I love 'The Sermon'. Once the leader dates are sorted...

Thanks everyone, interesting and useful observations. I'm erring towards the Tone Poet plus option at the moment but not wholly sold on that option. I'm more interested in getting the leader dates at this juncture and have CDs of 'Street Singer' and 'Jackie's Bag'.

I've decided it's time for me to sort out Tina Brooks on vinyl. So do I buy the Mosaic box or with the arrival of the two Tone Poets i'm now wondering whether the best move is to buy them and hunt down the best sounding versions of 'Minor Move' and 'True Blue', probably the Kings. Interestingly the cost of doing either is roughly the same. anyone out there with the relevant versions wish to advise...thanks
  7. I've recently invested in all volumes of these sessions. Starting with the digital ones until I'm reunited with my turntable.

  11. I'm intrigued to see what they do with Joni. Part of me wishes it was going to be instrumental but I enjoy Wright's debut album so will listen with interest

  15. Check a couple of messages upthread for your answer to that
  16. One of his best songs 'On The Nickle'
  17. Which novel would you recommend to someone who hasn't read anything by him? 'Lonesome Dove' was the one most popular in my library working days.
  18. That Lehman is fine. I thought some of Steve Coleman's attempts to marry the genres worked. Then from the other perspective the use of Jazz elements by the likes of Gang Starr, ATCQ, Digable Planets, Common all worked well for me at the time, during my only real flirtation with hip hop.
  19. Now onto this with thanks to Peter Friedman for posting it earlier
  20. Such a great album
  21. I'm not sure it necessarily does. It could indicate that NHS staff were readily available, on site with the vaccine stores and therefore it made sense to double-dose them. However, given this government's woeful record I'm also awaiting a second-dose cock up.
  22. I know what he means but it wasn't an issue for me. I quite liked that it wasn't a combination of those disparate identities but a coming together of some elder statesmen who were prepared to use their own voice to create a whole that was different to each of their own more readily identifiable musical identities. Perhaps that means it's very much an ECM album but I'm not sure such strong personalities would do that unless they wanted to so I don't hear the evil hand of Manfred that some might. I also very much like the follow-up with Wadada
  23. I haven't looked for edge from Frisell for about twenty years, he's a comfy pair of slippers now. I'm listening to the album again and I'm enjoying it a lot maybe because ECM-ness has never been a barrier for me, more often a doorway. this looks interesting
