  1. I like that Billy Mitchell, with Thad Jones ...
  2. That is a fabulous album by the way.
  3. Having been fiddling around with all this for the last 5-6 years, it seems that Bluetooth, not Airplay, will be the dominant mode to stream music from a mobile device to powered speakers. It seems there are many more devices (speakers) that are designed to received audio input via Bluetooth (particularly using the aptX compression technology). I noticed that Audio Engine has introduced a higher end speaker (the HD6) that permits streaming directly via Bluetooth.
  4. From the Resonance website, in the description of the "One Night In Indy" CD: Since releasing Echoes of Indiana Ave, Resonance has located additional of unreleased 1950s archival Montgomery recordings and plans to release more music in late 2016/2017. So maybe it is being parsed out a little differently than originally planned ...
  5. My first experience with Lee Morgan was The Cooker, well over 30 years ago. For a long time *that* was Lee for me, that firestorm on the trumpet. To me, the later 60s stuff sounded "watered done". The tables have long since turned. I still enjoy The Cooker, but really cherish Charisma, Caramba, Sixth Sense and most of the "LT" material. Man, that is the kind of stuff I would love to kick back to and groove in a club.
  6. Thanks - I appreciate it. Watched my Kansas Jayhawks win their season opener and received the Mosaic Bee Hive box from the family. A great day!
  7. I also use the Apple Airport Express in several rooms - have done it this way for several years. I either plug into powered speakers (also the A2s), a DAC or an integrated amp. Works like a charm.
  8. YES - "what is this Pices record". I remember traveling to NYC from KC back in the day, with a musician buddy of mine urging me to track it down. Tower in the Village had it all back in the day, but they did not have Pices!!!
  9. Also where I'm coming down on those two sets. Looking at the tracklist a bit more carefully, it seems like I would be interested in a few things, but how much would I listen? IDK I agree. It was nice to have the live set, cleaned up. But really. When I want to listen to ALS, I want to listen to ALS, as originally released. Life is too short ...

Some interesting things here too: https://soundcloud.com/woodyshaw
  11. Holy cow, me too!
  12. How does this happen at 58? I used to LOVE watching those late 70s Sixers games ... man he was fun to watch.
  13. I didn't but as that's the only one I've bought so far, that's really too bad! Lousy job! How do you otherwise like the music? Have the lp, buried away somewhere.
  14. Cool, so these are the guys who are doing the Xanadu re-issues ...
  15. LOL, yes and correct, thanks
  16. My take on the new CD is that he is slightly lower in the mix than say Maupin or Mabern, but not terribly so. All-in-all sound quality is quite acceptable to me. I have the FS CD - have not gone back to compare.
  17. At one point I had the Fresh Sound set, but never really listened to it. I bought the new one recently and have been enjoying it quite a bit. Sound quality is "B+" or better. It does not distract - really only makes you wish you could hear Lee a tad more clearly, because his playing is strong. Don't know if the sound is better or worse than the Fresh Sound set, but certainly no real complaints. Mabern and Maupin maybe fare slightly better than Lee, FWIW. And you can hear Jymie Merritt pretty decently. Mentioned above, but the crowd was enthusiastic and is a fun part of album. At one point someone yells out "Gary's Notebook" a few times, which unfortunately goes ignored. This set does include tunes not included in the BN set - the Harold mabern tune, "Rakin' And Scrapin'" (which absolutely kills), "Willow Weep For Me" and "Ceora" (two versions). Good stuff and a great companion to the BN sides.
  18. that is really, really nice ...
  19. Always loved that one!
  20. I have the Jones LP, it's a nice one, worth picking up if you are turntably-inclined.
  21. Happy Birthday, Chuck!
  22. Went to a blues show in KC tonight - Levee Town at BB's Lawnside BBQ. The owner spoke at length about BB and his appearances in KC over the years. The band (who is phenomenal) played a bunch of his songs. It was a blast. RIP.
  23. I find it rather humorous they feel the need to add the qualifier "probably" ...
  24. Congratulations Chuck! I am in as well.
  25. my thoughts exactly when I saw this for sale
