  1. I'm waiting for the 25 - 30% coupons to come back. Probably unlikely.
  2. I saw him earlier this year (or was it late last year?) on one of his UK gigs then just a few weeks ago at North Sea. In both cases he looked a bit drawn and certainly a lot thinner than on previous times I've seen him. On both occasions though he played very well indeed - with great sense of purpose. Hope everything is OK with him ! I just saw him less than a week ago. He looks gaunt & walks like a (very) old man. On the other hand he was reasonably animated & played well. If he's ill, the specifics are not being revealed to the general public.
  3. Any chance of getting organissimo into that festival with possibly a club hit somewhere next year? Thank you Duke City for clarifying that it was approx. 800 per concert. The person to contact for booking possibilities is Tom Guralnick at The Outpost Performance Space.
  4. Lots of whining in this thread (? esp. from the east coast). We just finished the New Mexico Jazz Festival. Excellent crowds (up to 800 people) for the likes of McCoy Tyner Septet, Branford Marsalis Quartet, Arturo O'Farrill Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra, Newport All-Stars. Maybe we're just not as jaded & more grateful. For a city of 65 thousand we're doing O.K..
  5. Tonight Arturo O'Farrill Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra Tomorrow night McCoy Tyner Septet
  6. That's good to know! Buying from Rouge Art is expensive, although I have to say this Roscoe CD was worth the 24 Euros. You should get this one. Done!!
  7. Cadence has the Rogue Art CDs now including this new 2 CD Mitchell.
  8. Trio 3: Time Being (Intakt) Mario Pavone: Deez To Blues (Playscape) Mark Helias: Atomic Clock (RadioLegs) Ernie Krivda: Stellar Sax (CIMP) Khan Jamal: Black Awareness (CIMP) Pandelis Karayorgis: We Will Make A Home For You (Clean Feed)
  9. Not to get off-topic here, but a really good Sipiagin CD is CrissCross 1270.
  10. Stylings Of Silver is a great session. I'll stick with my JRVG CD.
  11. I don't believe that the CDs (late era Shepp) under discussion should be missed over the "singing" by Shepp of which there isn't much.
  12. Saw Branford Marsalis Quartet last night (Calderazzo, Revis, Tain). Have to say they were excellent.
  13. Here you go. Get 'em both immediately at any cost.
  14. Ordered the CD today.
  15. Dave Douglas: Live In Sweden (Greenleaf Paperback Series)
  16. Saw an "all-star" group last night at The New Mexico Jazz Festival. Frank Wess, Lew Tabackin, Randy Sandke, Kenny Davern, Howard Alden, Cedar Walton, Peter Washington, Kenny Washington. Great playing by all. Everyone had their own "features" as well as tunes by the entire group. More thought than usually goes into this type of session had obviously been applied.
  17. What do you think so far? I liked it, though obviously it would have been improved had she lived to finish the whole thing and also had a chance to revise. So far, so good - but I'm only half-way through the first part.
  18. Irene Nemirovsky: Suite Francaise
  19. Lots of Euros. I wonder if Cadence will eventually get it. That's where I got the previous Mitchell on RogueArt. Disclaimer: I see they no longer have that earlier one listed in their data base.
  20. Good songs. Masabumi Kikuchi "groans" louder than Jarrett when he plays. I'll be optimistic for now.
  21. About The Monks is better than his newer CD on ZoHo (IMHO).
  22. Duke's In Bed (of course, no Ellington on that one except what I presume are Duke's slippers on the cover).
  23. Maybe a minority viewpoint, but I really like Monk's Casino.
  24. huh? mine is just 1 disc! I have the 2 CD version which I believe is a "compilation" of 4 EP's.
