  1. I had an iPod shortly after they came out, up until I got an iPhone. I prefer one device to two, so while the phone did not have the same capacity, there were not too many compromises. Today, with a 128GB iPhone, plus great screen resolution on the artwork, it is hard to imagine why I would need a classic. Now if you can give me 2TB flash storage, lossless playback and the high resolution screen, I might be interested.
  2. He had a bunch of good answers to a variety of questions - but this was not one of them.
  3. Yes I received my copy as well. Very nice addition to the package.
  4. Exceptional, perhaps a little more forward-looking than some of their other titles.
  5. I really like their album cover photos.
  6. Saw that ... zeroed in on "current reissues" ... if they were previously unreleased, you would think they would crow about it ... Edit: Here are the Monk tracks: http://www.hmv.co.jp/artist_Thelonious-Monk_000000000001030/item_Round-Midnight-Complete-Blue-Note-Singles-1947-1952_6009917 And the five-CD set: http://music.aladin.co.kr/shop/wproduct.aspx?ISBN=0753550938

  8. Wow ... that really stinks. RIP
  9. You actually play your lps???
  10. FWIW, I increasingly look to discogs.com for used vinyl - particularly from the 1970s forward. You generally cannot see a picture of the cover, but prices are usually cheaper. Perhaps more of a European vs US reach, but I've good luck with US sellers.
  11. I read the article. They basically identified the labels that are transparent in identifying their sources and the ones that are not: Transparent: "We do get it from certain labels, like Mobile Fidelity, ORG, ORG Music, Analogue Productions, Music Matters, IMPEX, Mosaic, Rhino, Pure Pleasure, Speakers Corner, Reference Recordings, more recently Sony/Legacy and probably a few others I can't recall off the top of my head." Less transparent: "These include Doxy (not Sonny Rollins' label—apparently there's another one using the same name), ZYX from Germany, Vinyl Lovers, Simply Vinyl and Abraxas." If you are paying say $10.99 and the re-issue label is not identified, sure, you may be rolling the dice. But the transparent ones usually go to great lengths to explain how they do things. I really don't think this is a big problem among reasonably informed buyers. Certainly the vast majority of "overpriced" jazz reissues come from these very labels.
  12. Amazon doesn't have any smaller covers (the ones they show on the product page aren't conventional jpg's, and won't appear here), and Amazon is where I see this new release info. Sorry it's causing problems for you. I actually like 'em ... vivid colors, you can see the background details ... almost vinyl-ish
  13. From this page and the next, you can piece together the release: http://www.hmv.co.jp/en/search/advanced_1/category_1%2C2%2C3%2C4%2C5%2C7%2C9%2C10%2C23%2C24/formattype_1/keyword_Uccq5/pagesize_1/target_SEARCH/
  14. That is too young. I have a bunch of his CDs when he was putting them out consistently 10-15 years ago. Really enjoy his playing.
  15. to all of that and to Jeff for posting the 78 - very cool!
  16. ordered this a few days ago - liked the samples on the Posi-Tone web site
  17. It is kind of hard to describe the experience of seeing him live. No doubt I am a fan of both the Beatles and his solo stuff. But as great as the music was, there was something culturally going on that is wholly unique. Not an intellectual thing per se "oh, he was the soundtrack to our lives, blah, blah, blah", more of a shared/communal experience with the rest of the audience. Seeing/feeling the entire crowd sing along (half of them in tears), regardless of age was just magical for lack of a better word. Sounds sappy, like I am some ancient boomer pining for days gone by , but it was real. Or to quote my previously disinterested wife about three songs in "OMG, it's Paul F-ing McCartney!!!"
  18. I saw him at Sprint Center a few years ago and had a similar reaction. Amazing - not a cynical eye left in the house
  19. Cuscuna says as much in the brief notes that accompany the CDs. Neither guilty pleasures nor unheralded gems, that is for sure.
  20. Just picked up that one myself, did not realize it was "running low". Really nice music.
  21. I've owned a Mac since 1984 and I still don't get (or consequently use) iPhoto ... PS - wholehearted recommendation for the Air of course!
  22. Same here
