  1. Wonderful, Allen! Ras Moshe! Love the groove on the second tune! How about naming the album "The Discreet Charm of the Underclass", too? - Would be a great title, methinks!
  2. Great discussion here! There's an earlier thread on "Head On":
  3. Their Bechet wallet box is MP3 sourced and the Quadromanias are generally crappy (also as far as documentation/session info is concerned).
  4. beware of Membran ... (though it seems some of their classical release are rather okay, soundwise)
  5. Yes, pretty cool little film! And Bob's detachment (though an old tradition) is rather cool, too!
  6. I'm in constant fear of that happening to Julia Roberts and her frighteningly huge mouth whenever I see her But Louie must've swallowed the Matterhorn, too!
  7. Thanks! Interesting reads ... and I guess for me it will be a one-time live experience in the end, too. I might try and listen to excerpts in a store, but I guess they'll only have Sinopoli and Yo-Yo-Ma and Lang-Lang there, alas.
  8. Well, sorry 'bout that, but I promised my mother to get her a recording, that's what prompted my question ... tending to Belohlávek (Chandos 1991) right now, but Sinopoli or Kubelik would be other options. (For my own sake, I might tend to go for older recordings by Smetácek or Talich, but I want to make sure to get an okay to good-sounding version this time and don't have time to check out various ones first ... don't want to spend a fortune either since I've got no idea if it's of any interest to me.) (edited for fixing a link)
  9. today's finds: Hamiet Bluiett - Birthright (India Navigation) Baikida Carroll - Shadows and Reflections (Soul Note) Duke Ellington - Nutcracker Suite / Peer Gynt Suites (CBS UK) Chico Freeman - The Outside Within (India Navigation) Abdullah Ibrahim - South African Sunshine (Pläne) Magog (JAPO) Werner Pirchner/Harry Pepl/Todd Candedy/Adelhard Roidinger - Austrio Drei (EGO)
  10. Yowzah! great find, I assume ... great music for sure!
  11. Is the Felsted one actually a McGhee album with Redd compositions/arrangements or a Redd album with McGhee featured? Not that it really matters, but I've often wondered and not found it in my iGarbage-can because I looked under the wrong leader.
  12. Sorry, posted here via google search and didn't see the subtitle - there's another string quartets thread here: But as for my question (which I still hope is okay to ask here), I found (among others) these:
  13. That one would perfeclty fit the "wieners in ashtrays" thread, too
  14. Big time, big time! Headin' for the second centenary?
  15. I'm looking for a recording of "Stabat mater" - any recommendations?
  16. The same two that are likely in circulation among collectors ... have never seen the entire four track date!
  17. Now, THAT'S the truth! DANG! I'll continue walking down the Fremeaux route anyway ... those 3CD sets are great, both in presentation and in sound.
  18. Thanks! A 1960 set makes little sense to me, but then what do I know ... they'd have to learn and include stuff that's so far been beyond the scope of bootleggers. The omission of the earliest 1958 date still seems odd, as there'd be more than enough space on disc one! (edited for crappy typing)
  19. That makes more sense! (As an explanation: "Mangel" means - among other things - "lack" in German.)
  20. Happy Birthday!
  21. Then what does it include that makes it extend to more than two discs? Uhm, I just see the cover - it IS just two discs... http://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/images/B008C1IBYG/ref=dp_otherviews_z_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&img=1 (w/zoom on the back cover) But where's the May 3, 1958 date? Has that been officially released (which still wouldn't stop these fellows to include it, I think). Do they miss that one because (amazingly, at least as far as Losin goes) it hasn't been bootlegged yet?
  22. http://www.popmarket.com/louis-armstrong-the-okeh-columbia-rca-victor-recordings-1925-1933/details/27732990 Also, consider the possibility that the remastering comment on the site for the Armstrong set refers to that done for the 4 cd Hot Fives and Sevens boxed set released by Sony 10+ years ago. It wouldn't be the first time that a record company was manipulative in its use of language in order to increase sales of its product. That would be good enough if they actually re-did the rest of the box! And yes, would be nice if Ricky could chime in if he knows more! On the Sony Hot Fives/Sevens set?
  23. damn!
  24. sounds good to me (assuming it's not a blatand lie): http://www.popmarket.com/louis-armstrong-the-okeh-columbia-rca-victor-recordings-1925-1933/details/27732990
