  1. Finally got around to hearing this. Wow what a gorgeous album. Im still of the mind that Dusk is one of the top two or 3 jazz releases of the past decade, and I won't be surprised if the makes my top 5. Amazing music yet again from a brilliant musician. I know he is considered a jazz legend, but in my mind Andrew Hill is still underrated.
  2. I usually get a 'lay of the land' and try to get through a whole box, and then focus disc by disc, and usually song by song. I feel 2 or 3 good listens will get you about 90% the way there on understanding and evaluating the music. Its the next 300 times that fills up the reaminaing 10%. Sometimes 10 seconds is all you need to know if something is BAD though, and thats all i need to know the cellar door was nothin but bad ass motherfuckers playin their asses off. (as miles would say)
  3. Who was the Michael Franti of yesterday's rap scene? I saw the movie and enjoyed it alot. The performances were a bit weak at time because the show went on for hours. ?uestlove was awesome throughout on drums though. I LOVE the fact that Chapelle is showing an entire generation of people that actual rap music exists, and that Nelly candy wrap stuff is garbage.
  4. Oh I am serious. Apparently Kenny wanted to improve his jazz cache. The best part is the live action remake of the cover with Kenny playing every character. Ok, im not serious.
  5. You can download a lossless version of some Kenny G right here: http://torrentreactor.net/view.php?id=5371164
  6. no, its 6.6666666666666666666666666666667 thats not the number of the beast, thats just the Bush administration. so maybe you have a point...
  7. First time I've seen these grouped. Then you havent heard the new Kenny G where he lays tracks over On the Corner.
  8. it doesnt say anything negative about Norah, itll probably stay up for a long time.
  9. Only players in there first two seasons can be sent to the D league. Darko was in his third. As for stackhouse, I dont think he was a headcase, he had actually greatly changed his style to help the team win. It was just that he wasnt clutch in the playoffs, and that he was going to demand a max deal in Detroit, and Joe D didnt think he was worth it. I loved the Rip trade the day it happened, especially with the age difference.
  10. You mean Arrested Development practically invented TV???? Wow. Yes.
  11. Darko had 12 pts, 8 rebs, and 4 blocks last night, including 4 pts in a key stretch that won the game for Orlando. He is shooting 55 percent for Orlando, and he is a blocking machine. Great win by the Pistons though, showing the Mavs and the Heat who's boss recently. Cant wait for the finals.
  12. Tragedy strikes, show creator Mitchel Hurvitz bails, almost certainly ending the series. http://www.variety.com/article/VR111794046...17&cs=1&s=h&p=0 A few weeks ago there were internet rumors of a 2 episode run on Showtime. Quite a terrible turn for the worse.
  13. Another board I post on does the yourmusic thing. To my knowledge you only get paid for new member accounts, which would be fairly rare at this point. Of course, we could all discontinue our memberships and just resign up through organissimo...
  14. Yeah, I'd say she's not so bad. Her dancing in her underwear was easily the best part of the season so far.
  15. Pete Sims and Pete LaRoca Dollar Brand and Abdullah Ibrahim Larry Young and Khalid Yasin

    New Miles Box?

gdogus is just trying to say that Round About Midnight is essentially a 'part' of these recordings. Not that it SHOULD be in the box, but that it is without a doubt an important part of the collection and IDEALLY would be included, although OBVIOUSLY it cant be. A general lamentation that I agree with completely.
  17. How about this: I don't own a single Mosaic set. I figure thats the worst possible sin on this site.
  18. That makes one of us! Of course, no Basie and 20+ Jarrett on my part might seem a bit odd.
  19. Just finished Portnoy's Complaint by Philip Roth. Definitely and interesting read. Are all his books different? or does he maintain a similar style? I cant imagine he would. For something completely different I am reading The Creation of the American Republic by Gordon Wood. Great book that absolutely made history change on its axis. Too bad a couple more people in power dont read it as well.
  20. i gotta say jim, your avatar change may have been the biggest downgrade in internet history.
  21. Not much of the the pre-Bebop guys. No Basie. Only a box each of Duke and Satchmo (hot 5s and 7s, blanton webster band), both criminally unlistened to. (well not UNlistened to, but definitely not enough.) Also low on vocalists, a couple Billie and Ella, one Sinatra, thats it. Otherwise im pretty proud of the small collection I have been able to accumalate over about 8-9 years of jazz fandom. Not a lot of depth, but the bredth (girth?) is there!
  22. By errors and perceptions, I meant fundamentally unrealistic and inaccurate to the human experience. If you will.
  23. http://www.ezarchive.com/pugarros/AlbumSpa...COWBOYS_RAP.mp3 Im sure most of you have thought 'I wish I could hear T.O. rap about becoming a Cowboy and making money.' Here is your lucky day!
  24. I think the fact that I 'get it' is precisely the problem. While Brokeback may have flaws, are those flaws central to the entire film? The film is at heart simply a painful love story, any errors outside of that arent very essential. Crash is filled with errors of character and perceptions of race, the very heart of the film. I would still reccomend anyone seeing, just to see what the fuss is about. The script itself was a good first draft, and a fatnastic middle school play. But it is so far from being actually relevant that it is painful. Even Don Cheadle remarked that some of the writing for blacks was insulting and inaccurate, but he chose to do the film in spite of that.
  25. I dont really remember Zack talking about his personal oppression much, if ever. And ive read a ton of his interviews. Regardless, lyrics like this show a great deal of poetic and political skill. One of the few coherent songs about the most recent Iraq War.
