  2. I hear the version of 'Beatrice' on this one is excellent. i didn't know he made a version from beatrice, i must hear that stuff It is THE definitive version of the tune IMHO. That one tune is worth the cost of the album. Wonderful.....get it!
  3. Someone with whom I nave no affiliation is selling a collection of Classics here: http://shop.ebay.com/bensjass/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=&_trksid=p4340
  4. Yes...but I picked up a Carter/Gillespie( In the Mood for Swing ) only to realize it was the wrong one. All the hoopla was about Carter/Gillespie INC.... It is a nice date anyway. Think I will keep it and look for the other one!! :)

  7. I have wasted a bunch of time looking for a discussion about this one. Live At Newport 58, Horace Silver I can remember it being discussed here but can't find it. I share your frustration. It seems to me that some board members are much more adept than I at using the search function. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
  8. I just tried to post an image. When I tried to utilize the drop down box the margin of the box was outside of the viewing area and would not let me place the cursor in the box. Any suggestions on how to adjust? How to position the drop down box? Thanks
  9. I'll take the Billy Bauer, Plecterist(?) $15 Thanks
  10. I am not familiar with the other tenor player mentioned in the piece. Any background on him? Interesting video. Thanks Jim.
  11. This is a wonderful cd. Touching how he was still so good and so deep a player few weeks before his death. I think you should not miss Carmen McRae version, on Carmen Sings Monk, her late masterpiece. Rouse himself plays in two live tracks on the cd; Ruby 'only' has a beautiful solo from Clifford Jordan. Hey thanks Armando.........spinning it right now. I always liked that cd. Good one to revisit and you are right about Jordan's solo. However, I still marvel at Rouse's treatment of the tune on Epistrophy! It is such a good tune. Performed by almost everyone at one time or another; some better than others. Most sound pretty good to me. Thanks again.
  12. I wonder if the bookcase comes with it?? Now that could sweeten the deal!!!
  13. Been giving this one a lot of spins lately. It has one of the best versions of Ruby My Dear that I can recall. No surprise in that I guess, I mean he should know Monk better than anyone, but....He nails it on this one. Complete understanding of the tune and he gets so much out of it. His phrasing and intonation on this one are simply beautiful. I have always liked the tune. One of my favorite Monk tunes actually; but this version is a stand out. Other than Monk himself, any other great recorded performances of this classic tune??

  20. Get used to it. It's probable that these will be the last official CD issues of these albums ever. I am a bit skeptical of these types of predictions. Always, never and ever are a very long time! Suffice it to say it may be a while before we see these again. I have paid some handsome prices for those "rare issues" never to be seen again......never that is until they showed up as RVG's. Blue Note is pretty good at what they do and that certainly includes marketing.
