  1. Chuck, excellent service as usual, already got the discs today and am spinning some of the music as I type this! Thanks a lot!
  2. Wow, wow, wow! All expectations met up with... truly one of the most amazing sax players of recent years! A short set, but it's been a while that I heard that much saxophone! Binder was mighty fine, too - never even heard of her name before, though she's a local (website) In one sentence: Kihlstedt is pretty nice to look at... Not as great as I'd hoped, but fine and powerful, whimsical and funny... but something was lacking. Even more so after Butcher/Binder's amazing opener!
  3. Blue Suede Shoes Snake Skin Jacket Pork Pie Hat (or if you prefer: Bird Nicholas Cage Pres)
  4. Couldn't you at least have tried to come up with an onze-tet?
  5. Les Double Six de Paris Count Basie's Kansas City Septem Dave Pell Octet
  6. ¡Congrats, Erik! ¡mucha suerte! But Aggie is a man person, requiring a man adjective, therefore bon(e)! Viva la differential! I won't pull a boner joke now... oops
  7. Thanks Chuck! Looking forward to finally owning a real copy of that Brözziman box!
  8. far too little live music all summmer and fall... but tonight: UNERHÖRT - PROGRAMM AM SAMSTAG, 20.00 UHR, ROTE FABRIK/CLUBRAUM CLAUDIA ULLA BINDER - JOHN BUTCHER Claudia Ulla Binder: Piano | John Butcher: Reeds CARLA KIHLSTEDT - MATTHIAS BOSSI: SHILO Carla Kihlstedt: Violin, Nickelharpa, Pump Organ, Voice | Matthias Bossi: Drums, Fender Rhodes, Foot Accordion, Voice GIANLUIGI TROVESI OCTET Gianluigi Trovesi: Reeds | Marco Remondini: Cello, Saxophone | Massimo Greco: Trumpet | Beppe Caruso: Trombone | Marco Micheli: Double Bass | Roberto Bonati: Double Bass | Vittorio Marinoni: Drums | Fulvio Maras: Percussion
  9. When I bought mine is was listed as the last one. I guess they have to re-stock. I didn't even pay attention when I ordered... but as it's new, I guess with a little patience, I'll be fine. And of course there's no need for rush anyway!
  10. Enjoying the Benny Goodman Capitol Small Group that I had in the mail today! Haven't started playing the music yet, but around a third is familiar from the Capitol Trios, In Hi-Fi and BG Story Reissues. Good to have it all now! Again, new set (no # in the booklet, the box a bit damaged, but got it for a good price so I won't complain!)
  11. Just hope it'll come through... it's not listed too promisingly on amazon.fr (delivery within 1-3 weeks) - guess we'll see.
  12. Happy Birthday!
  13. Yes, more belated best wishes, Bill!
  14. 32€ from France to Switzerland There is a good offer on Marketplace, too, and Priceminister may also be cheaper, depending on where you order from! Giving it a shot, looks good - although with the Opera House, Stratford and On the Town discs, almost two thirds will already be in my collection, I think.
  15. Wasn't that first one ("Tenderly", I think?) from 1957 or 1958? It was definitely not later and with the trio of Herb Ellis. Edit: yes, seems to be from 1958 indeed, so says CDUniverse, at least. And there's also Vancouver 1958
  16. There *might* be a cheapo Euro version around by now (with the beige border around the cover). Those have the remasters (i.e. unedited versions, alternates and all) BUT a basic booklet without any liner notes, just production credits and tracklists etc.
  17. I didn't talk of that Mosaic but of the Verve CD which is still readily available... but in the end I won't be bothered too much by some duplications and will be happy to get an official release of the Interpretations albums! I know you weren't talking about the Mosaic, I just thought I'd mention it to provide as much info as I could, that's all. Sure, fine. To me, that "Plays" material never quite reaches the same heights as the Haig quartets and Raney sessions for Roost do.
  18. Would this include the CBC live releases? I've only heard "Tenderly" from the library a few years back, before I really got into OP. At that price it shouldn't be a shabby cheapo label...
  19. I didn't talk of that Mosaic but of the Verve CD which is still readily available... but in the end I won't be bothered too much by some duplications and will be happy to get an official release of the Interpretations albums!
  20. agree about "Zep Tepi" - wonderful disc!
  21. And it might Duplicate the material from "Stan Getz Plays", I assume? That's a Raney quintet date there (the CD bonus session with Jimmy Rowles is a quartet if memory serves me right). I've never heard the Interpretations material so far! The first of the West Coast albums/sessions was w/quintet, wasn't it? "Jazz West Coast", listed above by J.A.W. - so this might be duplicated, after all... but would it all fit onto just three discs? Or will they skip that as it's out as part of another fine set anyway? I'd hope they'll skip, but I'll want this new one anyway! Won't beat the Roost 3CD set, I guess, but I'm always in for a surprise of course!
  22. I'm with Chuck here... stood away from the Brookmeyer 2CD set for years, hoping someday the "real" thing would be available! Would be great to have a good reissue of these "Interpretations" albums, finally!
  23. It was a one-off in a local store... they just had some boxes they were selling for good prices, including that one! I put these boxes on the top of my book shelves... Mosaics, Fantasy longboxes etc... height isn't an issue up there.
  24. I like their packaging. Got the Oscar Peterson and Ella sets for a good price but haven't actually played them so far, just had a look and spun a few tracks. But I do agree on the price... stuff like their Motown and James Brown singles look great though. If I could afford that, I'd be all over them! And this Dinah W. set looks great! I've got the "Swingin' Miss D" VEE CD reissue and grew to like it quite a bit (it combines several Mercury sessions - probably partial sessions - with the one Keynote session).
