I know it kinda sucks but I'm inclined to get for two reasons. A) I like Jim Hall and b) Their packaging is okay. I paid $40 for Maria Schneider's last release and it was worth it. I have to go back and listen to the individual CD I have to make a definitive decision. For some reason, Artist Share finds it necessary to sell the unreleased material at a clip of $25/cd, though.

My Apple story... When I was an undergrad in college (early-1980's) I remember going to the computer lab and working on this cool computer which had a interesting design. (This was way before Windows appeared.) I remember swapping 5 and 1/4" disks between drives to save the files. I liked Apple but didn't think much of it. Went to Windows 3.1 went it came out. I then learned how to tinker with both PC hardware and software. Flash forward 25 years later, I'm on a cross-country flight with a crappy Dell laptop (my university bought). The POS has like 15 bluescreens and doesn't last an hour on the plane. I come back and my (non-technical) wife says "Should I get an Ipod????" Hmmm... Okay, fine no big deal to me but I buy it for her on her birthday. One month later I get diagnosed as having thyroid cancer. (I'm now fine btw... no thyroid now, but no cancer.) Okay I say fuck it, I'm giving myself a big fat present and buy a MacBook Pro. I'm hooked now. I'm too old be a Apple fanboy and I have had issues with the friggin' Lion OS but I'm totally in the Apple world now. Got my Iphone 4 and am saving up for a loaded IMac. In essence what turned me back on to Apple is quite simple. Their products work 99% of the time. The 1% of the time they don't I can actually go my Apple store and talk to a PERSON (what a novel concept Microsoft and Dell!!!) and get it fixed. In addition to that, their products look cool! Being a cancer survivor who's not much younger than Jobs, I greatly appreciate what he (and others) have done and have tremendous sympathy for him and his family. I still think the "Think Different" marketing campaign was the greatest series of ads I've ever seen. RIP Steve.

I'm in the middle of Disc 2.. and it's great but I have two questions.. Isn't Ron Carter's bass very hard to hear??? And how could they not even FIND a damn place for the liner notes????
-
How can you put together such a great musical package and totally F*** up the design so there's no place to put the liner notes???:angry: You can shake it, you can break it, you can hang it on the wall.

Thank you ... that was very helpful. I managed to find a couple of the individual albums on Amazon. I liked what I heard so at that price I snagged it. Kinda hard to say no for 5-6 hours of music @ $35. A needle drop is a cd that uses vinyl for a source rather than the original master tapes. Usually happens when the tapes are lost or unavailable. Costs are lower and most production work is already done. The Felsted material is very good stuff. Straight ahead swingin' mainstream jazz. I have about 5 or 6 of the lps and I will get this to complete the set. -
I love Chick. I don't really like fusion but I caught RTF when they were in Boston a few weeks ago. Chick is really the only cat I would go see play fusion stuff. I don't worry about the Scientology stuff. To me it falls in the bag of stuff like when Miles used to beat Cicely Tyson... If you read Straight Life you'll find out that Art Pepper did some messed up things!... Obviously from what I understand Scientology is not domestic violence or other bad behaviors... but it's not my thing. I know some people have problems with it. In general I've tried to separate out the musician from their personal beliefs/practices/etc/ Otherwise there would be a number of musicians I'd never listen to... I've seen Chick probably half a dozen times and he never mentions it onstage. I suspect he's aware of the public reaction. IMHO the best Chick I have is the Five Trios Japanese boxed set that was available on his website a few years ago... Absolutely fabulous!!! This one is also great.... http://www.chickcorea.com/cart/products/Super_Trio_Corea_Gadd_McBride_br_Chick_Corea_Steve_Gadd_and_Christian_McBride_br_2006-40-26.html

What the hell is a needle drop anyway...??? And without hijacking my own thread... to get back to the music... I gather this is good stuff??? -
I know it's from our friends in Spain... but this looks intriguing... What thinks you experts???? http://www.systemrecords.co.uk/various-artists-complete-felsted-mainstream-collection-p-1062925.html I might have to snap this one up....

I'm also beginning to question the point of this thread...

I think we know most of the list. Fred Hersch, Andy Bey, Gary Burton, Dena DeRose, Billy Strayhorn, and I'm sure there are others I'm forgetting at the moment.
