  1. Yeah, pre-ordered two of them... one will be an x-mas gift for my dad... Does anyone have a copy of that Carnegie Hall 1963 set that you merikins could get for free back some time ago? I just first heard of it... it was a free promo give-away!
  2. Very sad - he was such a soulful player! Thank you for all the music!

    Mark Turner

There was also this thread about his accident - which weirdly the search function doesn't seem to find:
  4. Happy Birthday, Muhal!
  5. The Hank Mobley - playing the three sessions with the Jazz Messengers rhythm section - mighty fine stuff!
  6. Those were just re-printings of the previous digipacks! I guess it was cheaper to do jewel cases rather than reprint the cardboard covers. @ the thread starter: we still need to hook up, I owe you some $$!
  7. Blue Mitchell good stuff! played all his Riversides first, and now the Mosaic set... not sure if I still like the Riversides better - sure, there are some great bands there, and Wynton Kelly is perfect, but Mitchell sounds so poised yet lyrical on the Blue Notes, so self-assured - a pure joy to hear!
  8. There's also Benny Bailey's Mirrors with a Clarke-Boland-related line-up: Benny Bailey: Trumpet & Flugelhorn Tony Coe: Tenor saxophone & Clarinet Sahib Shihab: Bariton saxophone & Flute Francy Boland: Piano Jean Warland: Bass Tony Inzalaco: Drums ..plus 12 strings section And also coming up: The Golden Eight - Encore (feat. Karl Drewo and Dusko, among others):
  9. That's some great music indeed! I've heard most of these once, I think, but never owned any of it.
  10. So you *did* order yours from amazon.fr? I thought maybe you got them from dusty's and that was why you got them that much earlier... weird! Amazon should be large enough to be able to absorb such orders and pre-orders in no time, one would think... no idea why mine took so long this time (they also arrived several days after the timeframe given in my order). Anyway, great series, great price... and now the Dixon coming on - me = happy camper!
  11. My suggestion was to add Corea's "other" trio album from the time, "Song of Singing" (other than the widely known "Now He Sings, Now He Sobs", that is).
  12. I got mine from there, yes... they arrived Monday 6/Tuesday 7 of September, all of them. Took way longer than I'm used to. I profit, of course, from free shipping (and deduction of the huge French VAT, too). The Dixon is supposed to be out on the date you mention (or thenarounds), but the others have been out for a while now... Played the whole Motian and Bowie sets so far - the Motian needs time, all except for "Misterioso" is new to me. This is a kind of music that I need more time to digest. The Bowie/Leaders albums are great fun, though, right away!
  13. I'm still hoping for a Mosaic Select! I suggested that to them some years ago and in a (fairly) recent reply to another mail I sent, MC mentioned that they still have a Circle/Corea Solid State/whatever thing on their to do list! Would be great!
  14. will send you a PM will send you a PM
  15. Very sad news.
  16. Thanks, looks very interesting! The date issue looks like an excel-thing, where you can just drag down such informations (but then eventually it will count +1 on each line...). It says 1967 on the cover, too! But what's more interesting: on the cover it says "Tubby Hayes Archive - Volume 1", so there's most likely more to come!
  17. Sorry to read this!
  18. Sorry, can't give a specific recommendation, but pretty much anything with Doug Watkins is great! One of my very favorite bass players, and possibly the best hardbop bassist to my ears. Great sound, perfect time... I prefer him over Paul Chambers (whom I like a lot, too, of course). Too bad he died so early. Mingus picked him for the album where he played piano (and sang the blues) - quite an honour! "Introducing Lee Morgan" (Savoy) might do - I'm not sure about solos, but I do vividly remember Watkins being terrific on it!
  19. There ought to be laws against gentrification! Happens to my neighbourhood as I type this... one house after another is torn down, all the land- and house-owners are in is a lot of $$$ and they get it... but everything just dies... instead you get new SUVs, 3000-5000$ a month flats and crap like that... don't we love it?
  20. GREAT news about the Dixon! But my sets from France still haven't made it
  21. Gee, you got them and I'm still waiting?! Also ordered from amazon.fr? I guess you've got the freedom fries bonus... (while I got the IRS malus, or some such...)
  22. Thanks, will let you know in time... not sure yet if it matters - I'm merely putting together a compilation of many funny short things, jazz and beyond...
  23. So they need ten pieces + Wynetone to imitate the Hot Fives?
