  1. You're welcome. In my lifetime (and possibly ever) the worst/best depending your point of view....would be the David Cone trade to the Yankees for 3 pitching prospects. Only one of whom made the majors and only for 11 starts. Cone had just won the previous year's Cy Young with KC and was traded to the Jays. It was his second time with the Jays. He was with them a total of 3 months before the 1995 trade. It would lead to the start of the Yankees turnaround and their first WS in 18-years in 1996...and 4 in 5-years P.S. Give you and idea how long ago this was...Pettitte, Rivera, Posada, and Jeter were all rookies in 1995...and I was in elementary school. haha
  2. The Tigers won their last WS in 1984. According to the link you provided...Doyle only helped them win that year's pennant. He got shelled in the playoffs. I checked and he went 0-2 in that year's ALCS and had an era of 10.0. He then went 20-29 over the next 2-years with the Tigers. Smoltz had just turned 20 a couple months earlier and was still in the minors. He didn't make the majors and become a full time starter until the next year. The Tigers didn't have a prospect that could compare to Smoltz until Justin Verlander. That's 19-years.

  4. The Browns have already thrown in the towel for the season and @ the same time pretty much washing their hands of the Holmgren era. They traded Trent Richardson for the Colts' 2014 #1 and named their 3rd QB as the starter for this week. They will most likely end up with 2 top 10 picks in next year's draft....putting them in position to replace the other terrible pick form 2012. As in, Weeden. Not sure what the Colts are thinking in giving up a potential high pick for an injury plagued RB who averages 3.5 per carry. The Browns now only have two RB's on the roster. One of whom has never played a single down in his two years in the NFL. P.S. Somewhere, Jim Brown is laughing. Edited in: Browns will have 7 picks in next year's first 4 rounds.

  7. I haven't read it, but Duke: A Life of Duke Ellington by Terry Teachout made the 2013 National Book Award Nonfiction Longlist, http://www.thedailybeast.com/cheats/2013/09/18/the-national-book-awards-longlist-for-nonfiction-announced.html

  9. I'll look for those, BT. I ought to be able to find them here in Delaware. I've also got a Storm King chilling, but I won't get to it tonight. Since they're limited release beers it should be a lot easier to find them in Delaware. Try to find any bottles that were bottled from previous years if possible. They're brewed to improve with age. The sweet spot so to speak for the WWS is @ 18% ABV. Also, like the 60 and 90 minute....the 120 also represents the IBU amount as well as the time it was boiled/hopped. Though the high ABV keeps it from being that bitter.
  10. Have you tried their World Wide Stout or 120 Minute IPA? They're 15-20% ABV., depending on the year. For tonight's game(s) and movies....
  11. Didn't really like the 3rd and last season of Luther. Watched two BBC shows about real life events from long before anyone here was born. Both are set either during WWI, or soon afterwards. Not sure how many even heard of the first, and I have no idea how they came up for the idea for the 2nd. The Wipers Times. It's about the Wipers Times during WWI. This is the better of the two of them. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wipers_Times Also, the first episode of 6 part series called Peaky Blinders. About a ruthless gang in Birmingham after WWI. They would sew razors into their caps and headbutt their victims, or rivals. The story is slow and somewhat predictable. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2417281/The-real-Peaky-Blinders-Victorian-gang-terrorised-streets-Birmingham-sewed-razor-blades-caps-headbutt-rivals.html
  12. This is why I am holding off until there a lot of feedback. I already have access to vinyl and and CD's. Wish they just waited until they could use the metal parts.

  15. Is this just limited to non-Coltrane saxophonists? Have you considered going back to Coleman Hawkins, or parallel with Sonny Rollins? Both Coltrane and Rollins come from the Hawkins school. There is Wayne Shorter and Joe Henderson to name two. Another from before Coltrane is Lester Young who had an influence on post-bop. There is another school of saxophonists that were influenced by him. Since you like Out to Lunch...you might try Andrew Hill's Point of Departure, and Oliver Nelson's The Blues and Abstract Truth. As well as Dolphy's recordings with Charles Mingus. Speaking of Mingus....
  16. At least the Marlins could blame Wayne Huizenga's fire sale and playing in a much tougher division.
  17. I bought it, which is why I was able to recommend the place you bought it from. I second the Inscape/Tableaux.
  18. You will notice I said Tampa. Tampa was the team that was favored the beginning of the year in the East. Yes, the Indians do have an easier schedule than the Yankees. The whole point was I didn't think they would be this close with all the injuries and Mr. April circus. Edited in. Jeter (which really doesn't mean much since he's only been in 17 games and hasn't done much in those games.) out for the year. The Yankees did trade for Brendan Ryan last night who is a far superior fielder than Jeter, but can't hit. Of course, he has about the same average this year as Jeter did in those 17 games. Eduardo Nunez is a better hitter than Ryan, but he can't field worth a damn.

  22. Today's the official release date.
  23. The Mets are already treated like second class citizens in NYC. Now they're on the verge of being bumped off WFAN, which has been their radio station since WFAN first started broadcasting as a 24-hour sports station in 1987.. Replacing them....the Yankees who are moving from WFAN's sister station WCBS. Meantime somehow with all the injuries (the injured players salaries would have put them in 3rd) and for a good chunk of the season they team they fielded would have placed them 3rd to 7th of bottom teams in terms of payroll depending what part of the season....they're only 3 games back for the Wild Card....and have the much easier schedule than Tampa Bay for the remaining 18 games left.
  24. For anyone interested. http://www.publishersweekly.com/pw/by-topic/authors/profiles/article/58958-crouch-plays-bird-stanley-crouch.html
