  1. He's just come out with a double CD solo record called "Solo Game."
  2. I've got a ticket tonight to see Brad Mehldau trio here in Boston but I don't know if I'm going to go. I'm listening again to some of his stuff to decide.
  3. Thanks. If my memory serves me correctly (and it may not be due to old age...:) A long time ago, when Mosaic used to post the discography, they also had the run time for each song, I think. That's helpful though. Thanks. Good point and idea. I tend to try to listen to box sets over a few days and don't go back to them for quite a while. The only ones I remember listening to often are Elvin Jones, Tal Farlow, and the Jazz Crusaders. Thanks for the suggestion.
  4. This is going to sound like a stupid and shallow question but.... Does anyone have a rough idea of how many/what percentage of short tunes (e.g., under 4-5 minutes) make up this set? I have a hard time with tons of three-minute songs. I much prefer sets where the musicians stretch out. I know some of this is when the records were made. Due to technical issues, songs had to be short. I just have a hard time engaging with 5-7-10 CDs of anyone where most of what I'm hearing are short three-minute tunes. I know the set is not out yet and the Mosaic discography doesn't tell me. Are we looking at 70% of the music being short three to four-minute songs or more like 20%? I'm guessing most of the tunes on likely to be short. Thanks.
  5. I was listening to one cut on the radio and there was a lot of hissing... Obviously with live recordings - it's a hit or miss, sonically.... how's the sound compared to the Mosaic set?
  6. Does anyone have the prior 2 sets? I'm debating. How does it compare with the Mosaic set? I'm annoyed that most of the music is under 80 minutes and could have been put on one disc instead of two. I haven't gotten it as I think the Mosaic is enough but.... 😕
  7. All of Michel Petrucciani's solo work... and this one
  8. So I'll go back to my original question.. is Mosaic correct that this is the only session that's been released on CD before? I don't buy vinyl and I don't think I have any Byas... so I might have to thinks about this one.
  9. Am I correct in reading that only one of these sessions has ever appeared on CD??
  10. Thanks. Am I wrong that they seem to be rechurning out a lot of stuff recently?
  11. I apologize if this already came up somewhere but what's the deal with the Craft Recordings company? Is this a legit reissue company? My instincts tells me it's not. They've been churning out a lot of stuff lately.
  12. I have a stupid question. Is this the same website/company that did the Weather Report crowdsourcing documentary years ago? I know it was either Kickstarter or Indiegogo I gave them like a few hundred bucks and never got anything and never heard back from my emails. Does anyone else remember this?
  13. In the 90s (I think) it was a label that put out a lot of good mainstream jazz. I have all their Mulgrew Miller releases, most of the Rene Marie. They also had Steven Wilson, Dena DeRose, and a few others. The label just seemed to disappear. In addition to their roster, the physical presentation of the CDs was very good.
  14. Yea, I kinda remember this now... I read the book a long time ago. This concept and theme cuts across a lot of music genres... unfortunately.
  15. I don't think I've ever seen this before... and I have a lot of Jackie Mac. What year is this? Missing Chick these days despite the Scientology stuff.
  16. What do you mean by "personal racial self-consciousness?" I think I understand but I want to make sure I'm not guessing wrong.
  17. This seems very confusing and odd. They are releasing 3 sets of LP's (and digital downloads). It's not clear to me if most of these are cuts from the previous releases. The third release says "The final volume of the 3-part series features brand new studio recordings, including a 7-part suite inspired by the band’s history." I'm taking that the first two are just "greatest hits" of the prior releases and not previously unreleased material. I've emailed them for clarification. If anyone's interested, if I hear back I'll post here. https://www.sfjazz.org/shop/music/sfjazz-collective-retrospective-vol1/ https://www.sfjazz.org/shop/music/sfjazz-collective-retrospective-vol2/ https://www.sfjazz.org/shop/music/sfjazz-collective-retrospective-vol3/
  18. I just use Itunes. If you are on a Mac the main thing is to change the options so that it burns to mp3 not the Apple format.
  19. Listening to her new release now... I've always been a big fan... This release is a little different in that she has a trumpet player and at least one song on vocals... I'm digging it...
  20. One track up on Bandcamp.... https://resonancerecordsjazz.bandcamp.com/album/les-mccann-never-a-dull-moment-live-from-coast-to-coast-1966-1967
  21. So the Resonance stuff hasn't been released before??? The way I read the press release it sounded like some of it had been released previously. If it has, but not in the Smoking at the Half Note Live... then where was it released? Is this all new? I'm so confused.
  22. Agree... Chick Corea's estate just put out a couple of things... a new 2CD set of his electric band and other cd... https://chickcorea.shop.musictoday.com/product/XTCDCC007/chick-corea-elektric-band-the-future-is-now-2cd?cp=null https://chickcorea.shop.musictoday.com/product/XTCDCC008/chick-corea-sardinia-cd?cp=null
  23. https://www.jazzmessengers.com/en/97961/cal-tjader/catch-the-groove This one I can get behind... Looking forward to it.
  24. I had NO idea Epic owned Bandcamp. Doesn't Microsoft own Epic? I don't know if this is good for jazz or bad.
