Oh shit, that's very sad! bummer!! bought some CDs from Mike not that long ago (Ayers, Dean, Trad Dads comp) was a great/esoteric label ps - can you still buy directly from Mike (better the $$ go straight to him)
-
Bullshit Does this mean that you have a copy of this that you can clearly hear the whole band? On the cassette I have, NHOP's bass overloads the mic in a couple of places, It sounds like his mic level is cranked up too much. However, I don't recall Mobley ever coming through clearly. What does come through is great stuff but I can't get past the crappy sound. I'll have to dig out that cassette (and cassette deck) again. Maybe as the years have worn on I can appreciate it more? I gotta dig out my CDRs too, I don't at all recall NHOP overloading the mic and while Hank is somewhat 'distant' not so much that I couldn't enjoy this rare glimpse of, as Michael points out, Hank really stretching out. I agree - have listened to my 3 CDr set (AIFF files made from FLAC's if I can recall) Hank's tenor shines through quite well & the bass is not overpowering

looking forward to this

Sorry to hear this "Break On Through" was being played on the radio when I got into the car this morning - then I heard the news after the song finished I also wasn't aware of his cancer struggle Loved his version of Carmina Burana
-
have been waiting for this release for a while now - even made a request to Hazel a few years ago just made my day
-
I'm particularly interested in the Hipp material It was originally released last year but on LP only - they've now just released a CD version Will get it from Jazz Messengers
-
Oh Yeah!! - would love that Also what about a Gene Norman "Modern Music" set covering his live concerts from the mid-late 40's - that would include a lot of live Wardell No one has attempted a decent retrospective except for sporadic dodgy "boot" releases A good model for this would be the 3CD "Bopland" set that used the original source material
-
picked up the 6CD set last year do like his work (old & new) how well is he known in the UK - is he better known on the continent? (Lithuania)
-
Wolfgang's Vault have released their first LP (CV LP-001) - 180gm vinyl & sounding pretty darn good (warm analogue sound) on my low end system It's available free if you subscribe - Don't think you can buy it outright from the site?
-
The recently released LP (Wolfgang's Vault) version of Monk at Newport, 1959

Oh Yeah!!! - just made my day

Just ordered my copy from Danas (plus the William Parker box, new Evan Parker Trio & the Group "Live")

OK, support for my complaint today about the board's search function. Let's face it, guys, it sux. IPB, are you listening? Yep, I agree I normally search via Google (or other search engine) & insert organissimo with the criteria
-
That's sad - RIP Barbara Have just finished reading "Always In Trouble" Oral Hx of ESP-Disk by Jason Weiss She wasn't interviewed for the book but is mentioned a few times by Sonny Simmons & James Zitro (who I noticed has just become an organissimo member in the last week or so)

EMI utilised "Cactus Data Shield" copy protection (CDS) - 1st commercially produced CDs were released in late 2001 They eventually abandoned this technology in Dec 06 I've only got one of these CDs in my collection (actually a double - The Cookers) kept it for historical interest & was dirt cheap anyway
-
Jazz Messengers (Barcelona) are now stocking the Dutch Jazz Archive Series (at good prices too) singles are 14.87 euros & doubles (new Miles Davis) are 20.65 euros Also if you order more than 60 euros of product, shipping is free (overseas orders)

The Nessa Juggernaut rolls on
romualdo replied to Chuck Nessa's topic in Offering and Looking For...
Chuck, have you ever considered rereleasing AEC's "Les Stances A Sophie" (Nessa 04) (which you licenced from Pathe/EMI France). All of the CD reissues so far have been needle drops - I'm sure you have mentioned in the past that you are in possession of tapes (does that include People In Sorrow - I have a late 80's Japanese CD of this) Too many legal hassles to be worthwhile?? -
Been listening to the new Acrobat 6CD "Complete Tempo 55-59" - very happy with the SQ - wonder where they sourced this from (Jasmine CDs, 1st Proper box)? This is "Hard Bop" of the highest standard - hadn't heard any of this material before - what a revelation!! Simon Spillett's notes are a real bonus - best of luck with his upcoming book Of interest is the fate of the Tempo master tapes - according to Simon they were "disposed of" in the early 60's when Decca junked the Tempo imprint Some of the material had been licenced to Ember (live Dominion 58) who retained the masters In the 80's the Tempo catalogue was reissued by Jasmine who dubbed original vinyl (similarly for the later CD reissues) Not sure how legitimate this set is - there is no mention of remastering details etc - Does Acrobat do their own "ripping"/remastering - like Avid? this is all we have "This compilation ® & © 2012 Acrobat Licensing" (that circled R should be a P) Still, its great to have all of this material together in one lot (luckily I hadn't previously purchased any of this material on individual CDs)

Here's what's available through import-cds (16 titles) http://www.importcds.com/Search/Results?type=200&lbl=snow+dog some on this list appear to be more contemporary I've just ordered/received Bishop's "Coral Keys", Carn's "Spirit Of The New Land" & waiting on Franklin's "The Skipper" though havn't had a chance to listen to any of them yet
