  1. 'Infinity' might well be my all-time favorite Lee Morgan leader date. Especially if I disregard all my pro-"early 70's" biases (and don't reflexively pick the 'Last Date' or 'Live at the Lighthouse' material). WELL worth getting, if you don't already have it (even at a bit of a premium).
  2. You damned dirty Andorians! Damn you! Damn you all to hell!!
  3. Yup, sure is. Get one, either way, it's a spectacular date.
  4. Here's a better link... http://www.jazz.com/features-and-interview...e-bolton-part-1 Damn, I can't wait for part 2!!
  5. My favorite too...
  6. Maryilyn Chambers Disco Record Listen for yourself (though the last 90 seconds is probably NSFW - depending on where you work, of course ).
  7. How about the Jazz Messengers with Tyrone Washington and Woody Shaw in 1969!! NO tapes have yet surfaced (at least not that I'm aware of), but one could hold out some hope for the Filmore East date (9 days before I was born, by the way). April? 1969: Woody Shaw-tpt; Tyrone Washington-tsx; George Cables-p; Scotty Holt-b Wollman Auditorium, Columbia University, NYC (February 24, 1969) [db 3/20/69 p.15] Loeb Student Center, New York University, NYC (March 3, 1969) [db 3/20/69 p.15] Fillmore East, NYC (March 9, 1969) [db 3/20/69 pp.14, 52] Black Bottom, Montreal, Canada (April? 1969) [Coda 6/69 p.34] Café La Boheme (early April-early May 1969) [Voice] [this is questionable considering the below activity] source
  8. I used to have that Ornette date (on CD, no less), and it's one heck of a good one. I must have had somebody make me an offer I couldn't refuse, as I can't remember exactly why I sold it.
  9. Same here. More than a few times I've morphed the title and/or topic "sub-heading" as the content of a thread has morphed over time.
  10. I'll start... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8YRuIMqVcA4 Edit: Was that extreme microtonality?? -- or simply the greatest number of modulations in a single tune in recent memory??
  11. I can't even find it on the U.S. Amazon site (no listing even). Searched three or four different ways (including by author).
  12. Why save anything, when there's the web... http://www.perfectbluesky.com/reflecto/gallery.html At least twice a year the subject of "reflectoporn" shows up somewhere on fark, digg, or reddit.
  13. FWIW, MC told me back in August of '08 (by e-mail) that the McLean date with Tyrone and Woody was, well, here the exact quote from the e-mail... "The McLean session is no where to be found" Which I presume means the tapes are lost. (Or so sayeth MC. )
  14. The one that started it all...
  15. Or did Jim infiltrate a spambot?
  16. Not that I'm aware of. One or two tracks from each were on "The Art of Larry Young" -- but I believe the only CD issue of either complete session is the Mosaic. I really wish they'd put both these out as Conns -- especially "Contrasts" (cuz of Tyrone Washington, of course). I do have the Mosaic, but would prefer to have Young's entire BN output as single CD's.
  17. Both tracks (the complete 'duo' session) is available here... Drums Around the Corner (AMG review) The entire disc is highly recommended (IMHO), the bulk of which is a unique multi-drummer session plus Lee Morgan(!!) and Bobby Timmons. Edit: Chuck beat me to it -- but that's what I get for trying to supply pics and links.
  18. Along with Joe Henderson's Our Thing! I love Black Fire, and what later came out as a single (Conn) as PAX is one hell of an interesting date too... Date: February 10, 1965 Location: Van Gelder Studio, Englewood Cliffs, NJ Label: Blue Note Andrew Hill (ldr), Joe Henderson (ts), Freddie Hubbard ©, Andrew Hill (p), Richard Davis (b), Joe Chambers (d) And here are the details of the concert in 1988 (which I've never heard before, though I'm sure a couple here have)... Date: March 25, 1988 Location: New Morning Club, Paris, France Label: [radio broadcast] Joe Henderson, Andrew Hill (ldr), Joe Henderson (ts), Andrew Hill (p), Mick Hutton (b), Mark Taylor (d) a. 01 [unknown title] - 15:59 (Composer Unknown) b. 02 Ask Me Now - 18:03 (Thelonious Monk) c. 03 Tenor Madness [aka Royal Roost; aka Rue Chaptal; aka Sportin' Crowd] - 16:14 (Kenny Dorham, Hank Mobley, Sonny Rollins) d. 04 Invitation - 18:55 (Bronislau Kaper, Paul Francis Webster) e. 05 All The Things You Are - 19:58 (Jerome Kern, Oscar Hammerstein II) f. 06 Body And Soul - 22:39 (Johnny Green, Edward Heyman, Robert Sour, Frank Eyton) g. 07 The Theme - 10:05 (Miles Davis) First selection is a fast blues - title needed. 19. Thanks Free, and everybody else. The big... 4 0 today. Yikes!!!!!
  20. Hmmm, I thought he just designed neckties...
  21. You should be using the Organissimo link to Amazon. I do, I do!!! (Well, more often than not.) I'm forever checking the price (used) on 10 or 20 times as many discs as I ever actually end up buying.
  22. The feature was there as recently as a month or two ago. I used to use it quite a bit to quickly get to an Amazon or half.com entry for an item. Wonder why it went away?? Surely venders weren't charging the AMG to provide those links? It would only be in their interest to do so. Kinda weird.
  23. Wow, that's pretty cool! I'd buy a whole CD of that kind of material easily (for the right price, of course).
  24. I've had the second book (Mode/Spiritual Jazz) for going on about three months now (got it from Dusty). I think it's pretty interesting, and well worth $10 or even $15. Unfortunately I think it cost $20 from Dusty. (So I'm glad I have it, but it wasn't quite worth what I paid for it.) Lots of titles in there I'd love to follow up on, that's for sure. Can anybody report back about the first book?? It also looks interesting, but I was afraid that a lot more of the titles in it would be much better known, with very little that was obscure.
