  1. Is there any logic which releases also get put out on CD? I refuse to do the vinyl thing, but I'm interested in the Blakey.
  2. 1000% this... and in addition... one website I found said it was 3 hours...
  3. I really can't find any info about this release other than what's already been posted here. I need a CD release since I don't do vinyl. Anybody got any inside info esp. on the download material?
  4. What is this about??? "This RSD 2023 release comes with a QR code which accesses almost five hours of content - essential for the true Art Blakey enthusiast." That's like a box set??? Anybody got any info esp. on cost? Will there also be a CD/digital release?
  5. One of my favorite sets... Not a bad cd in the bunch. Just Disc 1 of this one... Been a long time since I heard it.
  6. Not going tonight and it's not jazz but very excited to get tickets to see Grace Potter solo in March... here in the Boston area.
  7. I'd love to track down a good copy of the 3cd set for a better price than discogs. The digital version is avaiable on itunes.
  8. I was listening to WBGO this morning and a live version of "Spain" was playing. I remembered how much I liked RTF and I'm trying to understand something. I went back into my digital collection (a f'ing mess that I have to get better organized) and found a 3cd version of this set. I also did some digging and there's a 2cd version. https://www.allmusic.com/album/live-complete-concert-mw0000279016 I also saw a reference to the 3cd version here.... https://www.allmusic.com/album/the-complete-columbia-albums-collection-mw0002254159 which says in part... "The last three discs in this collection are made up of Return to Forever's Live: The Complete Concert, with the same basic lineup as Musicmagic. This live album had a checkered release history in the United States. It initially appeared as a single LP simply called Live -- single because it had been edited down from the two-and-a-half-hour concert. Two years later, in 1979, it was issued as a four-album set, unedited. On compact disc, it first appeared as a two-disc set that deleted all of the spoken intros and dialogue, and featured the LP-edited versions of "The Musician" and "So Long Mickey Mouse." In Japan, the complete concert was released as a triple-disc set, and it is that version which appears here. For this reason alone, it may be worth the entire purchase price for Return to Forever's America and European fans who didn't set out the big money for the Japanese version." Which one is the most accurate? Which one has better sound? I'm so confused. I'm trying to track down the best, most complete version (if that's not the one I have)... Thanks. I'm thinking that these have mediocre sound at best.
  9. Caught Brandford Marsalis Quartete at Berklee Performance Center last night. Excellent show. It's been a long time since I saw him. Very glad I did.

Yea that's interesting. Obviously his wife is pretty youngish. I'm going to see the Cookers in a month or so here. Had no idea he was 80. I hope I look like that when I'm 80.
  11. I did see that.. you're right it's not clear if it's from a live set/studio set or the number of CDs...
  12. Have you seen Mary Halvorson before? I just can't get into her music and I'm wondering if her live performance is different/better?
  13. Interesting... I did wait a couple of weeks to order but I haven't gotten the "out of stock" or "order processed" emails. I'm just assuming I'm in the queue (which is good).
  14. When and on what label was this published?
  15. Here's one of the things I'm still confused about. I have this set. It overlaps conceptually and time-wise with the Mosaic set but I'm getting the sense that the Mosaic set doesn't just duplicate this. Am I wrong? I'm finding this so confusing.... https://www.allmusic.com/album/the-complete-norman-granz-jam-sessions-mw0000143380
  16. Well.. I might be one of the few... but I preordered... Happy Holidays to all.
  17. Wow... I thought that this would have generated more interest here but I guess a lot of have some or most of this? Even though I have almost no idea what's been previously available on CD....
  18. I totally don't get it... I may be dense but I don't understand. Usually in their discographies they do us the favor of listing what sessions have been previously released on CD... That's one of the ways I evaluate whether I'm in or not.. I'm not buying sets which I already have on CD... It may be me, but I find this very confusing.
  19. So I'm still confused by the discography. What if anything has previously been on CD? The Mosaic page implies almost none of it has been on CD before... but that doesn't seem right.... Album Index: 10” LP Concert Blues is a “bonus” LP as part of the Clef MG Vol. 16 shown below. 12” LP Clef MG Vol. 11 (2 LP) Norman Granz’ Jazz at the Philharmonic # 11 Clef MG Vol. 15 (3 LP) Norman Granz’ Jazz at the Philharmonic # 15 Clef MG Vol. 16 (4 LP) Norman Granz’ Jazz at the Philharmonic # 16 Clef MG Vol. 17 (3 LP) Norman Granz’ Jazz at the Philharmonic # 17 Norgran MG JC-1 (2 LP) Norman Granz’ Jazz Concert # 1 Verve MG V-8231-2 (2 LP) Jazz at the Hollywood Bowl Verve 825-101 Lester Young – Carnegie Blues Verve MGVS 6026 (Stereo) Ella Fitzgerald At The Opera House Verve MGV 8264 (Mono) Ella Fitzgerald At The Opera House Verve MGVS 6027 (Stereo) Stan Getz and J.J. 20. I'm a little confused about one line in the description..... What do they mean "passed over for a retrospective?" Does that mean some of it was released as a single CD? The discography doesn't make it clear if this stuff has ever been on CD before (and if so, which recordings). Anybody know or got any insight? A First-Ever Collection JATP 1950s Jam Sessions JATP concerts from the 1940s were documented in 1998 on a 10-CD Verve boxed set. But until now, the 1950s concerts have been passed over for a retrospective.
  21. I'm very interested in this but I'm confused. I found a photo that shows a 3rd double CD set but I can't find any info - any where about the 3rd set. Why isn't it being released with the other two? Anybody got any info? thanks.
  22. Does anyone have an update on the JATP set that was rumored to be released in December?
  23. so glad to see Monette Sudler recorded again...
  24. I'll take this as a general no... Okay let me try a different bucket list question... Anyone gone to any of the following jazz festivals and was it worth it? Montreux, Monterey, New Orleans, Detroit, or Chicago? Trying to give myself an empty nester gift next year,
