How about a blues tune for the Organissimo trio with Randy on harmonica and vocals: "I tried to log in to the organissimo forums, but the server let me down!" .....

The original LP had most of the bass and drums solos edited out and only four tracks - the two CD reissues had the complete concert and all tracks restored to full length - anything else would suck! There once was a French CBS CD of the old LP - forgettable. Oliver Nelson was not the perfect choice for arranging Monk's compositions ...

Finally got me a copy from Zweitausendeins for € 59,99 - an unexpected tax refund made it possible. Now I'll have to dig my way through these excentric soundscapes ...

I have Japanese reissue LPs of both, in pristine sound ..... (you get the idea?)

AFAIK, "Kean" was some broadway show. (Paul beat me to it!) I guess the liner notes will tell me more - after many years of search I finally located a copy of the LP. Cross your fingers it is graded correctly!

"Lost" implies it was known of and looked for - is this the case? Sure sounds like Wes - should be the band with his brothers. Or a very early Melvin Rhyne appearance on the organ tracks? One should ask him. This is my post # 11.111 - would be taken as a good omen by carnival freaks over here!

Can someone here with the O'Day Verve Mosaic do me a favor? There was an album with Cal Tjader recorded at three sessions. I have the single CD reissue and the discographical details from the Mosaic website, but in the cause of clearing all details in Tjader's discography, we noticed that: --- there are timbales played on half of the tracks, but not mentioned in the notes or sources mentioned above. That's Johnny Rae playing them, that's certain, and Wilfredo "Changuito" Vicente, who wasn't credited on the original LP issues, plays congas. Is there any mention of timbales in the session notes of the Mosaic booklet? --- The original liner notes say Tjader swapped roles with Johnny Rae on some tracks, returning to his first instrument, the drum set. Does the Mosaic mention that? Tjader is credited for also playing drums on the Verve CD reissue, without specifying tracks. The easiest would be if someone could scan the respective passages from the Mosaic booklet and e-mail them to me. Thanks a lot in advance - you'll be credited in the disco when it goes online later this year - the Tjader biography a friend of mine is working on should be finished at the end of this year as well, so your help will be greatly appreciated!

I had the LP and sold it - a little over-produced, IMHO. Large background ensemble, strings on some tracks IIRC, and aimed at the same audience that bought Milton Nascimento's LPs of the day. Not comparable to his Bossa Nova Bachanal on Blue Note, which was an intimate affair, in comparison. For Rouse completists.

That's a good price - I have this in my Thorens TD-160 turntable and it sounds better than several more expensive cartridges I have tried over the years.

That was often the case with "rainbow" series LPs - I sold them all after the CDs were out as they sounded better in every case!

I have to check the 20 LP "Bird Box" on my shelves for this ...
