  1. I remember Columbia released some Boris Rose Charlie Parker material way back when (One Night at Birdland). Has any other Rose material seen major label release?
  2. I enjoyed the past season even though my Red Sox couldn't quite get there.I am shocked, shocked I say, that the SF Giants took the series. Congrats to them, pitching rules. And along that line, what do you Ranger fans hear about how seriously they will work to keep Cliff Lee (and keep him out of NY)?
  3. He did a Miles Davis trib disc in 1992 called One For Dewey which I have but haven't listened to in quite awhile. The fact that I didn't get rid of it tells me I heard some merit in it last time I played it (available from 15 Amazon sellers for the no respeect price of .99 or less, both used and new). He also participated in some Frank Zappa sessions in the 1970's
  4. Is Goldwave free? I paid for my copy, serves as a frontend for the LAME encoder.
  5. I agree with Sidewinder, the Mingus piece Passions of a Man is great Halloween music, also the 1st minute or so of George Russell's recording of Round Midnight with Eric Dolphy. I had those two things on a loop a few years ago to great effect.
  6. Why would selling unopened discs be a problem here or anywhere?
  7. PM sent on: 57. A Handful Of Stars - Eddie Higgins - Scott Hamilton - Ken Peplowski (Venus) $7 144. Paradise Space Shuttle - George Adams Quintet (Timeless) $8 Thanks, Tom
  8. Well, I could never get myself to pull the trigger on either of the Emanon releases. I remember reading that one was in a metal container. How is the sound on Blowin Out the Cobwebs?
  9. IIRC the price on the Emanon cd's was obscene. I think Cadence had them for $90, for a two cd set. Matter of fact, they still have Blowin Out the Cobwebs, and its still $90.
  10. One of my friends had the 6 Parker Spotlight records documenting his Dial output when I was just getting into jazz. We listened to them a lot. As I recall, a nice production with decent notes. I bought the Warner Bros box set of same when it came out and I still have it. I have to say I remember liking the notes on the Spotlight set better.
  11. You might check out Amos Hoffman, Evolution, featuring oud. Also, Eric Freidlander's Broken Arm Trio featuring cello, bass and drums. Lastly, two dates by bassist Buell Neidlinger featuring his Buellgrass band, Big Day at Ojai and Swing Grass. As far as I can tell, Neidlinger has reissued some of Big Day at Ojai as a cd called Across the Tracks.
  12. At Her Majesty's Pleasure was the first CBBB lp I ever heard/owned. Picked it up on the Black Lion label while in college in the '70's. Definitely deserving of reissue.
  13. I don't own one but I have seen a unit comprised of two lucite discs with gaskets on the edges and holes in the middle that can be fixed to a record to protect record labels while cleaning. Evidently made by a guy right here in RI.
  14. Like Dan I am using my turntable mostly when digitizing an lp. Otherwise, since Father's Day I have been using an mp3 player with cassette adapter in my car which is where I do most of my listening.
  15. Oh my God, its the Happy Birthday, Tom memorial thread! Thanks one and all. Hey Sangrey, after so much anticipation I finally got a chance to hear some Iapetus yesterday, and it hit me. And I had my first Lambic Framboise last night, yummy! Oh, and AARP is sending me literature too. Oh happy day.
  16. Hey Chris, I enjoyed the 1st Jordan song, looking forward to the next.
  17. I got a copy of this when it was first issued. Some of the BeeHive lps had inserts with glossy photos which was neat and unexpected. I really wish I had gotten a BeeHive t-shirt way back when, even though there is no chance it would still fit.
  18. Thanks for this post. I think Klein is great, one of the guys I reach for on a regular basis. Glad to see he has a new disc which I will need to check out.
  19. Hi Claude, yes I saw the same info at CliffordJordan.com. So do I understand that this may never have been issued, let alone reissued?
  20. Has this date on Survival Records ever been reissued? Anyone here ever hear it?
  21. Ken, my storage is more like yours (only much smaller). The thing that really caught my eye is that the shelves fold into a closet.
  22. Check the picture here: http://www.colgatealumni.org/s/801/scene_inside_2col.aspx?sid=801&gid=1&pgid=2787 I am so jealous. The printed version had a brief article about longtime Colgate prof Dr. Blackmore who left his lp collection to the University. 17,000 pieces. I had a ball visiting his house so many years ago.
  23. I was sad to see this. Been listening to a couple Little Feat '70's broadcasts in tribute today. Vanilla grits, yeah.
