  1. I liked the group better when it had Josh Redman, Bobby Hutcherson and Renee Rosnes... :excl: BUT it's still a good group... and who else releases a 3CD set of new live music???? I preordered... (as usual)  http://www.sfjazz.org/shop/music/collective/cd_2010.php
  2. Not too happy with Stan Kenton Capitol Sessions (Disc 6) <_< After reading Straight Life I was intrigued by Art Pepper's days with Kenton... then... I found an opened copy of this OOP on amazon for a decent price... Liked the Anita and Christy stuff early in the set (Discs 1 - 3 or so)... but by Disc 5.... :(
  3. Jamal Disc 7.... Damn tootin'! I've blown through the 9-CD set nearly twice and it's still not getting old. This is a keeper for sure! I'm embarrassed to say, I never expected it to be this good! :blush2:
  4. Jamal Disc 1.... All I can say is Wow...!
  5. Happy Birthday Laurie... Finished reading Straight Life a few weeks ago... You are and were an amazing person in Art's life (and thereafter)... :excl: Thank you for everything you're doing....
  6. Oh come on Chuck.. We're like kids on Christmas Eve with a thousand wrapped boxes.. .you can't expect us to be LOGICAL at this time can you????? <_<
  7. Yea I'm with you.. I think I'm going to ask my wife for the membership... It's quite a deal.. and they've got the some lovely stuff there... the 1959 Monk at Newport finally got me....
  8. I can't imagine that will happen.. That's why IMHO it's in a library now... My guess is Mosaic will get a few boxed sets of this and the rest (or most) of the collection will stay at the Museum with some purchasable downloads....
  9. Sorry about that Allen.. I misunderstood... :blush2: :blush2: I wonder which artists comprise the lions share of this?? Wonder if they will at least come out a listing of the sessions soon.... :blush2:
  10. If that's a joke I don't get it.... I meant what years do these recordings cover?
  11. I may have missed it when I read the article but do we know what time period (exactly) this collection covers??
  12. I can't imagine that they wouldn't do several sets...
  13. thanks missed that one... It's great that they are in contact... Somehow I suspect several boxed sets may come out of this...!! Me personally... I'd love some Lester Young that's longer than 3 minutes... Apparently you didn't see Brownie's post earlier in this thread, here.
  14. Has anyone especially those of you on the inside with Scott Wenzel or Cuscuna emailed them about this? Or had a conversation with them about the possibility of Mosaic doing something with these recordings? They really would be the best (REALLY ONLY) place that should release these commercially...
  15. More bad news after bad news....
  16. Horrible... One of the true marks of a great musician is when you KNOW there will NEVER be another Abbey Lincoln... You will be missed....
  17. Anat Cohen and her brothers.
  18. Since I'm in the middle of Robin Kelley's book on Monk (The Life and Times of A True American Original)... I'm even anticipating even more this set. For those of you who bought the Miles set.. I know they didn't do anything to the discs (e., remastering, etc.) but are there ANY liner notes?? How do you know who's playing on each disc??? Is it printed on the back of each slipcase? Or is there a booklet?  thanks Below is a picture of the Miles box. The discs themselves are in thin cardboard slipcases, just like the Original Album Classics series and the recent Black Saint/Soul Note sets. They are exactly the same as the old OJCs. No new remastering, no new alternates, no new notes. I will be getting the set as a) I like this style of packaging and b) I don't really have $250+ to drop on the old Riverside box.
  19. After all these issues I hope Mosaic HQ is saving some $$ with this new carrier. Given that I live close to them, I haven't had any problems with my sets since they switched carriers.
  20. Happy Birthday Man... What are you 29???? (again?)
  21. I thought there were several songs from movies she had been in and I don't recall those being released on another disc (e.g., Symphony in Black, the film "New Orleans," etc. I could be wrong but...
  22. I concur... it's actually excellent.. Lots of stuff on there you won't find anywhere else... I highly recommend it. Quite a nice set. Sound is good.
  23. Sorry I meant to put that in my post... This is an mp3 download.
  24. I was shocked when I saw this. For those of you who remember he did a series of radio interviews with jazz greats in the 1980s. The box set is still around and sells for $250. I have always wanted the set but couldn't justify the $$$. This price of $8.99 for the whole thing is ridiculous... So if you're interested grab it while you can... http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003UEZS0K/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_sr_2?pf_rd_p=486539851&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B000NE59VI&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=0HRVN800N7BYE1V8SYAF P.S. Many of the interviews are quite good!!!
