  1. One of my favorite novels of 2007. Probably mentioned earlier in this thread - maybe even by me. I wouldn't go through the 100 previous pages in the thread either.
  2. The Village Voice just raved about this, and I was considering checking it out. Let us know if it lives up to the hype. I'm just about done with Rushdie's Haroun and the Sea of Stories. Wanda Coleman's book of short stories is definitely worthwhile. Complex, moving writing.
  3. Didn't the erstwhile Lon (jazzbo) get banned from AAJ for some rather pointless reason? Perhaps he prefers not to comment.
  4. Mine is valid.
  5. I like the Atavistic series. John Corbett seems to know his Ra.

    Amy Winehouse

More like Ruth Oy vey What I have heard so far instilled in me an urgent desire..... ...to hit the STOP button. Seriously I was ever so unimpressed and felt that I had heard it all before, only performed better. So, to answer the original question: I respectfully (really) disagree. I hope she is able to overcome her problems.

The New Jazz albums are all worthwhile.

hatOLOGY 505 - one of my favorites.
  9. Finally got to see There Will Be Blood. It doesn't resemble Magnolia in any way, shape or form. Daniel Day Lewis was great. The ending was quite disturbing. The movie received several Oscar nominations this a.m..
  10. I don't get promos. of anything. I like this 2 CD set. Doesn't matter to me if you don't. I can take it.
  11. Opening here tomorrow. Plan to see it over the weekend.
  12. John Wideman: God's Gym Wanda Coleman: Jazz & 12 O'clock Tales
  13. Thanks for your usual unbiased, objective opinion. BTW, I love Dewey too.
  14. Packers kicked butt after those two "miscues" at the beginning.
  15. Yeah - nothing better than a woman with a horn.
  16. Ms. Schneider doesn't need me to defend her music, but this is a great CD. (Almost forgot to say IMO.) You might want to check the Village Voice critics' poll.
  17. As often, what Lon said.
  18. Michael McGarrity: Death Song
  19. I wonder whatever happened to the Shepp / Roach Hat reissue.
  20. I didn't look at this thread until now (& didn't look at all of it). I'm not surprised by the naysayers - but some of this "bashing" (don't know what else to call it) seems inappropriate. Live At The Stratford Shakespearean Festival always did (& still does) do it for me.
  21. Damn - I had heard Jan. 2008. Will have to be patient.
