  1. I was DEFINITELY one of the skeptics. Anybody know where Cindy went to???? She was truly fantastic! So now it's just Scott, Fred, and Michael? Yes.
  2. Nice piece!!! Makes me want to crash over there sometime...
  3. I'd have to agree with the Lee Morgan votes... but I'd have to add my fave... Michel Petrucciani...
  4. last night I purchased their Teddy Wilson gig at the Great American Music Hall from 1977.. Figured for $7 it was a good way to determine whether I might be interested in the Storyville box....  http://www.wolfgangsvault.com/teddy-wilson/concerts/great-american-music-hall-march-18-1977-1st-set.html After listening to it... I'll pass.... :beee:
  5. I'd vote for that....
  6. I'm still waiting for my Betty Carter Select (esp. the live stuff from her label).... I'd also take some unreleased Michel Petrucciani
  7. yes it's our friends from a deriative of the Fresh Sounds label.. They also came out with the Coleman Hawkins and Eddie Lockjaw Davis 3CD sets earlier... I got both of those and ordered the Red Garland. As many problems as there are with the non-royalty issues.. these sets are very well made....
  8. I'm up for it....
  9. Has anyone called to preorder this??? I tried and they wouldn't take my money....  Said they needed to wait a few weeks to get a more solid release date.... <_<
  10. I thought the Okeh set went up to 1929????
  11. Can't wait on this one..  Wonder if any of this stuff contains live performances (which hopefully would exceed the 3 min barrier).... Anybody know????
  12. I've noticed they have several major artists in this series... What is the story with this series???
  13. Okay I guess I should venture into this one.... Hard to choose... But the Village Vanguard box, Blood On the Fields and the new JALC Vitoria Suite come to mind... Just replaying the Symphony Swing show on PBS and that's very good....
  14. I caught the last ten minutes online but have it on the DVR... Will watch this weekend. (I predict within 5 posts this will generate into another Wynton bashing thread.... which gets really tiring... )
  15. Count me in... The only time I buy their stuff is when I'm sure (as sure as possible) that what I want is OOP in the original format/label...
  16. SF Jazz Collective Live 2010 - Discs 1 & 2.... Celebrating the music of Horace Silver...
  17. It really is a great read. One of the very interesting parts is the juxtaposition of Ellington and the mainstream civil rights movement. I think he (Cohen) handles this part very well. After reading it I became particularly interested in the political role Ellington chose to play in WWII (vis-a-vis) the Treasury Shows...
  18. I thought it was considered the first of the "soul-jazz" songs (before they termed it as such).... Whatever it is called... Damn good song!
  19. The interesting thing for me.. I was kept putting off buying this one due to its relatively inexpensiveness and the fact that it was released two years ago. I don't recall a Mosaic selling this quickly... So I'm very glad I got off the fence...
  20. I usually don't get into this kind of stuff... but I just received my set.. and it's numbered 4243 of 5000! This is a relatively new set...2008! I have no basis for this but this seems to be selling VERY well... So if you're on the fence...  Grab it while you can.. I think this one is clearly going to sell out soon... I'm a happy puppy....
  21. I'm listening to this now... I'm thoroughly digging it... :excited: :excited: Have to say.. not sure how Disc 2 plays out.. but as of right now.. this one's making my Top 10 of 2010...!!!! :excl: :excl:
  22. I had the pleasure of seeing perform live Elvin 4 or 5 times... A gentleman who always had a great band! He is sorely missed.
  23. Congratulations Man... Must have been a great day!
  24. I completely concur.. One of my top 3 or 5....
  25. The thing I like about these Storyville sets is like the Tatum,Duke and Webster boxes... A) they are relatively inexpensive (circa 60-80$ or so). B) they tend to have a lot of live dates C) a lot of the material is European dates which often only show up here (US) as expensive imports. I don't like the packaging... but it's often a lot of good, OOP music that's hard to get for a great price...Given the lack of specifics on the Wilson I don't know how much of this will apply...
