What live music are you going to see tonight?
mjazzg replied to mikeweil's topic in Live Shows & Festivals
I had to miss that trio at Oto last night. Enjoy it. Drake and Parker are unbelievably good in a live context.I don't know Dikeman so will be interested to hear what you make of it -

I love the idea that someone has a "Australian Jazz Orchestra" section in their collection.......can't be too many of them about outside the Antipodes. Full marks for such an eclectic taste Bev. I order mine strictly alphabetical (ex-librarian in me, I suspect) so my TUM releases don't huddle together like yours but I wish they did as they do look very nice like that. I also use the space saving sleeves and have found the only drawback is when I'm too greedy to space save and they get too squashed together which does then obscure the spine. But as Mjzee says above as their alphabetisized I always know where to look even if the spines aren't obvious

It's a lovely disc of slowly unfolding English folk music. Will post within Britain or Europe. PM me if you'd like either. Otherwise they go to the charity shop. Yes please Bev. I'm very happy to stray into outlying territory -

Big Bad John by Jimmy Dean and they didn't call me John but whether I'm big or bad I'll let others decide. I wonder what the UK #1 was? Just checked the 'conceived' link and got Calcutta by Lawrence Welk and His Orchestra. So glad my folks weren't in the US

eBay and/or record buying horror stories?

Package just arrived from US. Should've contained LP and CD but only the LP in it. Not surprising considering that the package was open and you can see where the tape has been sliced open across the width of the box (customs or postal service?). The LP only survived through luck as the poly sleeve was partially secured by tape inside the box. Otherwise empty box. chalk this up to bad luck and reflect on how many international packages arrive complete and safe And yes, I too hate those US CD closures. How don't they drive you all mad? -
couldn't Kamasi make it?

thank you

I suspect the timing of 'Amin' has been transposed. It's 9:51 on disc one so 13:57 would be a likely alt on disc 2, no? That would make disc 2 about 80 mins long by my reckoning whichever way it stacks up I'm mighty grateful we're getting the original LP let alone how many minutes of extra material

same here mine's on its way

Memory lane time (not the name of a band). This scene hit London as a package it seemed at the time (and oddly connected in my memory to REM but that's probably memory tricks). Contrary to felser I fell big time for Green On Red and The Long Ryders and saw them many times live so they must've been over here a lot. I'm not too sure how their music would stand up to my tastes nowadays. I owned the first Dream Syndicate album and the early Rain Parades but sold them on since Another Mazzy Star fan here and would recommend all their albums and what Hope Sandoval has gone on to do since. In fact, they/she's one of the few rock bands that still get a good listen amongst all the Jazz/improv
