  1. Preordered the Jazz Crusaders a long time ago... Likely to get the Buddy Rich for a b-day present.. the big FOUR-0 !!!!! And already pre-ordered the PJ Trio and Tolliver Selects...
  2. have we figured out why the pricing scheme is so far apart??? $40 vs. $100... doesn't seem to make sense... (not that I'm complaining!!!! Got my order at CDU...in )
  3. Hey Ron... How did you get here from over so fast at aaj..../jcorner... Did you teleport or something??? Or do you know something about this INTERNET that we don't????? "Record" may technically still be correct since a CD is, in fact, a RECORDing. ←
  4. don't even go there Man... I'm still pissed about having to return my Dexter Manhattan Symphonie - since I didn't know about that bullshit copy system... They need to allow extra time to copy-protect those suckers ... ←
  5. the preordered cost at cduniverse is like $39.19.. not sure why Amazon and other sites are charging triple.... but I preordered mine... locked in the price at cdu.... Great deal to me!!!!!!!!!!!!
  6. Absolutely.... thanks again... Hey PM me...I've got a thank you for you.... (seriously)... . . . especially at the price you paid for the Farlow. ←
  7. never been a huge Cannonball guy... but I ordered Money in the Pocket.. just to hear that live version of Fidder on the Roof....
  8. Johnny Smith... Disc 5... liking it better the 2nd time around....Still 2nd to the Farlow.... but enjoyable nonetheless....
  9. Just about every damn website is like..."backordered"... 2-5 weeks... Guess the NY Times article did it's job... Can anybody get this? Not sure when (or from where) I'll get my copy.... any suggestions?
  10. thanks... but we've been talking about this for awhile.... http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=20913
  11. this is nonsense!!! I bought the Dexter and the Brookmeyer and had no idea about this until I put them in my PC's cd tray.... I keep an electronic database of all my CD's (1700) and this won't be read by my software app.... so I have to install their piece of crap software to PLAY the CD.... (forget about copying it...)???! I emailed Sony to complain... (that was a waste of time but made me feel a little better... ) and am sending the CD's back.... You SHOULD NEVER have to alter your computer simply to play a music CD.... (Looks like a good lawsuit to me....) Do we know if they are going to do this with ALL legacy reissues???? Since I guess I'll not be buying those anytime soon..
  12. I ended up going with the Yamaha... and I have to say it's a great upgrade... My wife (who didn't want me spending more $$$) even said it was more than worth it....
  13. as the thread starter.... (and with some wise advice)... I went ahead and bought the Buddy and Sweets CD to get a sense if I would like the upcoming Mosaic set.... (since it's very likely that session will be included in the Mosaic set). (Only cost me $8 on overstock.com. ) After listening to that CD, I have to say I can understand all the fury on this thread... Seems like you either love Buddy Rich, hate him or at the very least respect his contributions to the music.... When I frst put it on... and heard the 1st cut... basically a 4 minute drum solo... I was like... OKAY... that's at least one Mosaic I can cross off my "WANT" list... (since I wasn't into it....) but...... as the record goes on.... It's REALLY good!!. Great playing by Sweets... Barney Kessel... enjoyable as usual but a bit understated.... and Rich's remaining work on the record, I thoroughly enjoyed... Very nice brush work and his solos seemed to "make sense" to my ears.... So I left this CD... wanting to hear more... So I think I'm definitely in the "gonna buy it" category... Thanks for ALL the input..... And as with all of this music... it's ultimately what our own ears tell us.. (as to whether we like someone's music or not)....and my ears want to hear more.... Oh and one other point... the question was bought up earlier as to whether or not the Rich was an "odd choice" for a Mosaic set.... Based on what I heard (and the little I know) about him and his role, I would have to say it is very consistent with the Mosaic approach and focus.... Someone who had an instrumental role in the music and focusing on one period or aspect of thier career.... Overall, this is a set I'm looking forward to..... Thanks for the lively debate.... Finally... as a complete layman (read - non-musician...) does his drumming sound the tiniest bit like Art Blakely???? Guess I know what my wife's birthday present to me is....
  14. I completely understand what you're saying... Sometimes you're in the mood for vocals, sometimes not... but the beauty of this set.. is that I suspect it will grow on you.. not only over weeks but years.... Good purchase!
  15. . . . but she looked so great in those gloves and high heels--naaah, on second thought, better not try that one. ← yes you can... just add she's 80+ now... and YOU (honey) look much better in high heels... Or how about....It's REALLY great music and I'll be a very sad, unhappy person if I don't get it... OR.... Do what I Do.... Order online, hide receipt, intercept DHL (or UPS) delivery while she's in the bathroom. hide box in closet... She'll never know....!!!
  16. thank you Ron... And why wouldn't I like a good looking (then) woman who could sing her ass off????? ← What's the deal TM, you trying to start an anti-J.J. lobby? ← No, he just has a "thing" for Anita. ←
  17. does anybody have any thoughts about this? I currently have the Denon 395 (80w) and am considering upgrading??? This is what my Tweeter guy recommended??? Any thoughts? Other suggestions??? only for music... not HT
  18. I'm sure this has been talked about at some time and I missed it... but can someone tell me what LP/CD's the box set includes? thanks.... and I assume that all the previously unreleased stuff is avaiable on the individual cd's as well....?
  19. I know... I remember...I bought the Miles-Gil Evans box as soon as it came out... and was absolutely furious with the number of false starts/alternate takes, studio chatter (had to be at least 1 or 2 cd's full of it...) - sold it months later and went back and bought the original CD's.... So I was extremely distrustful when the rest of the sets came out (except the live Plugged Nickel and Blackhawk sets obvious no "studio chatter, false starts, incomplete takes)... So I didn't get any of the other sets ('Trane, Bitches Brew, etc.) ... Until... the new Seven Steps release (metal spine), and then found out about the longbox releases. IMHO I don't think the longbox is that bad.... I just put it on top of my CD cases... and the price is absolutely fab....!!! When most of these were first issued there was no choice. The long box was only created in the last year or so. Given the choice now, I still might go with the metal spine...but I would have second thoughts. ←
  20. I just ordered my Longbox of the 2nd quintet on overstock.com and paid $45... which is $40 cheaper than the metal spine version (on cduniverse.com)... I really don't get why you guys would spend at least an $20-40 more for EXACTLY the same music/liner notes, etc... I mean to each his own but.... IMHO...
  21. Columbia Swing Sessions Disc 2... 2nd go around... liking it a little more...
  22. I concur.... it isn't THAT bad.... Is this the disk that contains the pop tunes (such as 'Light My Fire')? On my first listen to the Gerald Wilson box I disliked the pop tunes very much. On subsequent listens, however, I've learned a new respect for Wilson's pop tunes. The pop tunes are not the best of the set but they are enjoyable. Wilson did well at taking the pop tunes and making a big band of them. When my mood is right I enjoy the hell out of Wilson's pop arrangements. Still, yes, I'd rather hear Gerald Wilson do jazz. ←
