  1. After all these issues I hope Mosaic HQ is saving some $$ with this new carrier. Given that I live close to them, I haven't had any problems with my sets since they switched carriers.
  2. Happy Birthday Man... What are you 29???? (again?)
  3. I thought there were several songs from movies she had been in and I don't recall those being released on another disc (e.g., Symphony in Black, the film "New Orleans," etc. I could be wrong but...
  4. I concur... it's actually excellent.. Lots of stuff on there you won't find anywhere else... I highly recommend it. Quite a nice set. Sound is good.
  5. Sorry I meant to put that in my post... This is an mp3 download.
  6. I was shocked when I saw this. For those of you who remember he did a series of radio interviews with jazz greats in the 1980s. The box set is still around and sells for $250. I have always wanted the set but couldn't justify the $$$. This price of $8.99 for the whole thing is ridiculous... So if you're interested grab it while you can... http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003UEZS0K/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_sr_2?pf_rd_p=486539851&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B000NE59VI&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=0HRVN800N7BYE1V8SYAF P.S. Many of the interviews are quite good!!!
  7. I thought the sound was better on these than the OJC originals... ( I only had one of them...)
  8. I picked up all of them except the Al Haig... The Donald Byrd is EXCELLENT! Despite the theory that this may be the same (non-royalty paying) group from Spain (or thereabouts), the production values seem far better than the Fresh Sound group of labels.
  9. I am on Disc 3 of this set and I have to say I'm thoroughly enjoying it. It's made by some EU group Solar Records. It doesn't SEEM to be a Fresh Sound company. I checked on their website looking at all labels and there was no mention of this. What's interesting about this release is that they reprint the original liner notes (with attribution) and album artwork. The sound is excellent. I'm not convinced that this is one of those bootleg Spain reissue companies. They've also come out with a 3-CD Coleman Hawkins set which I've ordered. http://www.worldsrecords.com/cgi-bin/storeR.cgi/specific=itemcode&phrase=65783&cart_id=07-26-10.28412 So what do you guys think about this label????
  10. Toshiko Akiyoshi Select - Disc 2 :tup :tup
  11. Speaking of which.. can we get an update???
  12. Just finished listening to both new CD's. Wynton's collaboration with Richard Galliano (recorded live with a companion DVD) is very good. Very interesting mixture of tunes. The Vitoria Suite is the new release from Jazz at Lincoln Center. The interesting thing about this is that the US version is a 2 CD set whereas the Import (Universal Spain) contains a bonus DVD. The DVD is excellent with very nice interviews and footage of Wynton and Paco De Lucia. If you can get the import version, I'd highly recommend it. :D :D Even Wynton bashers might just like both of these recordings...
  13. thanks man... I appreciate it... Bummer on the no liner notes.. but as a way of getting this early Monk... $80 is ridiculous! :excited: :excited: I only have 3 or 4 of those early dates... What I find interesting is how much of a profit can they really make profit on this stuff? I mean even though they aren't adding anything you're talking about $5 a CD... Don't get me wrong.. I'm not complaining... Below is a picture of the Miles box. The discs themselves are in thin cardboard slipcases, just like the Original Album Classics series and the recent Black Saint/Soul Note sets. They are exactly the same as the old OJCs. No new remastering, no new alternates, no new notes. I will be getting the set as a) I like this style of packaging and b) I don't really have $250+ to drop on the old Riverside box.
  14. I have most of them... Really like the consistently underrated Dave Kikoski.... :tup The Steve Davis Quintet (with Larry Willis) is also really nice... I got email from them a few weeks ago that a new batch is due out soon....
  15. okay well since everyone seems a bit indifferent to this.. two final questions... 1) If this is similar to the Miles set could someone post some photos (and discuss) the packaging. Even if they are in slipcases 16Cds is a lot. 2) Compared to the 1991 boxed set... How is the sound? And do we have an idea about alternate or unreleased takes??? thanks... I've got all the Columbia Monk but little of the Riverside... Is ANYONE getting this?
  16. Got mine yesterday... Probably going to start listening today or tommorrow....
  17. amazon has the distributor as Universal.... So does anyone have the inside scoop on this? It's supposedly out soon... (Aug 10)
  18. Yeah but if you look at the amazon link it doesn't describe it as an import.
  19. 16 Cd's brand new on a US label for less than $80????  What the hell is this about??? Can't find any info anywhere!!!! http://www.amazon.com/All-Monk-Riverside-Albums-Thelonious/dp/B003V1ARGC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1279566035&sr=8-1 http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?pid=8241415
  20. Just got an email with the shipping information... Hopefully the set will arrive Monday (if not today
  21. Just got off the phone with HQ... Jamal sets are going out next week....
  22. Does anyone have a US Distributor I can pre-order from? (Or even a reliable international one?) New release of Junko Onishi always makes me happy. Oh, I missed that. Any details on who's playing with her etc. Bentsy? I'll e-mail Hiroshi ans ask him. I received this e-mail message from Hiroshi: Thanks Bentsy - it looks good. From the title I wondered whether it might have been a classical rather than jazz recording. It's on my list!
  23. The Bridge - The Life and Rise of Barack Obama - David Remnick
