  1. The Paul Horn Quintet was recorded in a March 10, 1958 session on the "Stars of Jazz" TV series show #88. This session was released on Calliope LP CAL-3034. James Harrod's new book "Stars of Jazz" gives detail biographical information and a discography of that session.

  9. With the stay at home situation now would be a great time to enter your 3x5 cards into an excel spreadsheet. Each card would be a record. It would take a lot of time but in the long run it would be worth it.
  10. Entering a collection onto an excel spread-sheet is quite easy. It would take a lot of time if you have a large collection but the benefits after you are done are terrific. The capability of excel to sort any column is very useful. At a minimum you could enter artist, title, and label in each of 3 columns. Additional columns could include source such as CD, CDR, LP, Cassette. Secondary artists could also be listed in separate columns. I find this very useful because some albums have more than one principal artist or for a particular artist that I follow. I also have a column for notes about the album that I want to save.
  11. Frank Rehak LP Dawn DLP-1107 titled "Jazzville vol.2" is reissued on Dawn CD DCD-114 titled "Jazzville".
  12. I use an excel spread-sheet for my 4,000 CD/CDR collection. I can sort by Artist, Title, Label. For liner notes, etc I have to go to my shelves. Other than excel I have not downloaded any thing to hard drives, etc.

  14. Candoli Brothers and Leroy Vinnegar.
  15. My favorite Tower Records store was in Washington, DC. It was a 2-storey store with the second floor all jazz. Also liked the Tower Records store in New Orleans with a great jazz CD selection.
  16. I am looking for the name of the arrangers for 2 of Woody's songs on "The Band That Plays The Blues" recorded in 1941 and 1942. The songs are: "String Of Pearls" and "Las Chiapanecas". The whole session was released on several Decca 78's and subsequently on LP and CD. I have identified 3 candidates but do not know if they arranged the 2 subject songs. They are Deane Kincaid, James "Jiggs" Noble and Lowell Martin. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  17. Bob Dubbs- piano player- 2 LPs from this Cleveland-based quartet/trio. Recorded in 1967.
  18. Ken Dryden- I would like to see your review of the Hall book.
  19. I would like to read a copy of your review. Can you post it here?
  20. How does this book compare to "It's About Time" book by Fred M. Hall published in 1996? Since I own that book is this new one a worthwhile addition?
