Just listened to Roadgame again.. Even though I have the Galaxy set ... there's still more than half of the material that's new... It's worth it to me... Can't wait!

I might have one or two of the previous releases and the Galaxy but I'm with you. It is worth it to have the entire thing in one coherent package (with hopefully improved sound). I'm in. Is this going to be released on Bandcamp?

Long story short... - 98% of my 4,000 CDs are on Apple's iCloud servers. I only kept 20% of the CDs (Mosaic sets and other key choices) and Apple messed up and didn't copy/lost the other 2%. Every now and then I've downloaded parts of the collection but have never downloaded the entire thing because it takes forever. It's kinda locked me into using Apple's Music Service but I'm in their ecosystem anyway. If I had to do it all over again, I'd keep everything locally, backed up twice and I would upload nothing.

Just purchased it on Itunes. I'm so happy that there have been several excellent releases of Mulgrew. The 3cd Roy Hargrove and Kenny Barron sets were fantastic (especially the Barron). Looking forward to listening to this one.

So I went. I'm not going to link to Nate Chinen's review but here's my basic take. I had a three-day ticket but ended up only going on Sunday. The highlights for me were Charles McPherson and Diana Krall. McPherson's band was tight (Terrell Stafford on trumpet was excellent.) He rightfully deserved a standing O for the last song, his take on Cherokee I hadn't seen Diana Krall in years (and had become very disappointed with the records she released). I followed her career from the beginning and really enjoyed it when she first appeared on the scene in the late 90s. Yet I realized again with her straight-ahead ballad-heavy quartet, that she really knows when to pause, spacing, and how to elicit sincere dramatic effect. When she did "In the Wee Small Hours of the Morning" on solo piano, I unexpectedly cried. Beautiful, just absolutely peaceful, longing, and full of emotion. Unfortunately, the schedule had her set overlapping with Samara Joy. Although I did like what I saw of Samara Joy I was disappointed that she did a lot of loud singing. It wasn't in the vein of Mariah Carey, screeching but it was in the ballpark. The crowd loved her, especially the black folks (of which I am one). The enthusiasm of the moment and her popularity took away from any quieter moments there might have been. I wonder how her full show differs from a raucous 50-minute set at Newport? I also caught Matthew Whitaker, Scary Goldings, and a bit of Marcus Miller, who were fine (Miller was the least of the bunch). Next year is the 70th anniversary which I expect will sell out. I read Chinen's review and I agree with most of what we both saw. Looking forward to next year's festival. I think George Wein would be proud.

Thanks I had missed that.. But I'm wondering something else... Like it doesn't seem like he gets much press. Am I wrong about that?

Just saw him at the Newport Jazz Festival this weekend for the first time. An excellent set especially given he's 84. I didn't expect it. He's still blowing well like Billy Harper. It's my impression he doesn't get a lot of publicity or attention. Why not? His set at Newport got a warranted standing ovation. What am I missing?

I'm listening to it for the first time now... and am loving it... I like this WAY better than the live Love Supreme Seattle release a few years ago. I know it's a completely different set list but the sound quality seems much better. Very happy with this. I wish there was more...

My copy is in still transit... Looking forward to this especially because of the set list. It really sucks that a lot of those Newport 60's records had short sets (in terms of length).

The sale is still going on today after Prime Day.. I might have to grab this one at this price...

Sounds like basically... there's not a lot interest in this boxed set here... due to most of us having the CDs...?

Hi.. I'm trying to find one of two things. Either the best box set of Nina Simone or some good live CDs. I came across a few versions/references to the Phillips Years set. One seems to be a 7CD set from Verve in 2016 and the other a 4CD set from 2003 Four Women. Which is the better set? What's the difference? Sound qualities? thanks.

I only have one of these cds. I have to look at the discography more... especially who the key players are. It's the maybe bucket.

I listened to this yesterday. Outstanding. I have no idea how many times McCoy performed there but they could have easily turned this into a multi-disc set. The odd thing is I think it clocks in at 84 minutes. I'm inclined to get the Modern Jazz Quartet one as well.

I'm inclined to grab this one but it seemed to me like the sample track sounds like they're in a hallway...

I'm getting the sense this has not been released before. Is this blurb accurate? Anybody got any opinions on it?
