  1. Back to the matter at hand, listened some on YouTube, will definitely get, probably the deluxe on CD. Wish I was hearing new music even in this ballpark - JD Allen's Graphitti is the best sax of this century to my ears and it's just standing on the sidewalk outside 'Trane's ballpark.
  2. This is lovely, might be my favorite Spoon.
  3. thanx, I enjoyed that.
  4. BN made at least two other attempts at CR albums, check the discographies.
  5. Me 'n You (from NRFS) is a 24 bar long meter blues before Sidewinder Caddy For Daddy is that Sidewinder groove but with call 'n response instead of a unison head. But nearly everything they did together is groovy Chicken 'n Dumplins with AB & TJMs is nice too.
  6. For a second there I thought They were going to outlaw retro throwback acts, Greta Van Fleet sent to prison!
  7. I've certainly felt that way once or twice!
  8. Max torque @ zero rpm!
  9. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jHQsCyGrQKo Guitar comes in just past the minute mark.
  10. doesn't mean he's not out-of-touch, perhaps shouldn't be but that's a different thing...
  11. Two guys, certainly, but one world.
  12. Reminds me of why I got so pissed off at the guy in NYR who said 'no one would deny that Cole Porter is wittier than Chuck Berry'...not to go totally off on a tangent.
  13. http://www.espdisk.com/5020.html he's on this one with my friend Tim DuRoche, I think I met Andre on the #19 bus a couple of times - nice guy
  14. I didn't say you had, sorry if I gave that impression - the piece I was referring to was one of Carla's playing Rota, and I may have also been referencing something someone else wrote about her here.
  15. It bugs me, obviously, but not nearly as much as getting expressions wrong like saying 'underestimated' instead of overestimated or 'can be' for can't. It's hard enough to understand others when they do say what they mean... and I do think this connects to Carla's work, somehow.
  16. Not sure how I can explain any better, maybe someone else can take a shot? An LP or CD is a physical thing you sell. A piece of music (or related bunch of pieces) is a conceptual thing realized in a particular performance and/or recording. The latter may or may not fit (comfortably or at all) on the former. Two different things that's all. Perhaps 'artificial' wasn't the best word, 'synthetic'?
  17. It's "artificial" 'cause it's based on a physical unit of commerce, not on any musical consideration.
  18. No, 'an album' is an artificial construct and in the post-physical artifact era an individual piece of music, or collection of such, can last just as long as it needs to without concern for filling up any particular package.
  19. If it was just once, or once in a while, then it's a brain glitch and we all get them and I'd owe you an apology. But when it's all the time, then I can only conclude that you're not thinking about what you're saying and why should I think about it either. As for Carla, whatever the importance of Escalator or other work, surely it can be either under or over estimated, but saying the opposite of what you seem to mean weakens whatever you're trying to say, as does overstating it in sweeping terms. But there is something very broad brush about much of it that I often find off-putting, except in the Rota piece I posted above.
  20. As far as I can tell, nothing quite like this before it. Dec '61
  21. I liked that Tadd D date just fine, YMMV indeed! Don't know that I'd do that...but sure would love to hear it!
  22. ...or because genuinely admired Getz - this isn't the only time he praised his playing. Miles certainly had no obligation to get CT or anyone else who was a different wavelength than he. That he got Trane and Tony early is more than enuff.
  23. Thanks for the nice, calm reply; that may well be what she's doing, I just find it more problematic than you. If I was a serious fan of circus/carnival music (I'm sure there are some) I'd probably find what I posted above less satisfying.
