Very sad news, sorry to hear this. A great guy, had personal contact with him a few times, but that was a long time ago. -
Bob Crosby Mosaic Mentioned on Jazz Messengers
J.A.W. replied to colinmce's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Maybe there's been some misunderstanding. VAT is added when the sets arrive in Belgium and is included in the prices on TYQMusic's site. [edit] When I put the Crosby set in my cart it shows that the total (including 12,50 euros shipping) includes VAT: Subtotal €139,00 Shipping Flat rate: €12,50 Total €151,50 (includes €24,12 VAT estimated for the Netherlands) -
Bob Crosby Mosaic Mentioned on Jazz Messengers

VAT is included in the prices on TYQMusic's site. I've ordered several sets from them and they never added anything other than shipping. But don't take my word for it, just ask TYQMusic's owner, Mark Steyaert. -
Bob Crosby Mosaic Mentioned on Jazz Messengers
J.A.W. replied to colinmce's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
This may be of interest to EU residents: the Bob Crosy set can be pre-ordered from Belgian store TYQMusic: Bob Crosby Mosaic I am not in any way affiliated with this store, but can recommend them, great prices and excellent packaging. -
Only tax (VAT) is charged on CDs imported from outside the EU, no import duties or tariffs; previously, there was a threshold of €22, but this is no longer the case.

Based on a few recommendations I decided to get the Percy France Trio CD. In the end iIt cost me quite a bit more than anticipated, with overseas shipping, 21% tax (Dutch VAT) and a handling fee upon arrival. I'm not sure yet whether it was worth the cost, but it's a nice date.

Correct, it's vinyl only in extremely limited quantities, no CDs. The LPs are mastered by Matt Lutthans. The CDs he has done sound great, so I guess the LPs will too. That said, I'm not interested in this series, I'm a CD-only guy.

Sorry to hear this.

👍 Couldn't have said it better. I'll leave it at that.

Sorry to hear that. He was not easy to deal with, but he did help me on several occasions, for which I'm grateful. His reissues were excellent, no exceptions. My favourites are the Basie, Teddy Wilson, Benny Goodman and Lunceford discs; I'm probably forgetting one or two others.

Got the Lyons a while ago from CDJapan and hated the sound, way too loud for my liking. The old needledrop I have sounds better.

Correct. If the set was delivered by FedEx they will send a VAT bill (plus handling fee) some time after delivery.
-
Within the EU only the applicable VAT is due (and probably a handling fee) when importing CDs from outside the EU, and NO import tariffs when the total value of the order exceeds 150 euros. I checked the Dutch tax authority's site but it applies throughout the EU - scroll down to "BTW (VAT) en invoerrechten (tariffs) voor veel gekochte producten" - go to CDs, and there the tariff is 0.

Belgian store TYQMusic is listing the upcoming Bobby Hutcherson Mosaic at a (for EU residents) very attractive price: https://tyqmusic.eu/label/mosaic-records/ Their service and packaging are excellent.

Don Byas Mosaic set available for pre-order
J.A.W. replied to jazzbo's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
You may be in for an unpleasant surprise: if the set was shipped by FedEx they will send you a VAT invoice separately, usually within one or two weeks of delivery. Note that only VAT (21% in the Netherlands) and a handling fee wiil be due, no import duties, CDs are exempt from import duties in the EU. TYQMusic's prices for Mosaic sets are usually lower than Jazz Messengers'. -
Don Byas Mosaic set available for pre-order
J.A.W. replied to jazzbo's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
TYQMusic do not have it in stock. The owner, Mark Steyaert, told me yesterday Mosaic had informed him that something had gone wrong with TYQMusic's order, and it won't be filled until mid- or late January at the earliest. -
Don Byas Mosaic set available for pre-order
J.A.W. replied to jazzbo's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
If you ordered directly from Mosaic there is no VAT included, they do not use the EU IOSS ("Import One Stop Shop") scheme as far as I know. Within the EU you pay VAT on arrival of an order from outside the EU, unless the non-EU seller uses IOSS, in that case VAT is charged at check-out if the total value does not exceed 150 euros, and no VAT is due on arrival. By the way - and this might be of interest to EU residents - Belgian store TYQMusic is currently offering the Byas Mosaic for 189 euros (pre-order) plus shipping. They told me they're expecting the set mid- or late December: TYQMusic
