interested...
  9. I'll skip this one... The whole Hip-O line is WAY overpriced.
  10. Very interesting... I ordered and received the Lunceford set today.. And YES before someone asks for the 1000th time.. Mosaic box sets (not Selects) are sent out in sequential order... I got # 1013... This from a set that just barely started shipping!!! By contrast I ordered the MJQ set a few weeks after it was announced and received #349... Seems like the Lunceford is very hot!!
  11. Yea I saw that... I found it Storyville's website.. that's great news... I also emailed Mona asking her if there's any chance of a reprint of Vol. 8 which is impossible to find a physical copy of... Any chance of that happening?
  12. Woo Hoo... I'll be there probably early next month...
  13. I have to say this does intrigue me... So for you Miles-philes... Other than the Plugged Nickel set... is this the only other "official" live set from this group?
  14. Ditto.. they work perfectly fine. Yeah, I'm a convert to those. Huge space savings. It's not quite as easy to find things on the shelves, but you can read the tray card labels by riffling the sleeves on the shelves. If the discs are alphabetized or otherwise pre-organized, it's not that difficult.
  15. Pm sent on the Shearing. Thanks.
  16. Already got my Sam Rivers... If I can squeeze it out next week I might get the Lunceford.
  17. Can you provide some pics?? We've definitely had this conversation before... I use the cd sleeves from JazzLoft,,, Works fine for me.
  18. No I don't have any insight... I just don't see any patterns what they are releasing.. For example.. how did they pick those 5 from all of David Murray's BS/SN recordings??? Neither do I. @tranemonk: is there any particular reason for your, uhm, line of reasoning? Any insights that we miss?
  19. That doesn't really explain much.... ???
  20. Thanks for tipping me onto this artist... I gave a listen and am definitely ordering the CD... How'd you find out about her???
  21. I noticed this a while back... Amazon has a got a ridiculous price on 5 OOP Waldron albums as MP3s. http://www.amazon.co...ldron%20Quintet The irony is that most of these songs are over 20 minutes each (since they are from live sets) and Amazon is selling them for $1 each (basically). Since I don't think that Black Saint Soul Note reissue plan may get to these and since Itunes charges more... I've grabbed all of these... I've listened to the Seagulls of Kristiansund and The Git-Go Live at the Vanguard... Both are excellent...Highly recommended. I tend to be pretty lukewarm about digital only stuff but this is great.
  22. Nice review... Thanks for the link... I've got this one and it's in my listening queue.... Thanks David.. wherever you are....~!
  23. I think after that is one about the Central Park Jogger case from NYC in 1989. It was an extremely controversial high-profile case involving the wrongful conviction of several young African-American teenagers accused of a brutal gang rape of Trisha Melli.
