  1. https://newportjazz.org/lineup I for one, am much more excited this year. I'll be there all three days. There's still a lot of "who the hell is that???" BUT.. they got some of the old-timers as well... I'm very intrigued. It's felt like the last few years I had no idea who their artists were... It seems like a more mixed lineup this year of established jazz musicians and a few crossovers and newbies... Anybody on this board, recommend who I should check out (of the newbies)?
  2. Do you have the 3cd box? How does this compare? Even though it's cheaper - I'm leaning against as I have a lot of Jim Hall.
  3. Thanks... greatly appreciated and great find!
  4. So the basic punch line is that this is the first time, the Bill Evans estate will actually get their monies? Is that right? If so, then I'm glad I pre-ordered.
  5. I was also there. Good show. Billy Harper was so impressive.
  6. What label is putting this out? Legit one?
  7. Now that the JATP box is out.. I'm wondering if you guys have any info on the next couple of Mosaic releases. What are they working on and ETA? thanks.
  8. Is there any logic which releases also get put out on CD? I refuse to do the vinyl thing, but I'm interested in the Blakey.
  9. 1000% this... and in addition... one website I found said it was 3 hours...
  10. I really can't find any info about this release other than what's already been posted here. I need a CD release since I don't do vinyl. Anybody got any inside info esp. on the download material?
  11. What is this about??? "This RSD 2023 release comes with a QR code which accesses almost five hours of content - essential for the true Art Blakey enthusiast." That's like a box set??? Anybody got any info esp. on cost? Will there also be a CD/digital release?
  12. One of my favorite sets... Not a bad cd in the bunch. Just Disc 1 of this one... Been a long time since I heard it.
  13. Not going tonight and it's not jazz but very excited to get tickets to see Grace Potter solo in March... here in the Boston area.
  14. I'd love to track down a good copy of the 3cd set for a better price than discogs. The digital version is avaiable on itunes.
  15. I was listening to WBGO this morning and a live version of "Spain" was playing. I remembered how much I liked RTF and I'm trying to understand something. I went back into my digital collection (a f'ing mess that I have to get better organized) and found a 3cd version of this set. I also did some digging and there's a 2cd version. https://www.allmusic.com/album/live-complete-concert-mw0000279016 I also saw a reference to the 3cd version here.... https://www.allmusic.com/album/the-complete-columbia-albums-collection-mw0002254159 which says in part... "The last three discs in this collection are made up of Return to Forever's Live: The Complete Concert, with the same basic lineup as Musicmagic. This live album had a checkered release history in the United States. It initially appeared as a single LP simply called Live -- single because it had been edited down from the two-and-a-half-hour concert. Two years later, in 1979, it was issued as a four-album set, unedited. On compact disc, it first appeared as a two-disc set that deleted all of the spoken intros and dialogue, and featured the LP-edited versions of "The Musician" and "So Long Mickey Mouse." In Japan, the complete concert was released as a triple-disc set, and it is that version which appears here. For this reason alone, it may be worth the entire purchase price for Return to Forever's America and European fans who didn't set out the big money for the Japanese version." Which one is the most accurate? Which one has better sound? I'm so confused. I'm trying to track down the best, most complete version (if that's not the one I have)... Thanks. I'm thinking that these have mediocre sound at best.
  16. Caught Brandford Marsalis Quartete at Berklee Performance Center last night. Excellent show. It's been a long time since I saw him. Very glad I did.

    Billy Harper

Yea that's interesting. Obviously his wife is pretty youngish. I'm going to see the Cookers in a month or so here. Had no idea he was 80. I hope I look like that when I'm 80.
  18. I did see that.. you're right it's not clear if it's from a live set/studio set or the number of CDs...
  19. Have you seen Mary Halvorson before? I just can't get into her music and I'm wondering if her live performance is different/better?
  20. Interesting... I did wait a couple of weeks to order but I haven't gotten the "out of stock" or "order processed" emails. I'm just assuming I'm in the queue (which is good).
  21. When and on what label was this published?
  22. Here's one of the things I'm still confused about. I have this set. It overlaps conceptually and time-wise with the Mosaic set but I'm getting the sense that the Mosaic set doesn't just duplicate this. Am I wrong? I'm finding this so confusing.... https://www.allmusic.com/album/the-complete-norman-granz-jam-sessions-mw0000143380
  23. Well.. I might be one of the few... but I preordered... Happy Holidays to all.
  24. Wow... I thought that this would have generated more interest here but I guess a lot of have some or most of this? Even though I have almost no idea what's been previously available on CD....
