  1. Okay... to the OP... Unfortunately, I have a lot to say about this as I did it years ago. Like many of us, I've got tons of stuff. Originally I had 4000 Cds which I had burned to digital mp3s. I have to suggest a few things NOT to do. To me the essential things in order are... 1) Have multiple backups. 2) DO NOT subscribe to Apple's Itunes Match service EVER. It completely screwed up many of my boxed sets and imports as Apple uses the titles/cover art/discographical info on its servers. In cases like our music and probably classical... It gets that info wrong a lot and it overwrites whatever was originally entered. 3) I would also NOT subscribe to Apple Music (even when there are free trials). Yes, it lets you play whatever you want and I've found that helpful in deciding whether or not I want to buy a new release BUT...... Once you've downloaded something from Apple Music it becomes very difficult (at least for me) to remember what I purchased or what I "borrowed" from Apple Music. I'm already down that rabbit hole and have become kinda obsessive about not downloading stuff from that store unless I purchased it. 4) Once you've managed to do the migration, in Itunes click on the View tab, scroll down, and select "Show Status Bar." That will show the totals of what you have. I took a screenshot of mine a year or so ago, so I always knew what the right size was... (see attached). 5) DO NOT use another program like Amazon Music... (That compounded my problem).... Write down your questions and try to find a really good person at the closest Apple store who's a music person. I've lost a fair amount of stuff with Apple's Itunes mess... but overall Mac is better than Windows.
  2. Okay, am I missing something? I know vinyl is the thing behind Record Store Day but I don't recall any jazz release like this, where you can ONLY get 3 bonus hours of digital music from buying a vinyl set... WTF??? 😕
  3. Is it my imagination or does the packaging/set-up seem extremely unimaginative (aka flimsy)? I don't have any of these records but compared to some of the more recent Mingus releases.... Seems kinda cheap.... Am I missing something? Okay I just gave a listen to the one track that's available... Not feeling it... Who's the vocalist?
  4. Wow... I don't know what to say... I'm grateful for the musical legacy he left us.
  5. https://storyvillerecords.bandcamp.com/album/copenhagen-coda
  6. I'm the most interested in Charles McPherson, Charles Lloyd, Joshua Redman, John Scofield, and Kurt Elling. I haven't seen Diana Krall in ages and have not had the chance to check out the Kamasi Washington scene. I'm also curious about Somi and Samara Joy. I might stick around for Herbie who likely will be the last act of the weekend.
  7. https://newportjazz.org/lineup I for one, am much more excited this year. I'll be there all three days. There's still a lot of "who the hell is that???" BUT.. they got some of the old-timers as well... I'm very intrigued. It's felt like the last few years I had no idea who their artists were... It seems like a more mixed lineup this year of established jazz musicians and a few crossovers and newbies... Anybody on this board, recommend who I should check out (of the newbies)?
  8. Do you have the 3cd box? How does this compare? Even though it's cheaper - I'm leaning against as I have a lot of Jim Hall.
  9. So the basic punch line is that this is the first time, the Bill Evans estate will actually get their monies? Is that right? If so, then I'm glad I pre-ordered.
  10. I was also there. Good show. Billy Harper was so impressive.
  11. Now that the JATP box is out.. I'm wondering if you guys have any info on the next couple of Mosaic releases. What are they working on and ETA? thanks.
  12. Is there any logic which releases also get put out on CD? I refuse to do the vinyl thing, but I'm interested in the Blakey.
  13. 1000% this... and in addition... one website I found said it was 3 hours...
  14. I really can't find any info about this release other than what's already been posted here. I need a CD release since I don't do vinyl. Anybody got any inside info esp. on the download material?
  15. What is this about??? "This RSD 2023 release comes with a QR code which accesses almost five hours of content - essential for the true Art Blakey enthusiast." That's like a box set??? Anybody got any info esp. on cost? Will there also be a CD/digital release?
  16. One of my favorite sets... Not a bad cd in the bunch. Just Disc 1 of this one... Been a long time since I heard it.
  17. Not going tonight and it's not jazz but very excited to get tickets to see Grace Potter solo in March... here in the Boston area.
  18. I'd love to track down a good copy of the 3cd set for a better price than discogs. The digital version is avaiable on itunes.
  19. I was listening to WBGO this morning and a live version of "Spain" was playing. I remembered how much I liked RTF and I'm trying to understand something. I went back into my digital collection (a f'ing mess that I have to get better organized) and found a 3cd version of this set. I also did some digging and there's a 2cd version. https://www.allmusic.com/album/live-complete-concert-mw0000279016 I also saw a reference to the 3cd version here.... https://www.allmusic.com/album/the-complete-columbia-albums-collection-mw0002254159 which says in part... "The last three discs in this collection are made up of Return to Forever's Live: The Complete Concert, with the same basic lineup as Musicmagic. This live album had a checkered release history in the United States. It initially appeared as a single LP simply called Live -- single because it had been edited down from the two-and-a-half-hour concert. Two years later, in 1979, it was issued as a four-album set, unedited. On compact disc, it first appeared as a two-disc set that deleted all of the spoken intros and dialogue, and featured the LP-edited versions of "The Musician" and "So Long Mickey Mouse." In Japan, the complete concert was released as a triple-disc set, and it is that version which appears here. For this reason alone, it may be worth the entire purchase price for Return to Forever's America and European fans who didn't set out the big money for the Japanese version." Which one is the most accurate? Which one has better sound? I'm so confused. I'm trying to track down the best, most complete version (if that's not the one I have)... Thanks. I'm thinking that these have mediocre sound at best.
