  1. Folks, it probably goes without saying, but I'll say it anyways: buy with confidence from Jon! I bought four discs from him on Tuesday, and they got here faster than the Amazon order I placed last week!!! Thanks again, Jon!
  2. I liked Pink Floyd before classic-rock radio played the hell out of their songs. "Run Like Hell" will always be a favorite, though, no matter how many times its played. Animals is okay, but I always liked the insistency of side one ("Dogs" I think?). Meddle is my all-time favorite. "One of these days I'm going to cut you into little pieces!!!" I saw the Pompeii video in high school; need to see it again!
  3. Hell, I know that would happen with me.
  4. Way to go, Dan! Maybe you could put that on your next Blindfold Test, just to see who's been paying attention! And for two dollars!!! You could run through the neighborhood like that kid from Better Off Dead, screaming TWO DOLLARS!!!
  5. Totally agree. Would that we were NOT a society of folks who always need to have the last word and just can't let anything go!
  6. May your birthday be blessed with some rare unreleased Andrew Hill recording! Assuming you don't have them all already!
  7. Same thing w/Blues Brothers and Blues Brothers 2000. ....and Caddyshack and Caddyshack 2.
  8. That's me, btw, in case some are not aware of it. You're all welcome to bring me some love. First thing would be to stick together a bit... (thanks to John B!) Oh. Hi Flurin! I've always known you as the King. I don't think you're a bully. Your loyal subject, AB Here comes some love... Thanks Jeff! I can really need it. I'm feeling awfully cold at this moment. Dude, what Dan said is totally appropriate: calilng you a bully is like calling Aric a well-adjusted mature adult. Just because one, ONE, nitwit calls you a "bully" sure-as-hell doesn't make it so.
  9. Honestly? I think Jim should shut the place down. Give us all thirty days to find a new home to post, and then lock the doors for good. I say this out of genuine concern for Jim's state of being, his health, his sanity, and his family. How can you run this place and NOT have some (if not a bunch) of this stuff affect you on a day-to-day basis? I sure wouldn't want that kind of responsibility, nor could I even fathom handling it. This is still a great place, but ultimately it's Jim's place, and I would think that the human condition, no matter how tough or resilient, can only take so much of this abuse on a day-to-day basis.
  10. What, no one remembers Aric's famous bit of wisdom from this thread? Can't believe people actually miss this guy and his so-called "knowledge." Good call on Jim's part, if it hasn't been said already.
  11. Wow, I may never need my meds again!
  12. I'm like Sangrey, I respect and appreciate Brubeck more than I care to actually listen to him. But one thing I truly enjoy about his music is his sense of humor, and I wonder how much of that was inspired by Desmond's presence? I mean, you can truly hear how much they enjoy playing together. Having said that, the Carnegie Hall CD is an absolute MONSTER of an album!!!!
  13. Dude, in my book you are soulGREEEEEAZER1; hell, I should be asking if I can still play drums in your Funky Ass Trio!
  14. 1. Kids Are Pretty People 2. Beautiful music trumps everything else. 3. Except for brotherly love. 4. Lord, I Want to Be a Christian Just based on what I've heard and read
  15. As well as being populated by those who feel that the "banned" should never have been banned in the first place. One imagines that the talk of SACDs would be pretty prominent over there.....
  16. You hit the nail on the head there, my friend.
  17. The nice thing about jazz is that you can pretty much start with any album and it will take you in all sorts of other directions! With that in mind, I can unequivocally recommend Miles Davis' Kind of Blue. They don't call it a "masterpiece" for nothing!
  18. I'm just kidding of course!
  19. I can make a CDR of it for you!
  20. Welcome to the Board, Rob; know that you are surrounded by folks who are nuts for your dad’s music! There are plenty of threads around here discussing his music. In fact, if you look at the Blindfold Test threads, you’ll see that there were three or four consecutive BFTs with at least one song by your dad! (My BFT had him playing the piano! Fooled a few people, letmetellyou!) Man, mikeweil’s gonna flip when he sees you posting here! He’s probably the biggest fan of your dad’s music on this Board, as evidenced by his avatar! Funny you should start posting here, as I was listening to Los Ritmos Calientes, Black Orchid,, and Latino yesterday. I always loved it when your dad got together with Mongo and Willie. Oh the fireworks those guys generated!!! Anyway, I hope you’ll stay awhile and post some more! Any memories of your dad would be greatly appreciated by everyone here, I’m sure. His music certainly gave the impression that he was as you describe him!
  21. Yeah, I read that. For me, that holds true for Rockin'; never could warm up to that one. But Prayer Meetin' is more great in-the-pocket grooves, and as you pointed out, this is a prime era of JOS. Couldn't tell you why one session sounds better to these ears than the other!
  22. One month later, nothing's really changed. Al, without doing any research at Jazzmatazz, my first thought is that the situation you describe relates more to the major record labels than it does to the Music Club. Since the majors have gotten out of the jazz business for the most part, BMG needs to do some new deals with some of the smaller labels. The stream is drying up! I'm sure you're correct. I guess no one's buying the Fantasy SACD hybrids, RVGs, Conns, and other worthy reissues. I would've thought the market would've been greater for that, certainly moreso than Jeff Lorber's latest!
