  1. from the Sonny Stitt Mosaic booklet's notes on the final Roost album, "Sax Expressions": Now, can anyone explain what these deals with publishing companies meant, how this worked? Who got the money? The publishing company? And then passed on part/all (?) of it to the composer?

    Very sad news!
  3. maybe he was trying to sound like Hank Mobley and that's what happens when you do so...
  4. Thanks a lot for chiming in Laurie! Great to hear a CD release is planned. Can't help with the live material from the other nights, alas.
  5. Guess I'd be *very* happy with this, but then the price... also a CD version would be preferred.
  6. Why not record and release something new on Nessa? I'm sure Chuck would be very happy to do just that if you sent him a few thousand $$$...
  7. Dig the last chorus of his solo! A whole new tune, composed right there as he plays it! Dexter's the man!
  8. very sad news!
  9. yes, and it's even inflatable
  10. Thanks for the laughs, everyone!
  11. In the past for LPs I've always ordered direct 'from the horse's mouth' in Italy via the Rearward/Schema website and stuff has arrived fine. Must pick up this 'Encore' - at first I thought it was just a reissue of the Blue Note 'Golden Eight' but I see it is new material. So you're one of the few that would not be exited about a reissue of the original "Golden Eight"?
  12. Thanks Michael, will grab the files, too!
  13. grooves-inc.com has them for pretty good prices (compared to what these Rearward's usually go for) - happy to replace my crappy "review copies" of these - just ordered all three of them!
  14. Not that it matters too much to me, but this thread might as well be merged into this earlier one:
  15. I guess about 90% is CDs, rest is divided between LPs, MP3 while commuting, and finally MP3 or FLAC of ROIOs on the computer.
  16. Late again - all the best, Allan!
  17. Got mine today - just two days later than Lon, that's an improval compared to the last batch of these boxes! Into the third album now
  18. And Lon - of course! - got his copy earlier than me again
  19. Wow, thanks so much for sharing these, Guy! Great pictures, you truly had the eye!

    Bresh goes deaf?
  21. Dexter Gordon Select - first spin ever (got it in that catastrophic autumn when all those goodies vanished within a few hours).
  22. You mean they don't tailor make each box in accordance with the amount of CDS that's in it......I'm ordering the George Russell set with 9 CDS so it might not be a problem.....they must be making 9 cd boxes for everything. Yes and no... the Threadgill with 7 discs won't close that well, but it seems they learned and made the Russell for 9 discs a bit fatter. The Bowie with 3 discs was standard size (same as the other sets with 5 or 6 or 7 discs).
  23. Ah well, my Lester Bowie didn't even make the few kilometres from France to here undamaged. But then wiht just three discs in there, the box is half emplty and damaged much easier than all the others.
  24. Someone better RUN and grab the J.J. Johnson box at this great price! It's a magnificent set, in my humble opinion!

    LOCKJAW

Got Mildred Anderson's "Person to Person" upon MG's repeaded recommendations (which I found last week, doing a search here and elsewhere). Blasting out of my speakers right now... very good! Indeed some great playing by Lockjaw! And Anderson sounds good, too!
