  1. Although I already owned a number of "West Coast" albums by the likes of Chet Baker, Gerry Mulligan, Art Pepper etc, it was not until I read Robert Gordon's book "West Coast Jazz" in the 1980's that I realised the number of other artists that had recorded for West Coast labels. I ended up owning every recording identified in the pretty extensive discography in Mr. Gordon's book, many of which I still play regularly.
  2. Four ..... or five?
  3. Indeed it could. I wonder whether they might come packaged together.
  4. Do you have Spotify in Italy, Porcy? I don't do download, stick to lps, and unavoidable cds, so I didn't know but from my computer spotify home page is in italian, so I presume it exists over here. Spotify isn't downloading, it's streaming. It's the future! Oh dear, I do hope not......
  5. Thanks for the translation I put it through the Google translator......language unknown
  6. Oh........ how times have changed!
  7. I'm tempted.........
  8. 9. This is a nice release by Jimmy Dechar, containing a remastered session from 1979 ("The Scots' Connection") plus five bonus tracks from 2003 with Colin Steele, another Scot, in the trumpet chair. Plenty of copies going cheap on Amazon.
  10. According to AMG it was released on CD in the early 2000s but I must say I've never come across a copy. In fact all his albums on About Time Records would make a terrific boxset.
  11. At which venue did you seem them, David? At the Veg Box Cafe in Canterbury! http://thevegboxcafe.co.uk/ Part of this series http://www.free-range.co/ The concerts are often recorded but we forgot to record this one.... Looks good....a long way from North Yorkshire though. I'd loved to have seen Tony Coe last May......
  12. At which venue did you seem them, David?
  13. Not sure whether this is the original Atlantic/Rhino boxset, if that's an issue for you. Amazon are showing the label as "CLASSICAL".
  14. Head Man

    Ran Blake

Amazon are showing it also and as an ESP release.
  15. Ah so I did... Captain Adventure came out in 1975. Still, they say if you can remember the 60's then you weren't there.
  16. Wearing my "Union Jack" hat here's a few that I couldn't live without: ..in fact, ANYTHING by Stan Tracey..... OK I know he was born in the West Indies but he played & recorded all his jazz in the UK
  17. I'd love to hear more by that saxophonist, Zbyszek Namyslowski. Any recommendations? That's the only album I've heard him on and he is indeed fabulous on it. He does have an extensive discography--would be interested to hear others' opinions. This one, from 1964, is excellent. In fact I enjoy everything I have by him including these two from 2003 & 2006 respectively:
  18. Still waiting for this to be re-issued on CD. Anyone know why it's never happened?
  19. Yes, I've always wondered why this has never had a CD re-issue. His, later, "Burning Spirits" album, again on Contemporary, has been out on CD since 2003.
  20. Nothing on the Mosaic Records website yet. I do hope this doesn't mean it isn't going to happen.
  21. What's wrong with the way they're presented by Black Lion? AFAIK, they're long OOP. Plenty of used/new copies available at Amazon and ebay
  22. JM are slightly cheaper but only if you add in the additional customs charges that you might, or might not, get charged for a US order.
  23. What's wrong with the way they're presented by Black Lion?
  24. No self-respecting child would ever like ANYTHING his parents liked.........
  25. If you look through the thread you'll read my thoughts on the sound of these reissues......
