I suppose that means you'll finally be selling this baby: Dibs!
-
I like many of his recordings, including this early one: RIP Mr. Curson, and thanks.
-
Steve, Thanks for taking the time to come up with those corrections.

Jazz isn't dead, it just smells funny. Ironically, Zappa is now both.

Hopefully, the difference in prices is manufacturer's list versus discounted retail. In some cases, however, retailers may lure prospective buyers to their store with an incredible deal that cannot be fulfilled in hopes that they will purchase something. Why not phone the retailer you found and inquire more about the quality of the cabinets and find out if they can actually get the product. I seriously doubt this seller, or any of the others I found offering these cabinets at the same price, have any items in stock. More likely, they order directly from the manufacturer on an "as needed" basis. Good luck.

Based on appearance and product number, I believe this cabinet is made by another Canadian company: Carr McLean Some retail sites offer the following dimensions on the 3-drawer unit: 20 1/2"H x 37 1/2"L x 20"D. Although they claim it can hold 855 CDs, the manufacturer says each drawer holds 180 CDs, for a total of 540.

You neglected to include these statements from the notice: The Cobalt-60 levels in the affected products are far below State and Federal regulatory limits. All of the expert testing conducted on these products to date indicates that there is no health risk to the public, to our associates or to pets. The Illinois state government did its own testing and issued a news release stating that “a person would have to hold one of the bowls against their chest for roughly six and a half days to receive a dose of radiation equivalent to a single chest X-ray,” and that “these bowls do not pose an immediate health risk.” ...very few affected items were actually sold to consumers. We are working to contact those customers to inform them of the situation and to retrieve those particular bowls....Customers who purchased these products between the dates of May 31 and June 20, 2012, should bring it to their local Petco store for a full refund. If you have any questions, please call Petco Customer Service at 877-738-6742.

I'm very sorry to hear of Ware's passing. I wasn't open to his music at first, but I took the time to open my ears and learned to really appreciate his art. I had the good fortune to see Ware perform a few times in NYC. I'll enjoy those memories and his recordings for many years to come.
-
Given his lack of originality, perhaps it's better to think of Wynton being reissued, rather than born, today.
-
I don't believe so. Shame, 'cause it's a good one.
-
Honestly, I don't know of anyone who fits this description. I do listen intently to artists who often play with fierce intensity, such as Cecil Taylor, later Coltrane, Kidd Jordan, Albert Ayler, etc. Is it difficult to listen to such raw emotion for long periods of time? Of course it is, but that's because there's so much there to be heard, and it's not dressed up all nice and pretty to make it more palatable. I have similar experiences working with trauma survivors whose narratives can be very raw, urgent and emotional. It can leave you feeling drained, but again, it's because of the outpouring of human experience and honest emotion. My reaction to much of Wynton's music is just the opposite. I hear impressive technique, but also cold, calculating expressions of "what jazz is supposed to sound like". If all you hear are shrieks, groans and berserk wailing from free players, then we're obviously coming from different directions and seeking different experiences. That's cool.
-
That's why I became less interested in SD starting with Aja.
-
One can speak with excellent grammar, syntax and enunciation without saying anything.
-
I'm glad that you enjoy his music, really I am. Please accept the fact that his playing leaves some of us cold and his music politics have been cause for feelings of resentment.
-
To my ears, what you call "emotional screaming" is music that is much more than what Wynton and his ilk have to offer.
-
A tad smooth, peppy, and neat for my tastes. I like some grit in my cup o' jazz.
-
Or, I respectfully suggest that people who find no value in such discussions avoid them altogether. Try that.
-
Seems to fit - can't you guys get over this shit? Q I don't think there's anything for us to "get over". A lot of us don't like Wynton, what he's done, and what he stands for. Perhaps it's Wynton's fans who need to "get over" the fact that not everyone shares their adulation for the man.
-
Just to be clear, this recording was originally released on Ornette Coleman's label, Artist House (AH 6).
