Imo, Armando peaked 35 years ago.

Cats are smart, interesting, and a lot of fun to have around. They're also functional!
-
I'll take honest and ethical over friendly and knowledgeable anyday.

I didn't see that on their Movie Gold page. Did you get a CD-R, maybe taken from a Japanese CD? Or are these perhaps needle-drops, i.e. taken from vinyl? If you click on the individual titles in the OP's link, "[CD-R]" is the first thing you see in the description.
-
And they're CDrs.

I enjoyed their services for a couple of years, but quit some time ago because of the onslaught of budget titles from european labels with dubious masterings. It was like wading through aisles of bargain bins in the hopes of finding one or two things of interest. At my age, it's better not to waste time and instead pay a little more at amazon or itunes.

Double yawn for those bashing this post-Grammy show that bashes the Grammy show.
-
Are you thinking of specific titles that have never been reissued?

And for nothing else, imo. Her hit records contain some of the most inane lyrics I've heard recently, a view shared by quite a few of my adolescent clients. If there's any truth in advertising left, her inevitable compliation will be entitled, "Katy's Greatest Tits".

It would appear that you're not alone.

I don't know if I'd call GaGa "a marvelous keyboardist and vocalist", but I do like some of what I've seen and heard thus far. Rather than merely "ripping off" Madonna's music, I think she's a talented artist who's picked up the torch and carried it further in terms of celebrating diversity. More power to her! Oh, and one more thing. Given your checkered history on this board, I find it ironic that you should be calling someone else a troll.

The Grammys is about the industry, not the music. Always has been, always will. Imo, this annual criticism of an awards show is more nonsensical than anything the Grammys purports to be. Now if you want to talk about music, I'm all ears.

With all due respect to Mr. Priester, whom I'm sure is a wonderful instructor, we're not talking about his having a chaired-position at a major university. Although Cornish has been around awhile, it's a very small college (833 students) devoted solely to the performing and visual arts, offering only bachelor's degrees to it's graduates. I doubt they have much money to speak of, and cannot rely on large alumni contribuitions to boost their revenues. Bear in mind that Berklee, a 4,000-student institution, ended it's pension plan for new employees last year in favor of a 401(K)-style retirement plan.

One reason not to delete this thread is that it helps to dispel a rumor that was carelessly spread by the OP. People searching the Internet for news about Priester can see this discussion (or a cached version, even if it is deleted). At least in its present form, they will also see the correction. This is one more reason why members should not post obituaries until they obtain independent verification. Gioia's tweet, or other people merely quoting it, does not constitute independent verification. While I do not question the OP's love for Priester's music, his incredibly frequent habit of creating new threads by merely cut-and-pasting some other source is personally frustrating and in this case, has had a negative impact on the community. I hope this unnecessarily disquieting situation here causes him to rethink this practice.

I especially like the quintet dates he co-led with Pepper Adams. Thank you sir, and rest in peace.

Family "situations" are always difficult. Too bad Bugnon felt the need to make this one public.

Although this item first appeared on a blog three days ago, there is no reliable corroboration to be found. Out of respect for the artist, his family and friends, could we please refrain from further speculation for now to avoid spreading the rumor and causing unecessary worry and grief?

crap of the week: gwen stefani

How ironic. A thread criticizing someone for lacking creativity and originality, which itself is nothing more than a word-for-word, cut-and-paste job of a blog entry written by someone else. -

I accept the cautiousness that's been exhibited on the board over the past year because as I understand it, the goal has been to protect our hosts, i.e., Jim and the "O" band. At times, some have dismissed the potential risks they might face as highly unlikely or minor at worst. One never knows, however, and this kind of argument strikes me as being rather selfish and disrespectful. I have no problem asking certain questions or sharing some types of information to other members privately, especially if it helps preserve the board's integrity. It's just good citizenship, imo.

CINCINNATI — Leroy "Sugarfoot" Bonner, frontman for the hit-making funk music band the Ohio Players, has died. He was 69. The Ohio Players, known for their brassy dance music, catchy lyrics and flamboyant outfits, topped music charts in the 1970s with hits such as "Love Rollercoaster," "Fire," "Skin Tight" and "Funky Worm." It will be released on the Engine Studios label. Their catalog of CDs and downloads is available on BandCamp (a personal favorite of mine), CDBaby, and most of the majors. Check out some of their other offerings, including titles by Fred Anderson, Kidd Jordan, Warren Smith, Andrew Lamb, and William Hooker with Sabir Mateen: Engine Studios
