  1. Thank for the heads-up, Chuck. My order to Amazon is on its way!
  2. I don't know whether they are in the sale but TCB released some of Lynne Arriale's best albums.
  3. Thanks for clarifying, but I really don't know the subtle differences between delta blues and country blues, or other acoustic blues from this era. So, don't leave out good suggestions if I don't know what I'm asking for. If that makes sense! Oh yes, and something by Blind Boy Fuller should also be on your list. Again, either of the Columbia/Sony or JSP sets are excellent.
  4. Yes, plus something by Blind Willie Johnson. Either of the sets on Columbia or JSP are excellent. Oh...and don't forget the early Blind Gary Davis set on Yazoo. That should be enough to be getting on with for now!
  5. I'd never heard of him until this thread. Nor me!
  6. thanks for the response nate - FWIW i could not find an existing thread. The previous thread is here: Ogun Blue Notes Boxset BTW The boxset is superb and may be cheaper to order directly from Hazel Miller at Ogun Records. However, the site doesn't have on-line ordering facilities so you would have to order by phone/e-mail.
  7. He didn't get better looking as he got older, did he!
  8. I've never heard of this guy but what a great name for a jazzman!
  9. There is one entry in Bruyninckx for 1989 which mentions Jimmy Woods. It's an album by Januscz Carmeillo called 'Portrait' on the Hep label. Jimmy plays on one track, 'Daydream'. It was recorded on June 3, 1989 in Edinburgh, Scotland.
  10. It WILL be re-released on LPs by Pure Pleasure Records in England. Thanks for the info, Laurie. Is there some reason why it's only getting a vinyl release since I'm sure that will mean a far smaller audience for what is a terrific recording. BTW I saw him live at Ronnie Scott's on the same tour and he was on fire; a really memorable occasion.
  11. The press release refers to a download from CDBABY of the album 'Blues for The Fisherman' that will be available shortly. I was lucky enough to buy a copy of this when it was first released by Mole Jazz and it really is a terrific album from a session he did live at Ronnie Scott's Club in June, 1980. What a shame it isn't getting a proper re-release on CD.
  12. Carradine may have died from sex act: Thai police "Under these circumstances we cannot be sure that he committed suicide but he may have died from masturbation," he said. Oh my God! Something else to worry about!
  13. What are the Tyler CDs you have, Chuck?
  14. 'Quite adequate'? Now.......that's a recommendation
  15. My, albeit, few dealings with Paypal on disputes with e-bay sellers has taught me that they are always unhelpful and work on the principle that if they make it complicated you will give up before they do. I don't buy or sell on e-bay now.
  16. Bruyninckx has the date of recording as June, 1966 and the only reference to a record release as MUSE MR5054. Not a great help, I know.....but something.
  17. French. (Born in Liege.) Was married to Blossom Dearie who died recently.

  19. Do they ever! Info please!!! Does nobody have any information about these releases?
  20. Just noticed on the Wounded Bird website that Woody Shaw's two Elektra Musician albums are scheduled for release soon and are showing on Amazon with a release date of 17 March. I've had these on vinyl since their release and they are both worth having.
  21. Thanks Chuck, my order arrived safely yesterday. Lovely to hear the Charles Tyler again after all these years. I still can't get used to not having to turn it over half-way through, though ! I'm really enjoying the Wadada Leo Smith as well. I'd like to add my thanks to you for keeping this wonderful music in circulation.

Can anyone help?
  23. I have had the Denny Zeitlin album 'Calexis/Carnival' on Collectables for several years now and it is one of my favourite piano albums. The music does not come over as remotely 'poppish'. Unfortunately the album only contains five tracks from 'Carnival' so it is not complete, but everything on it is excellent. My one criticism is that several of the tracks are faded out, something that always irritates me and I wonder whether this has been remedied with this new boxset. In fact I think I have convinced myself to pre-order the set!
  24. I've just done a Google search and it would appear that the limit increased from £18 to £105 in December 2008 BUT ONLY FOR CUSTOMS DUTY. The rules on VAT have not changed and it should still be applied; plus the charge that the Post Office makes for collecting the fee. I know collection of this fee can be a bit 'hit and miss' but when it is collected it comes to a significant additional cost. I think I might wait until the set comes out on 'general release', probably later this year
