Hmmmm Well before Jim and I were in Root Doctor they played for Clinton...does that count? I once played for Jeffrey Feiger (attorney for Jack Kevorkian) at the state democratic convention. We played for Mitch Albom (Tuesday With Morrie) on his radio program... I don't know, I think soul stream has a celebrity stream goin' there! Hard to compete with that. Our drummer said in his last band, Ted Nugent showed up and wanted to sit in. His boss Duke Tomato said "but we don't know any of your songs". To which Uncle Ted replied "well I know all of your's". Wasn't a love fest... Oh, Johnny Cash's guitarist (somebody from the Carter family) sat in... but in the audience..I don't know...I play with my eyes closed.

Another Root Doctor Freebie Jimmy plays a solo on this that is otherwordly. And it's good too!!!

At first I thought he was going all sex therapist (how to touch the little animal), then I thought he was saying you don't want to be a woman... I am so confused. Still, I bet he got laid that night.

Man you and I are in the same place right now. I hope it heals fast for you! g

Ron you have a beautiful home. I hope the fellas didn't trash it too much. Btw, I like how Jim and Randy are muggin, and the two other REAL musicians are into it!

Michael Weiss Debuts at the Village Vanguard

Soul Journey is high on my list of purchases to be made. Not giggin due to this darn hand...but I will get it soon. The sound clips are very intriguing. g -
Hand is doing pretty good. Numb between middle joint and top joint. But I can feel the tip. I feel pretty positive about it. The waiting was the hardest part...glad it is over. My guitar hasn't come yet...for some reason. Probably a good thing. lol g

I've give you that look all the time. -
Fatty tumor. Had one in my shoulder taken out the weak before. Probably need to listen to less soul jazz.

thanks guys. it is a bit swollen and throbbin today, and my hand hurts too.. ar ar wow, think the pain pills have me goofier than normal. actually, I didn't take any today, cuz I wanted to be careful with this thing. the incision is bigger than I expected. about inch long in total and shaped like a seven. runs across inside crease of main joint on left index finger and then diagonally toward the tip. he told me wife he wanted to peak around in there. I wasn't under but I was out of it. two weeks he says...Stromberg hasn't come yet... g p.s. got some cool discs from the Nessa catalog though, and I am about to put those on..

typing one-handed sucks... things are cool. hand is throbbin, but it was just a fatty tumor underneath some cartilage. he says the cartilage had some thickening...but all is good. should be playing in 2 weeks or less! whew!

organissimo mentioned in JazzTimes
GregN replied to Jim Alfredson's topic in organissimo - The Band Discussion
From my experience it seems like what they tell you in advance and what they actually do are often two different things at jazz festivals. You are often at the mercy of the whims of the stage manager- sometimes they will cut some slack for one artist while cutting another off short (yes, it can get very "political"). It might have had something to do with efforts to stay on schedule, or possibly another group needing some extra set-up time. No question it's a raw deal, but I think in anticipation of this one might plan a shorter program with the option to "audible" an extra tune or two if time permits. It means you might not get to end with the desired tune, but at least it will get played. You just never know how it's all going to go down. We had the opposite problem twice this year. While opening for Macy Gray they told us as we were going on stage that we had to do 90 minutes instead of 45. Recently, we were told we had 20 more minutes to go, by one person and that we were perfectly on time to do "the encore" by another. While opening for the Pointer Sisters.. a few months back...we got our set cut by 10 minutes because of an approaching storm. You never know. Our Detroit Jazz Festival appearance was right on time...but honestly, we could have gone longer. Ground transportation kept losing musicians. -
Way to go Johnny!! g

Thanks!! I just upgraded my "yousendit" account. So now this file can stay up for 9 more days. I will putting another up shortly...just can't figure out which one. I will likely just give out three from the studio release (any more than that and the guys in the band might cut my nutz off). I am thinking that Respect Yourself ought to be the next one, as Jimmy has a killer organ solo on it. g

Thanks Chuck. I practice and play guitar nearly everyday (I should be a lot better). The idea of not playing for any length of time, really scares me. I think the hardest part to deal with is the notion of them "moving nerves" to get this out. The second hardest part is knowing that for two weeks, I can only practice right hand technique (somehow I feel like I am setting myself up with this comment).

btw, I am assuming all went well with your procedure??? This happened about 25 years ago, I had a gangular cyst like in the photo below. There's a 2 inch scar now, and a bit of scar tissue but it doesn't affect my guitar playing. Well I have to hand it to you, you got that ugly black dot off there. I'll try not to fret about it... ahem

I'm gonna have to pick this one up. g Speaking from a guitaristic point of view; your going wish you had picked this one up sooner! Jim Hall is stellar. cool!

Cool link. I've been 'sheddin as of late. It feels good. g

Jazz Kat, which Sonny is your favorite? You appear to be very thoughtful about these things, and I am very curious. g I'd have to say its a toss up between, Saxophone Colossus Way Out West & Easy Living. Three very different albums in some respects. Along with The Bridge, I'll have to scope these out. Thanks! g
