I thought the movie was well directed. The best movie I saw this week was Pan's Labyrinth (not to derail the thread).

Martinelli 2004 pinot noir (one of their single vineyard releases).

The original DB review (by Martin Williams) was 3 stars. Fair review considering the time. I meant the recent review of the Mosaic single. Sorry for any "confusion".

I like it too. FWIW, 5 stars in Down Beat, reviewed as I recall by Kevin Whitehead.

Picked up 2 Ryan Kisor Japanese releases - Donna Lee & Sidewinder. Both are really good (IMHO). On the "non-jazz" side I was impressed by both Amy Winehouse CDs.

As I said earlier in this thread I think Matana is well worth hearing whenever possible. Doesn't matter what she wears (IMO). Frankie - thanks for starting this thread.

Matana's great. I have the quartet CD on Utech (may be OOP) with Taylor Ho Bynum on tpt. that I really like. She also put out a solo CD that may be available from DMG. I got my copy directly from her.

I just ordered the Nicole Mitchell Trio live CD with Harrison Bankhead & Hamid Drake from Greenleaf (paperback series).

The 2 Ed Blackwell Project CDs on Enja recorded about 2 months before his death. I play these over & over.

It'll probably come out right around the same time as Bouncin' With Bartok.

I have the original release on Cellar Live from Canada where it was first issued & then suddenly withdrawn. It's a fine CD. I don't know if it has been "reissued" yet.

Having time to read & write is not exactly negligible though, in and of itself. I know a lot of writers/aspiring writers who'd all but kill for the simple quantity of relatively unfettered time. She didn't deny the value of the time to read and write. That was the whole point. She said that what she learned / was taught from the "curriculum" of the program was relatively useless to advancing her skills as a writer.

Good point, Allen. I also agree with this. I spoke to a published, successful novelist recently. She said that all her MFA program did was give her time to read & write. What she "learned" from the program itself was negligible.

I've never had a DG order not show up. Some have taken a while, but nothing was ever lost.

Sounds like "everybody" won. Nice going. I didn't enter.

We had a huge snow storm here - 2+ feet. No mail Fri., Sat., Sun., Mon., & now Tuesday. This has pushed me into paying a handful of bills on-line (which my wife has been trying to get me to do for a long time.) Our mail service here is always semi-lousy. I have a few packages that I've been tracking that have been sitting at the post office since Dec.29. Someone (hopefully) is coming to plow our driveway this morning so we can get out. Haven't been anywhere since Thursday evening.
