  1. Great. Whatever you guys are smoking send some over to me in Tokyo.
  2. Hi Vic Apologies for being off thread but are still playing the Potts BB ' Jazz Soul Of Porgy & Bess' ? Nice to see you posting again. Dave ( ex BNBB)
  3. Bill Perkins & Richie Kamuca ' Tenors Head On '- Pacific Jazz (CDP7 97195 2). I haven't heard ' Drop Me Off In Harlem' but the other two mentioned are great.

I've got a copy of ' Face To Face' but I'm not sure exactly where it is. When I find it I'll post details.
  5. Perhaps I was unlucky tuning in during a long rap. Today it was straight music with no chat.
  6. Brownian Motion If you like the Adam Makowicz Maybeck session which features the music of Cole Porter, you would like ' The Music Of Jerome Kern' (Concord CCD-457 )
  7. I'm sure the chaps' fund raising appeals were sincere but after 20 minutes of talk and no BH I gave up and changed channels.
  8. Lazaro As yet I haven't located any Japanese internet radio stations that I would consider recommending. If I come across anything interesting I'll post details. Alternatively if anyone has any leads they would like following up on the various Japanese language web sites I'll be happy to oblige. Dave
  9. The programme was great, the archive is great. Mary Lou's Mass is great.
  10. Thanks for the mail Lazaro. The time difference is very simple, we are twelve hours ahead of you. I've already started listening to some of the 'morning ' show, very nice. Thanks again. Dave
  11. Thanks for the link to WFIU Night Lights, it's great !! Blue Lakes broadcasting schedule is , of course, out of synchronisation with Tokyo, I've tuned in several times but it seems to be talk shows all the time. Maybe a clearer schedule to help international listeners would be a good idea.
  12. JohnJ If it makes you feel any better I've been speaking Japanese for over twenty years and although I have no problems with daily life I still get bewildered trying to follow complex news stories like the current Nippon Broadcasting Live Door business. I'd say a lot depends on your age and attitude, the early stages are sheer hard work and grit.
  13. I also have all the material on different cds. It's great stuff and recommended of course. The Annie Ross one is called ' Annie Ross Sings A Song With Mulligan' on Pacific Jazz. I'll post the cat no. and details as soon as I can find it.
  14. That's good new about Seinfeld. love 'The Bubble Boy', remember the Jeopardy game and 'The Moops' ? 'The Contest 'is another classic, in fact they all are. Watched ' Code 46' last night and was impressed. ps the line, 'not that there is anything wrong with that 'is from ' The Outing'.
  15. Agree about 'Age Of Innocence' an ignored masterpiece which strikes me as a career parallel with Kubrick's ' Barry Lyndon'. Both films are TOO good, they didn't stand a chance as they demanded the audience sit still and watch!
  16. That's good news. I was so blown away with 'Taxi Driver' that I saw 'NYNY' on it's first day of release here in Tokyo. I couldn't understand the bad press it started getting.Maybe I benefited in seeing it on the big screen ( as was intended). Another reason might be that in the old pre video, pre internet days, movies were something to look forward to and savour with re-viewing possible after a few months when they hit the rerun cinemas. Maybe they really were ' the good old days' Who knows.
  17. I recommend these- Naima's Love Song - DIW Cry Me A River - Venus Maybeck Hall - Concord Music In The Key Of Clark - High Note Nightwind- An Erroll Garner Songbook - HighNote Something To Live For - HighNote
  18. The Who weren't bad ! Beatles Stones Kinks Free Traffic Georgie Fame & The Blue Flames
  19. Sal Apart from the bonus material, precisely in what way is the new edition of ' Raging Bull' better than the previous dvd version ? It's one of my all time favourites and I would like to hear more details before forking out for a replacement of the old incarnation. Thanks Dave ps ditto 'Malcolm X', the picture quality on the old one is more than satisfactory to my eyes, so what's the new version got to offer ?
  20. Don't know how you can list faves by JS. Everything he did was great, period. The first time I heard him( on discs) was around 1962 and my musical sensibility changed for ever.
  21. I don't know if it will help in catching the kittens but many cats who live outside love polysterene packing boxes. I'm pretty sure they would go inside and at least it would protect them from the cold. There is also a kind of stick that cats are crazy about, apparently chewing or even licking it gets them really stoned really quickly, even lions and tigers can't resist resist it. Ask your pet shop. Some food and a stick or two inside a polysterene case should do the trick. Dave
  22. DVD's, classics and film noir are my preference but newer stuff is covered too. Up to about 600 or so but have a l o n g way to go to catch up with the cds which have now spilled over to my office as we ran out of storage space at home( small Japanese condo). Crime paperbacks and WW2 books are also a milder obsession.
  23. Two recent films I saw on dvd that are notable for the superb picture quality ( besides being good and interesting films) are- 'Girl With A Pearl Earring' and ' Swimming Pool'.
  24. I've scrolled through the pages of this thread but don't seem to see Baby Face Willette' Stop & Listen'. I would humbly suggest this is mandatory B3 music, listen to his take on ' Willow Weep For Me'.
