  1. LondonJazzNews and Gary Crosby both reporting this sad news. He made it to 100 and made some great music along the way http://garycrosbybass.com/
  2. They've been releasing consistently high quality sessions since the move to France from Sweden. Unsurprisingly an emphasis on French musicians
  3. Gorgeous George will be proud of you, Buoying the economy with reckless pension spending (or very well deserved celebratory treat) I'm sure love will endure.....
  4. That's certainly got me thinking about how best to maximise streaming. Sounds like it's really hitting the spot. they have a nice record label too
  5. Alexander Von Schlippenbach, Evan Parker, Paul Lovens - Detto Fra Di Noi, Live in Pisa 1981 [Po Torch] the third new arrival's debut play. This is possibly my favourite 'band' in Jazz and improvised music. Pleased to finally afford a copy of this which doesn't disappoint
  6. Andre Jaume - Saxanimalier [Hat Hut] Heinz Becker, Louis Sclavis, John Lindberg - Transistion [FMP] two recent arrivals getting their first airing. The Jaume has a very impressive bass clarinet piece and 'Transition' owes something to Giuffre to these ears
  7. Thanks for posting. Been a while since I ordered from them but have always got great service and music when I have. Just ordered the Lyons box (finally) and a few others. Let's hope they pull through
  8. 'Synthesis' always surprises me when I play it. just finished Steve Lacy - Evidence [Prestige] now, just broken the seal on today's arrival Steve Lacy - Clinkers [Hat Hut]
  9. Track 2 is an ECM recording but I can't pinpoint it yet. If it isnt, it should be I need track 15 in my home! I hope it's not from some dreadfully obscure LP
  10. Looking forward to this. Your last one was fun, educational ........ and expensive
  11. This Is England 90. episode 3. Peerless
  12. Peter Brotzmann Octet - Machine Gun [FMP] Peter Brotzmann, Peeter Uuskyla - Red Cloud On Silver [Omlott] Marshall Allen, Kash Killion - Two Stars in the Universe [Little Rocket]
  13. Indeed. I urge everyone to hear the posthumous trio date with Roy Campbell and Luther Gray 'Invisible Resonance Trio' on Creative Music Nation. Especially if you enjoy 'Tribal Ghost'
  14. Richard Powers - Orfeo Powers writes beautifully about music (classical) and the frustrated composer's lot in a novel that also takes in bio terrorism and homeland security. Glad I picked it up prompted by remembering how much I'd enjoyed his "The Time Of Our Singing" (also music themed) many years ago
  15. Sounds like The Thing. Glad you enjoyed them. Overdue a visit to London
  16. Roscoe Mitchell, Tony Marsh, John Edwards - Improvisations [ OtoRoku]
  17. I blame Corbyn personally as for the barbarians storming the walls of Castle Prog, I knew you were joking. One man's Year Zero is another's misty nostalgia trip. Don't get me started on that R4 programme....... It would be interesting to look back at Peel's playlists for 75-78 and see how much of a complete break there was or whether some lines of continuity did exist. I fear a bit for the book but I'm not too sure why. l hope I'm wrong. I'm fairly certain Peel's self-deprecation (which I took to be honest) would mean he'd shudder at the subtitle
  18. Some of us were part of 'the enemy' but didn't necessarily see it that way. It was just the music of our teenage years - Misty in Roots, Heptones and Fela Kuti alongside Pere Ubu and others, great times
  19. and side 2 again because it's that good
  20. Leo Smith - Human Rights [Kabell/Gramm]
  21. All Blacks should beat any team ......but there in lies the joy of such a competition. Which team will stop them and at which point in the competition?
  22. Order restored. Scotland assert their supremacy with clinical (eventually) approach. Too many errors from Japan gave themselves no real chance. They still look very exciting with ball in hand, going forward
  23. Here goes again. Can Scotland burst the bubble of everyone's favourite second team? All the pressure has to be on the Scots
  24. Konstrukt & Joe McPhee - If You Have Time [Omlott]

    Ray Warleigh RIP

Never saw him as a leader but numerous times in others' bands. From memory (which may be playing tricks) he looked frail at the QEH last November when playing with The Dedication Orchestra. Didn't play frail though
