  1. okay not to hijack this thread... but what would you consider the best 'Trane biography???? I find many jazz bios poorly written and too hyperbolic. I did love Robin Kelley's Monk bio...
  2. okay, now I have a few questions about this.... 1. Has anyone heard what Ravi has to say about this? I assume he knew it existed prior to Resonance reaching out to the estate. 2. Was there only one set that night? Doesn't it seem odd that 'Trane only played one set of this material? If he was performing it live it's hard to conceive that he only played it once - ever? - Okay I'm editing myself. How does this differ than the Deluxe Edition which had a live performance on it? 3. Why is this coming out now??? I know it takes a long time to get the rights and stuff.. but????
  3. I'm in the same boat as you.. This is going to take a while to digest properly....
  4. Although I have the 3cd set and haven't given it a spin a long time, this was a must-have in my view for a few reasons. I have a serious doubt that we're ever going to see (I know ever is a long time) much more unreleased Lee Morgan period, much less Blue note released. That was good enough for me. I just haven't gotten my boxed set yet from Importcds. Should arrive in the next few days. Looking forward to it, even if I do have some of it and there's repetition. Thanks for the updates on those who've received it already.
  5. My order from importcds just shipped today. So I agree.
  6. Just found this and preordered. Love me some OP.... There's also a documentary coming out about him in the fall. https://www.mackavenue.com/store/mac1151
  7. I have to say I've been disappointed in the last several Metheny records but since this is a live set, I'm willing to give it a try. I thought there was a rumor that there was going to be one more Metheny Group record before Lyle Mays passed????
  8. It's been a long time since I broke this out. Listening at a public cafe is a weird but liberating post lockdown feeling. I got the digital version of this in the Itunes store for like $10 at the time.
  9. Lovely review. My only quibble with the review is I think the author minimizes Mulgrew. I can't wait for this one. I hope there's more in the vault to be released someday.
  10. Dave Douglas 50th birthday recordings.. I forgot how good this was... https://davedouglas.bandcamp.com/album/dd-50-special-edition-50th-birthday-recordings
  11. When you say it's too loud... what exactly do you mean? Is there distortion? Out of balance? Do you know if the 2006 Standards Brussels box is too loud?
  12. Just listened to some of this. Very nice and set your own price for download! https://extracelestialarts.bandcamp.com/album/dewey-redman-quartet-live-archival-recording?from=discover-top
  13. I assume you're talking about the Braxton, right? Even so, that still seems like a very quick sellout. After listening to numerous tracks I caved and got the cd set. I know it's a lot but watching those sets tick down was a good incentive to pull the trigger. I agree that I prefer physical cds for certain artists.
  14. Does his stuff always go this fast??? What was so unique about this set? I know 300 isn't a lot.. but that set seemed to go very fast...
  15. Obviously it's a limited edition... How many do you think they're printing? Is it likely after these 28... the CDs are gone and there will only be a download option?
  16. With someone as large a discography as his... it's hard to figure out where to start. I liked what I listened to from this set... but it seems odd as is a departure from his "typical work" or is genuinely genreless????
  17. Just saw this upcoming release... What do you guys think? https://newbraxtonhouse.bandcamp.com/album/quartet-standards-2020?from=fanpub_fnb_pr Does Braxton release a "Standards" set often? Doesn't seem like it.... Not sure what to make of this.
  18. Well put... I was minimally curious until I saw the $350 price tag.....
  19. It was/is $7.99 in the iTunes Store... With that price... I couldn't resist... love it.
  20. Already preordered... I loved Mulgrew... I always believed he was soo.... underrated. His 3cd set with Kenny Barron is fantastic.
  21. Do you mean"I Remember Britt?" If so there are 3 versions... If not I don't see it. https://www.bluenote.com/lee-morgan-the-complete-live-at-the-lighthouse-out-july-30/
  22. I mostly get my cds from importcds.com. They've got the CD set @$60 not including shipping...
