  2. I guess Herbie should know. He used to play jazz.
  3. A smiles is a curve that sets everything straight - Phyllis Diller Rest in peace, and thanks for setting us straight.
  4. Personally, I'm glad to see the RVG remasters go. Aside from some of the early stuff (Miles Vol. 1 & 2, Monk's Genius Vol. 1 & 2, Eminent J.J., and a few others) I never did care for those things.
  5. Picked up Loren Stillman's 1997 debut on Soul Note featuring Russ Lossing for only $3.23.
  6. Amazon Local offers $3 MP3 Credit Towards Any MP3 Album $5.99 or more for Free. Click on this link and buy a free voucher worth $3. You'll receive a receipt for the purchase via email. Clicking on the link in the email takes you to "your vouchers" on amazon's website where you'll get a personal code, then enter that code like we've done in the past. Sure it's a few extra steps, but it's $3! Promotional credits must be redeemed by September 2nd.Sorry, U.S. customers only.
  7. It took me less than 10 minutes to find lossless versions of all the Sun Ra titles in that box on the Internet. Why should I pay someone else?
  8. whom are you quoting?
  9. Past trauma or neurological conditions can make it difficult to train individual dogs, but it isn't true that "pugs can't be trained". No offense, but the problem probably lies in your methods. 99% of effective training is teaching owners how to behave. As to the OP's question, my two cats have never displayed obvious distaste for any of the music they've heard. With names like Max Roach and Sonny Rollins, I guess this isn't surprising. Of course, I've never subjected them to smooth jazz. I'd conduct an experiment to test this possibility, but APA guidelines for ethical research prohibit me from doing so.
  10. It has been, and continues to be, a way of marketing female artists. I'm interested to see if any board members strongly object to this approach, given the fact that the "sexiest album covers" thread is currently 242 pages long, with 9,669 replies and 425,089 views.
  11. Dominic Greene: You should know something about me and the people I work with. We deal with the left and the right, dictators or liberators. If the current president had been more agreeable, I wouldn't be talking to you. So if you decide not to sign, you'll wake up with your balls in your mouth and your willing replacement standing over you. If you doubt that, then shoot me, take that money and have a good night's sleep. Yeah, a real sweet guy.
  12. That's my understanding as well. A numeric code is entered to make it region 1, region 2, etc. All you're doing is entering the code for "region free".
  13. The last two Bond films starring Daniel Craig are great, imo. Forget Moore, Dalton, Brosnan and any notions of 007 as a witty, elegant gentleman (a lethal Noel Coward?). Bond is a spy: an intelligent, resourceful, rugged individual. I never thought I'd be interested in (much less entertained by) a Bond movie again, but Casino Royale and Quantum Solace are smart, action-filled suspense films that are well worth seeing.
  14. how much for the snuff?
  15. As I understand it, many low-cost dvd players can be made "region-free" simply by entering a numerical sequence via the remote control. Codes for specific players can be found online, with some sites offering the codes for free, while others asking for a donation. I suggest you shop for dvd players, then do a search to see if the code for that model is available.
  16. The New York Sessions is a popular title on jazz-oriented P2P share blogs. The six tunes found on the original Fontana LP Tubbs In N.Y. are included in a recent digital download release called Introducing Tubbs / Tubbs in NY (Deluxe Edition), along with 9 tracks from Introducing and 3 tunes from 1961's Palladium Jazz Date (Fontana TFL 5151).
  17. Is there a point you'd like to make or an opinion you want to express about this topic?
  18. Why not order directly from the artist? I've purchased all of my DG music from Dennis himself.
  19. I'm sure I'm not the only one who used to spend an entire afternoon traveling from one record store to another, hunting for rare, oop cds, or just titles on a long "want list". I used to call them "CD safaris" - remember them, Kevin? Hell, I think I even met Kevin for the first time in the Boston Tower Records store, only to see him again an hour later in the other local Tower as we both rummaged through a stack of discounted Japanese BNs. During these quests, you'd inevitably see familiar faces of like-minded jazz fans, and run into local musicians, critics, and colorful characters. Sadly, those days are gone. I only go to one record store now, and that's Jacks. Everything's online, and mostly downloads. Oh well, I've still got my memories, as long as my memory holds out, that it.
  20. Why not indeed? 24/192 Music Downloads ...And Why They Make No Sense
  21. That might appeal to some folks, but not to me. Spending as much, and in some cases possibly more, for downloads compared to a physical product is counter-intuitive and makes little business sense. I fully accept Chuck's decision not to offer downloads, although I personally don't agree with his assessment that they are necessarily "inferior". When I play my Nessa recordings, I'm not focusing on the sound, I'm experiencing the music, and I don't believe that mp3s prevent me from enjoying them in any way. But maybe that's just me. Anyway, it's been awhile since I placed an order with Chuck, so I'm going to buy a title or two from him. Although I rarely buy CDs anymore, a "Nessa" is always a good investment.
  22. Sorry you're being hassled in this manner, Chuck, but I do wish your stuff was available for download.
