Now if only Blue Note could reissue Larry Young's record; I believe it would fit nicely on one CD with Contrasts. Bertrand.

Did Ornette ever record 'The Idiot'? I wonder if there is a copyright... Bertrand.
-
Mark, When you have a chance to look at this more carefully, could you keep an eye out to see if there is any mention of the copyright deposits at the Library of Congress? I know RK looked at these, but I was not with him that day so I don't know if he saw anything interesting. Of course, this question applies to anyone who receives their copy soon. I plan to buy this, but cheapo that I am, I will wait until I can get a 40% Borders' coupon or get it at Daedalus. I'm not in a hurry - Monk ain't going anywhere Bertrand.

Newbury comics has it for $9.95, but do they ship overseas? Bertrand.

Here are some from the list I would pick up in a heartbeat: The two Bobby Timmons' Buddy Terry's Natural Soul (with Larry Young and Woody Shaw!) Shirley Scott plays Horace Silver Isn't Like Cozy on CD? Bertrand.

If it's been 13 days since the shipping notice, you should call them - something's wrong. Bertrand.

Happy birthday! Bertrand.

Blakey's Soul Finger - help with musician lineup

They put it on Hold On I'm Coming for some reason. Bertrand. -
Stopped by Daedalus on my way to a gig in Baltimore yesterday. They had a lot of the same Oldies titles but for $1 or $ 2 more. I picked up 9 titles in all; the last 3 do not seem to have been carried by Oldies. Bertrand. $6.98 Monk Himself 20-bit Milt Jackson 4tet 20-bit Red Garland's Piano 20-bit Shirley Horn Monterey $5.98 Serenade To A Bus Seat (Keepnews) Nat Adderley: Work Song (Keepnews) Cannonball In NYC (Keepnews) Red Garland Soul Junction (RVG) Lockjaw etc.: Very Saxy (RVG)

I just got the oldies paper catalog. One title they list is 'Miles Davis - Highlights From The Unplugged Nickel'. Bertrand.
-
Ken, Are these different titles at Oldies or more copies of the same ones on the site? My guess is Concord is going to keep dumping them this way, so this 'sale' could go in indefinitely. Bertrand.

2 of the titles in my last order are gone now, for those of you who wanted them: Shirley Scott - Blue Flames Randy Weston - Jazz a la Bohemia Bertrand.

Blakey's Soul Finger - help with musician lineup

I'll add composer credits: Soul Finger (Freddie Hubbard) 1 Buh's Bossa (Lee Morgan) Spot Session (Lucky Thompson) Freedom Monday (Gary Bartz) 2 A Quiet Thing (Kander/Ebb) The Hub (Freddie Hubbard) I don't know about the other two tunes. 1: Credited to Morgan/Hubbard on the record, but copyrighted by Hubbard only. 2: Credited to Art Blakey, but actually by Gary Bartz - it's the same tune as 'Freedom One Day' from Libra. Bertrand. -
Since when does Allen Lowe speak for all of us? Thanks, FFA, for actually answering the question. Bertrand.

It's BLAKEY, not Blakely. Why do people always do this???????????????? Bertrand.
-
Definitely Alfie - a masterpiece. Bertrand.

When the fuck will they put out a DVD of the 60's quintet on its own? I've been good up until now, but I'm tempted to get the boots at this point. I'm not buying this behemoth just to get the DVD. What an insane packaging concept. Bertrand.

I want to get the Hutcherson next. Bertrand.

'Valley Girl' might work.

'Got tickets to see his quartet at the Salle Pleyel in October!' I noticed on their website that this concert is listed as a tribute to Miles Davis. I wonder if that has anything to do with the fact that the 10/29 concert is occurring during the time frame of the exhibit below. Bertrand. Miles Davis – We Want Miles 16 October 2009 to 17 January 2010 Organised with the support of Miles Davis Properties, this exhibition by the Cité de la Musique follows Miles Davis’ musical and personal journey, from his hometown, East St-Louis, to his retrospective concert at La Villette in Paris, just a few weeks before his death. Beginning in the mid Sixties, Miles Davis began printing “Directions in Music by Miles Davis” on his albums, rather than just his name. As a tribute to his visionary approach, visitors can discover each of these “directions” along a pathway displaying photographs taken by the biggest names in musical photography, video excerpts from his concerts, instruments he or his travel companions played, rare scores and stage costumes, documents related to the creation of his albums, original releases of his great records, as well as works of art, paintings and sculptures, testifying to an aura which vastly exceeded the sphere of music. What live music are you going to see tonight?
bertrand replied to mikeweil's topic in Live Shows & Festivals
I went to see the Wallace Roney quintet at Bohemian Caverns tonight. Fantastic gig - his current rhythm section really gets a great groove going. They've added a lot of tunes to the repertoire, including Tony Williams' 'Only With You', which Wallace recorded with Tony. I highly recommend this gig - I will try to go back on Sunday. If you are not in the DC area, you can hear live feeds at www.wallaceroney.com Bertrand. -
