Does Frances still work at the Hamburger Hamlet on Sunset Strip? Bertrand.

Thanks again. I wonder what would have been in the Mosaic? A Mosaic select of non-Blue Note material would have included: The Peace-Maker Choma (Burn) A New Shade Of Blue Damisi (no Hutcherson on this one) and at least one bonus track which was on the long OOP Damisi CD but actually seems to belong to Shade Of Blue. I would buy this in a heartbeat. If they wanted to include the Blue Note sessions, then you would need a big box, and include: Total Eclipse Spiral Medina San Francisco Now! Cirrus Head On and maybe some others? I wonder what their later collaborations are like (Timless All-Stars etc.) I will post something in recommendations later. Bertrand.

Thanks to everyone for their input. Brownie, good to hear from you again! ejp626, what are the timings on the LP liner notes vs. the timings on the CD? Thanks, Bertrand.

It seems the LP track order was: The Peace-Maker (Harold Land) Stylin' (Harold Land) 40 Love (Harold Land) Angel Dance (Harold Land) Time Table (Harold Land) Imagine (Sammy Cahn, Francis Lai) The Aquarian (Harold Land) One for Nini (Harold Land) but the fairly recent Japanese CD seems to have this order: One for Nini The Peace-maker 40 Love Time Table Angel Dance Imagine Stylin' The Aquarian Also, Verve's website claims that it was reissued a couple of years ago domestically - what's up with that? Can anyone confirm that the LP sequence and CD sequence are different? Thanks, Bertrand.

Amazon has them at $13.98 list, and CDU at $11.98. So it seems the Blue Note just dropped the prices on Connoisseurs, period. Can't complain. 40% off made these quite cheap. Bertrand.

They are strict now with the one coupon per customer per visit. I'm sure the system is not programmed to stop you from coming back the next day, or visiting another store. Stock is definitely down in a lot of stores. The guy at the register today assured me they are not stopping selling CDs. They sell a lot of classical CDs to old ladies, although that may just be the D.C. store I was in, which is in a neighborhood stock-piled with rich seniors. Bertrand.

which would not be issued for a few years. But Larry Young was present at the session for In A Silent Way, just a few days after Mother Ship. I've speculated on the possibility of Larry having slipped Miles a tape before. No one has yet to disprove my theory, unless they can prove that it was impossible back then for an artist to walk out of a session at the RVG studios with a tape of the session.

There's a private recording of a radio broadcast of Joe Chambers at Birdland which is announced by Schaap. Schaap argues with Joe for a couple of minutes about whether or not the first tune they did was 'All Or Nothing At All'. It is very recognizable, but for some reason old Phil just missed it, probably because he wasn't actually paying attention. It's hilarious. Bertrand.

LF: JAZZ AT THE OPERA HOUSE
bertrand replied to ghost of miles's topic in Offering and Looking For...
I heard some of this once, and I think it was out on a Japanese CD (too pricey when I saw it in France). I wish I had it as well. There are so few Hutcherson/Shorter dates. They could still do something together...Toss in Joe Chambers and I would be in Nirvana. Also the only recording of Wayne with Wynton Marsalis -
Miles Davis has some legit releases?

My dad passed away today...

Jim, I am so sorry to hear this very sad news. My thoughts are with you and your family tonight. Bertrand. -
'Another one of my students'. Bertrand.

Going from memory, I think the Forrest tune is 'Sunkenfoal'. I'll check tonight for sure. Bertrand.

The Lazar piece is 'Mad Lad'. I'll have to listen to the Forrest another day. I also believe Grant Green's 'Grantstand' (the title track to that record) is identical to another piece from the Forrest sessions. Bertrand.

There was a thread a while back about how one of the tunes on Sam Lazar's Space Flight is the same as a tune on Jimmy Forrest's All The Gin Is Gone. I did a search but I can't find it. A whole bunch of unrelated posts show up. I guess I don't know how to search. Can anyone help me find it? Thanks, Bertrand.

Yes, that was the registration I was referring to. Since it is a PAu registration, I was not able to pull it for the jazz copyright project. I wish I knew what it was. One approach would be if someone from his estate wanted a copy, they would do that (for a fee). Bertrand.

The birth year is the same. Was our John Patton's middle initial 'E'? Bertrand. http://cocatalog.loc.gov/cgi-bin/Pwebrecon...=4266&SID=1

I'm guessing it's some bizarre mistake... http://www.bordersstores.com/search/title_...rchType=Keyword

IT'S A GIRL, YAY!!!!! (Pt. II!)

Congratulations!!! Bertrand. -
Jackie McLean seems to imply in the liner notes of Destination...Out! that it was his idea to open the record with a ballad. Works perfectly. Bertrand.

Has the repertoire for this concert been chosen already? Should be a great gig, but I don't think I will be able to go. Bertrand.

I don't think I have the version of the CD, so I'm pretty sure I've never seen this weird photo before. It's from '85, bit it looks like it was taken in the 70s. Let's ID all nine: Top row, left to right: Cecil Taylor, Freddie Hubbard, Bobby Hutcherson Middle row, left to right: Michel Petrucciani, Herbie Hancock, Lou Donaldson Bottom row, left to right: ? (not Mobley), Jackie McLean, Jimmy Smith Bertrand. P.S.: Taylor is almost unrecognizable. The one on the bottom could be Stanley Turrentine, I suppose. Looking at the discography of who was at the gig, I don't see who else it could be.
